Dear handball friends, It is with great pleasure to welcome you to the resumption of the EHF European League Men group phase for 2021/22. We can look forward to the second half of this season with increased optimism and undoubtedly more curious eyes on the competition following January’s Men’s EHF EURO 2022. The championship in Hungary and Slovakia showcased just how fine the playing talent in the European League is, particularly when you look at the All-star Team. Half of the 10 all-stars play their club handball for European League teams, including a phenomenal three from Danish club GOG, the current leader of group B can especially count on defensive specialists – Icelandic goalkeeper Viktor Hallgrimsson and best defender, Swede Oscar Bergendahl. Their third is Danish right back Mathias Gidsel, who was the MVP of the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The GOG trio were joined by players from last season’s finalists, Berlin left wing Milos Vujovic (Berlin) and top scorer Omar Ingi Magnusson, the Magdeburg right back. As we look forward to the business end of the season, the challenges posed by Covid-19 were brought into sharp focus at the event in Hungary and Slovakia. Which is why we should celebrate the fact that we are on course to complete the group phase on time, despite the challenge that we will always face different environments in different countries across Europe and we wish to express our gratitude to all clubs for the excellent cooperation to date. The 24 competing teams from sixteen nations have plenty to play for in the final four rounds of the group phase with four teams from each of the four groups set to progress to the knockout rounds. As ever we, together with clubs and our partners, are ensuring that the EHF European League Men continues to bring drama, excitement and passion until the EHF FINALS has been played on 28/29 May 2022.
