Foreword EHF President Dear handball friends, It is with great pleasure to welcome you to the EHF European League Men group phase for the season 2021/22. Despite all the difficulties related to the pandemic last season the vast majority of the games were decided on court which was a tremendous success and I wish to express my gratitude to all clubs for the excellent cooperation. The competition culminated at the excellent EHF Finals weekend in Mannheim and already the first season has proved that the decision to reform our club competitions system in the summer of 2020 was a step in the right direction. It is also pleasing us that not only all 120 group phase matches will be streamed live on EHFTV for our fanbase at the TV screens but also more and more fans will be able to return to the arenas and create a real handball atmosphere how we have always known it. What I am looking forward to most over the next 10 rounds of matches is witnessing a real eclectic mix of teams going head-to-head over the coming months as they fight for their places in the all-important knockout stages. Sixteen nations across the EHF are represented among the 24 competing teams, which gives this season’s competition a hugely diverse combination of styles, further proof of what makes this competition so captivating. What lies in wait for handball fans is a mouth-watering series of matches featuring some of the biggest names in our sport with no easy games for any team. Just one look at some of the clubs in the group phase is enough to whet the appetite. With the likes HBC Nantes and Füchse Berlin joining former EHF Champions League winners Bidasoa Irun and SC Magdeburg, who are defending their title from the premiere season of the EHF European League Men, the race to reach the elimination phase is going to be a battle of epic proportions. It goes without saying that I wish everyone associated with every team all the very best of luck over the forthcoming group phase matches. I would also like to thank them all for their support, enthusiasm and understanding in what has been a hugely challenging time for our sport. The togetherness shown by everyone in the handball community, however, has given us all real strength and I hope that by the time we are able to celebrate the final weekend of this competition in May it will be in circumstances in which we can enjoy it together and safely.
