Luxury, Leisure, and Legendary Golf in Cabo A Getaway at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and Quivira Golf Club

When it comes to unforgettable golf vacations, Cabo San Lucas has emerged as a world-class destination—where turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs, and luxury living collide. At the heart of this Baja Peninsula paradise lies Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort, an adults-only, all-inclusive haven of tranquility. For golf lovers, the adjacent Quivira Golf Club, designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, offers not only breathtaking oceanfront holes but also an unmatched experience highlighted by luxurious comfort stations along the course. Together, they make for a dream escape where recreation, relaxation, and indulgence meet at the edge of the Earth— where the Sea of Cortez meets the mighty Pacific Ocean.

Where Tranquility Meets Tasteful Indulgence

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is an oasis for those seeking serenity without sacrificing sophistication. Located on a pristine private beach just a few minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas, the resort offers a seamless blend of high-end amenities, elegant design, and mindful service. The all-inclusive offerings include gourmet dining at on-site restaurants, top-shelf cocktails at beachside bars, and luxurious suites that look out over the crashing waves of the Pacific.

But what truly sets Pacifica apart is the attention to wellness and recreation. The Armonia Spa is consistently rated among the top spas in Mexico, offering a variety of massages, facials, and full-body treatments

using native ingredients. For those who prefer movement, daily on-site recreation classes such as beachfront yoga, guided meditation, aqua aerobics, and Pilates are available. The fitness center is modern and fully equipped, while two sparkling pools offer the perfect setting for relaxation postworkout.

The Golf Experience: Quivira Golf Club

Just steps from the resort lies a golfer’s paradise—Quivira Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design. Regularly ranked among the top resort courses in the world, Quivira delivers an unforgettable round not just because of its dramatic oceanfront setting, but because of its thoughtful and luxurious touches

throughout the 18 holes.

The course itself weaves through cliffs, dunes, and desert landscapes with more than seven holes along the ocean, offering panoramic views of crashing surf, rocky outcrops, and migrating whales during winter months. It’s a strategic and exciting layout, challenging players with elevation changes, forced carries, and Nicklaus’ signature risk-reward designs.

But the true magic of Quivira lies in its comfort stations—and they are legendary. More than just simple snack shacks, these comfort stations are culinary experiences where players are treated to made-to-order tacos, sliders, margaritas, local beer, and even premium tequila tastings. The most iconic station sits at the 5th tee, perched on a cliff with jaw-dropping views of the Pacific. These generous pit stops add a festive and relaxed vibe to the round, encouraging players to take their time, soak in the views, and truly enjoy the moment.

Beyond the Greens:

Endless Recreation

While golf is a highlight, there’s no shortage of things to do beyond the course. Pueblo Bonito Pacifica offers tennis courts, pickleball, beach volleyball, and walking trails throughout the property. Guests also have access to the broader Quivira Los Cabos community, including sister resorts with additional dining, spa, and recreational options via a complimentary shuttle.

For those who want to explore beyond the resort, the nearby Cabo San Lucas marina is home to Cabo Adventure Tours, one of the most trusted and exciting tour operators in the region. Whether it’s swimming with dolphins, snorkeling in the

World’s Most Romantic All-Inclusive Resort

TRAVEL + LEISURE

Sea of Cortez, deep-sea fishing, off-road UTV excursions, or sunset cruises, Cabo Adventures offers meticulously organized and eco-conscious experiences that appeal to thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.

One of the most popular outings is a catamaran cruise to Land’s End, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean at the iconic Arch of Cabo San Lucas. Q Darrell, take us back to the beginning - how did you get Loggerhead Golf started, and what inspired you to open a golf performance and club customization center in Wilmington?

Darrell: Loggerhead Golf really grew organically from my years as a PGA Professional, where I gained extensive experience in both teaching and club fitting. When the existing golf store, a local fixture for 16 years, became available, I saw a significant opportunity to establish a truly custom club fitting, building, and teaching experience right here in Wilmington. While there might be others in the area who touch on these services, my primary goal was to bring that high-level PGA experience, similar to what you’d expect at a private club, and deliver both service and product that consistently exceeds customer expectations. Our team is built on trust, exceptional customer service, quality, and true craftsmanship. We’re not just golf professionals; we’re all passionate golf enthusiasts. We approach our business by always considering what we would want as customers ourselves and then strive to deliver exactly that.

Q How long have you been in the golf industry and what was your journey like leading up to opening your own business?

Darrell: I’m 39 years old, and my journey as a PGA professional spans a rewarding 18 years. Beyond playing competitively as a college athlete, I’ve been fortunate to build

Fitting a Vision– Darrell Posey

The Art of Custom and the Growth of Loggerhead Golf From In Store to Online

a career around my passion for the game. In many professions, the focus is always on that next promotion. For me, it wasn’t just about moving up; it was about learning every facet of the golf business. I’ve gained hands-on experience in course maintenance, food and beverage/banquets, tournament operations, and served as an assistant professional, head professional, general manager, and director of instruction. I also had a valuable opportunity to work for TaylorMade Golf as a club fitting specialist. Each of these roles has provided me with a diverse and valuable skill set as a PGA Professional. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best golf professionals in the nation and learning from some of the most respected teachers in the world.

Q Was there a particular moment or experience that made you realize there was a demand for a specialized, local golf performance center in your community?

Darrell: During my time at a prominent private club in town, I noticed that while there were several golf professionals on staff, none were particularly focused on or skilled in custom club fitting. When I learned that the local golf store was for sale, it struck me as the perfect opportunity to concentrate on what I do best: teaching and club fitting. I realized that no one in the area was truly leveraging the advanced technology available in the industry. I saw a significant potential and a real need to not only offer my expertise but to support it with data obtained from the same equipment used on the PGA Tour.

Q Loggerhead Golf offers club fitting, performance analysis, and customization - what other technology do you have helping golfers improve their game and golf equipment online?

Darrell: Currently, our fittings primarily utilize FullSwing Simulators. However, what truly sets us apart are our two dedicated performance bays. We house the only SAM Putt Lab Studio in the area, allowing us to

meticulously fine-tune putting strokes and provide precise putter fittings. Our state-ofthe-art teaching bay features Swing Catalyst, complete with force and pressure plates and a four-camera motion capture system. This setup not only allows us to video a student’s swing but also to send them a detailed lesson recap with voice-over as a valuable followup. Finally, our custom shop is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment from Mitchell Golf, GolfWorks, and other leading brands. We have multiple curing cells, enabling us to handle anything from fixing a broken shaft to building a completely custom club, often ready in under an hour.

Q What sets Loggerhead Golf apart from the bigger, national chains with seeing a surge in boutique, specialized performance centers?

Darrell: The answer is simple: our staff! We are deeply invested in what we do and in the quality of the products and services we provide. We are all golfers! We share a genuine love for the sport and take immense pride in our work and our brand. For us, it’s far more than just selling a custom golf club. Our strong brand and standing in the community have also afforded us wonderful opportunities to give back to the local First Tee Chapter and to establish the very first indoor PGA HOPE program in the nation. PGA HOPE is a program dedicated to teaching golf to veterans free of charge, led by PGA professionals. Lastly, I believe our customers connect with the people behind the product and have come to trust Darrelll, Kyle, Nicky, Justice, Tyler, Steve, Breck, Myles, and Lillian. Our entire team is genuinely focused on the customer and the quality of our work, not just on meeting corporate sales targets.

Q How has Loggerhead Golf carved out its own niche and continued to grow with online retailers and large franchises?

Darrell: We’re all self-proclaimed golf nerds who appreciate cool, customized gear. Our aim was to deliver products that not only look fantastic but also perform exceptionally well. We wanted to elevate golf customization by truly individualizing clubs to each client’s specific preferences. Through our website, customers can build a completely custom golf club, selecting from a variety of stylish colored ferrules, shafts, grips, and heads, and actually see their creation come to life on the screen as they build it. We use real images of the actual products to provide the most accurate representation of how the finished clubs will look.

Q Your brand has built a loyal following locally– what other markets has Loggerhead Golf expanding into and taking it to a national level?

Darrell: We’ve launched a podcast featuring product reviews, educational content, golf news, teaching tips, and club fitting advice. This platform has significantly increased our exposure and cultivated a following that appreciates and trusts our expertise. It’s allowed us to give people a real sense of who we are. We’re also proud to have established a trusted partnership with the University of North Carolina Wilmington (Go Seahawks!), where we handle all the fitting, building, and repair needs for their Division 1 athletes’ equipment. This has led to a growing number of collegiate and professional players seeking out our team for fittings and custom builds. We genuinely enjoy working with our Seahawks players, and our customers love seeing them training in our store!

Q What’s the most rewarding part of running Loggerhead Golf and what’s one of the biggest challenges you have faced along the way?

Darrell: The most rewarding aspect is undoubtedly seeing the appreciation people have for the products we deliver and witnessing them wear our brand with pride. It’s fantastic to be out in the community and see someone wearing a Loggerhead hat or shirt, or to overhear people talking positively about their experiences at Loggerhead without knowing I’m the owner.

One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced includes opening our business during the COVID-19 pandemic, constantly staying ahead of the rapid advancements in technology, managing product availability and tariffs, and being able to afford a truly world-class staff. Having the best in the business comes at a cost!

Q Who’s been the most memorable client or project you’ve worked with so far, and why did it stand out?

Darrell: As a teacher, there’s no greater feeling than when one of my high school students comes to me and announces, “Coach, I received an offer to play at ____________!” I also find immense satisfaction in leading our PGA HOPE class, seeing our veterans connect with the game, and continuing to hear their success stories both on and off the course as a result of their involvement.

On the build side, we consistently have projects each week that turn out beautifully, and the feedback we receive from players who are thrilled with their new clubs and playing some of their best golf is always incredibly rewarding.

Q How many different brands and shafts do you currently work with, and are there any new partnerships, or expansions in the works that golfers should be excited about even with website, podcast and online club experience?

Darrell: Currently, we offer every major club brand except PXG. We greatly value our partnerships with the OEM companies. Additionally, our selection of niche brands like Miura truly enhances our offerings. We have established relationships or access to almost every major shaft and grip manufacturer. It would be difficult to find something we don’t either carry or have access to.

Given the increasing demand for our custom builds and personalization services, we are currently expanding our custom shop. This expansion will allow us to increase our build capacity while maintaining the same high level of quality that our customers have come to expect from Loggerhead Golf Co. TSG

Hanse, Boring Bring Baltusrol Upper Back to Greatness

It’s no secret.

In the category of the top 36-hole golf facilities in the world, Baltusrol isn’t just in the upper echelon. It sets the bar. Unequivocally.

That was the goal of founder Louis Keller when he created the Springfield, N.J. club in 1895: to build the absolute best. He was surely on track to do just that as Baltusrol hosted an astounding five national championships in its first 20 years of existence, including the 1915 U.S. Open won by Jerome Travers. But golf was booming and Baltusrol needed to expand to accommodate more demand.

Enter A.W. Tillinghast, a Philadelphian who would go on to have involvement in nearly 300 golf courses, but who, at the time, had yet to establish himself as one of the game’s great architects.

By 1918 when Tillinghast was brought on board, he had crafted courses at the Shawnee Country Club in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, Bedford Springs in the Alleghenies in the western part of that same state, and Somerset Hills in New Jersey. He had done some fine work and was ready to put everything he had learned into a project that was grand in scale and expectations.

After scratching his initial plan to incorporate George Hunter’s original ninehole “Old Course” into his 36-hole output,

Tilly mapped out a “Lower Course” on what was once farmland owned by Baltus Roll and an “Upper Course” that played over a portion of the farmland, but also climbed a forested ridge known as “Baltusrol Mountain”.

The design of the “Dual Courses”, as they were dubbed, together comprised a project of a scale yet to be conceived in this country, not just because he was tasked to build 36 holes, but two championship-caliber courses that would offer unique options to Baltusrol’s growing membership.

Tillinghast delivered his two-course masterpiece to the membership in 1922 and the accolades for both him and his courses followed.

He was soon-after appointed the “Dean of American Born Golf Course Architects” by Golf Illustrated and Baltusrol quickly became a regular host of championship golf.

In 1926, after losing to the great Bobby Jones, who later became a Baltusrol member, in both the finals of the 1924 U.S. Amateur at Merion and the semifinals of the 1925 U.S. Amateur at Oakmont, George Von Helm finally exacted revenge,

besting Jones on Baltusrol’s Lower Course, 2 and 1, en route to his only major championship victory.

Ten years later, it was the Upper Course’s turn to take center stage. Tony Manero took down the greats of the game: Hagen, Nelson, Hogan and Sarazen, who was paired with Manero in the final round and helped calm Manero’s nerves down the stretch. Controversy ensued as some deemed Sarazen’s guidance as a violation of a rule preventing players from providing advice to fellow competitors during play. The USGA eventually dismissed the notion and Manero was awarded his lone major title.

Over the next 60 years, Baltusrol continued to deliver dramatic finishes and fitting champions. Mickey Wright claimed the U.S. Women’s Open in 1961, Jack Nicklaus won a pair of Opens in ‘67 and ‘80, the former featuring the Golden Bear’s blistering final-round 65 that included his famous 1-iron into the 18th green, which helped him two-putt for par and set a new U.S. Open tournament scoring mark of 275. Nicklaus eclipsed that record in ‘80 by three shots after birdieing the final two holes.

The 1985 U.S. Women’s Open on the Upper Course, won by Kathy Baker, gave the club an incredible distinction that still stands today. The famous Dual Courses

made Baltusrol the only club to have hosted both men’s and women’s U.S. Opens on multiple courses. In 1993, Lee Janzen posted four scores in the 60s to claim the first of his two U.S. Opens in a six-year span.

Similar to his father, Robert Trent Jones, who made modifications to the Lower Course leading up to the 1954 U.S. Open at Baltusrol, Rees Jones began work on a master plan to allow the Lower Course to accommodate the modern game: adding new tees and bunkers and bringing some of Baltusrol’s natural features into play.

Rees Jones did even more following Phil Mickelson’s PGA Championship victory in 2005, adding fairway bunkers, shifting others farther from the tee, expanding greens, adding collection areas, and building more championship tees.

Then, in 2017, following another PGA Championship (won by Jimmy Walker), 100 years after Louis Keller hired Tillinghast to make his mark with two exceptional courses that would pave the way for a century of championship golf on a national level, the club made another big move by bringing in Gil Hanse.

From Merion to Oakmont to Winged Foot to Los Angeles Country Club to The Olympic Club, Hanse has restored the stalwarts of championship golf in the United States to greatness.

Following the reopening of Baltusrol’s Upper Course back in May and the Lower Course in 2021, Baltusrol can be emphatically added to that list.

“When we hired Gil, he was tasked with a tough balancing act,” said Baltusrol President Doug Rotatori. “First, to restore Tillinghast’s vision from 100

years ago while taking into account the advancements in equipment technology in the modern game. Second, ensuring that both courses, when restored, would provide a fun, challenging test for members and guests of all skill levels. And lastly, ensuring that both courses could host championship golf at the highest level. The Upper Course restoration aligns with the Lower Course infrastructure, utilizing the highest levels of agronomic technology and equipment.”

Hanse, Kevin Murphy, Ben Hillard, Jim Wagner and Baltusrol Director of Golf Greg Boring surely succeeded. They expanded green surfaces by a remarkable 25 percent, rebuilt all tee boxes, green approaches, and bunkers and have added new tees intended to make the course more enjoyable for players of all ability levels.

“My partner in this project, in every single way, was Greg Boring,” said Hanse at a celebration of the reopening of the Upper Course in June. “Greg, as you know, came here about a year before the Lower was going to get torn up. So, he inherited this massive project that was on

the horizon. And I still think I see a little twitch every time he sees exposed dirt. But his ability and his team’s ability to present the golf course, the way we’re going to see it today, and his understanding of what is architecturally important from a playability and presentation standpoint is unmatched. We get to work with a lot of great golf course superintendents. He is right up at the top of that list. So, Greg, thank you for all you’ve done here. You’ve been amazing.”

With Baltusrol’s 20th major championship on the horizon in 2029, Hanse’s work will shine in the spotlight once again.

“Without a doubt, this championship pedigree places us in the rarefied air of the history of the game of golf in the United States,” said Rotatori. “It’s fair to say that hosting championship golf at Baltusrol is and will always be part of our DNA.” TSG

Nemacolin Honored Among Usa Today’s ‘10Best Golf Destinations’

Pennsylvania’s mountain golf paradise earns high praise from golfers

Nemacolin, Pennsylvania’s premier luxury golf resort destination, has been recognized by USA TODAY as No. 8 among the 10BEST Golf Destinations in the U.S. for an exceptional golf getaway.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the top golf destinations in the United States by USA TODAY,” said Nemacolin’s Director of Golf Operations Chris Anderson. “So many consider Nemacolin, with our two world-class Pete Dye championship golf courses, and The Nemacolin Golf Academy, to be a bit of a ‘hidden gem,’ but a growing number of discerning golf travelers are discovering the magic of a golf vacation in the majestic Laurel Highlands. The golf experience here is unforgettable and when you pair that with the adventurous and indulgent array of off-course activities and amenities, there’s truly nothing that compares to a Nemacolin getaway.”

The USA TODAY 10BEST Golf Destinations and Resorts were carefully curated by a panel of subject matter experts and USA TODAY 10 Best editors before being voted on by the public.

According to USA TODAY: “Golfers are always ready, if not eager, to check their bags and hop aboard a plane for a round in a beautiful place. And the U.S. is filled with course-rich destinations that beckon golfers to enjoy the sport while surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, such as these 20 spots that have been nominated by an expert panel as the best golf destinations in the country. Beyond the greens, these locales are brimming with luxurious accommodations, gourmet dining spots, and other outdoor recreation opportunities, making them well-rounded getaway spots.”

GOLF ON A HIGHER SCALE

Walking the fairways of Mystic Rock, the realization that guests are playing a special golf course is inescapable. The hole designs are imaginative. They ask the golfer to use creativity, brawn sometimes, and problemsolving throughout. The everyday conditions

on this layout, and its sister course Shepherd’s Rock, are pristine enough to hold a tour event at a moment’s notice.

Shepherd’s Rock is a different kind of enigma. It features more generous landing areas off the tee, but tougher approach shots and absolutely vexing greens. While Mystic Rock hits home with a gripping variety of holes a shot values, Shepherd’s Rock does the same in a ruggedly beautiful natural setting with a quirkier flow and fun pace.

Before taking on Pete Dye’s challenges at Mystic Rock and Shepherd’s Rock, one might consider a lesson or tune-up with all the state-of-the-art toys inside The Nemacolin Golf Academy. This golfer’s indoor dreamscape features four spacious, customized hitting bays which can open up to the 25-station driving range that sits adjacent to two short-game practice areas and a large putting green. The Golf Academy, which also features a dedicated, 1,000-square-foot putting room, is optimized for expert golf training and club fitting from Director of Instruction Michael LaBella and his team.

USA TODAY also said about the top resorts singled out in its 10Best honors: “Golf resorts provide the perfect blend of luxury, relaxation, and sport — all wrapped up in one stunning and convenient spot. These 10 resorts — nominated by an expert panel and voted by readers as the best in the U.S. — have at least one standout 18-hole course, provide top-notch accommodations and amenities, and offer delicious dining

options. They also offer a range of other activities so that the non-golfers along for the getaway have plenty to enjoy as well.”

Until you have experienced the eclectic wonders of this larger-than-life resort nestled in the Allegheny Mountains (about one hour southeast of Pittsburgh), it’s simply hard to describe. Following The Footsteps of a TRUE Original GOLF

On the way to becoming one of the most popular golf footwear brands today, TRUE linkswear has dialed in a distinctive naturalist aesthetic in its golf shoes, hoodies, polos, pants and headwear that can appeal as easily to a hiker, surfer or naturebound wanderer as it does to a growing legion of loyal golfers.

This Pacific Northwest golf footwear and lifestyle brand has remained TRUE to its roots as well as its original vision for giving golfers a uniquely close connection to the beloved fairway turf beneath their feet.

When TRUE launched its first golf shoe, the Original Tour T1, back in 2009, it was the first model to hit fairways with a minimalist, barefoot feel for walking golfers seeking wellness. That became the basic foundation for every shoe TRUE has designed since.

“Simply put, this platform “is the most natural and ergonomic position for your feet,” says Mark Millerd, the brand’s Director of International Sales. “The zero-drop – which means it’s level from heel to toe – does not place additional stress on the forefoot, and higher up the chain. A wide footbed enables the toes to function from a position of strength and stability, rather than restricting their movement. The goal is always to provide a neutral platform that follows the shape of a person’s actual foot. This combination of wide toe box, zero drop and flexibility allows the foot to function as intended. Artificial stiffening, excessive heel stack height, and tapered footbeds often contribute to discomfort and footwear-related issues.”

To accomplish the feat, TRUE builds its “TRUE DNA” into every product. That means the space in the shoe is naturally wide with level or low-drop platforms, and they’re flexible. Bottom line: It results in the brand’s signature comfort. The careful selection of materials and construction techniques adds to the overall comfort. Whether that’s providing industry-leading waterproofing or adaptive uppers which conform to your foot’s shape, each aspect of TRUE’s construction aims to enhance a golfer’s overall feel and comfort.

Company co-founder and PGA TOUR pro Ryan Moore

has been integral to TRUE’s footwear development. His search for a more comfortable and functional golf shoe is what led him to design the Original’s first iterations with his brother Jason, who is the brand’s co-founder and CEO.

“Ryan’s influence on the development of our product lines continues to this day,” says Millerd.

“Feedback from our roster of Tour players has also helped guide the next generation of TRUE products.” That level of credibility from the world’s best golfers is invaluable in influencing amateurs.

How does TRUE’s approach to shoe construction actually improve a golfer’s footwork and connection to the turf? “By reducing the stack height underfoot (thin midsoles), providing a wide, stable platform (improved surface contact) and flexibly conforming to the golfer’s movement, the Original enhances the golfer’s ability to interact with the ground,” says Millerd. “The goal is to function from a position of strength and utilize these ground force reactions to harness the feel, power and speed the golfer requires to swing efficiently.”

Those first iterations were undoubtedly pioneering – at the time, there was no golf shoe in the market that provided a zerodrop, wide and flexible platform. As TRUE continued to develop this category, the years of feedback from Tour ambassadors, health professionals and podiatrists led to many variations on what TRUE now calls the OG shoe - which are all rooted in those initial design philosophies.

The addition of a cushioned zero-drop option with last year’s OG Cush and the upcoming OG3 Pro adds versatility and additional comfort for golfers who want an ergonomic ride on a variety of surfaces. And they look better, too.

“Finding our design voice has helped provide all the comfort benefits that our fans love, in a sleek and minimalist aesthetic,” says Millerd, who adds that it encompasses a selfish innovation that the company designs shoes that the team wants to wear themselves. “The new OG3 looks great. We’ve upped the ante with a highly durable, spike-like outsole for superior traction and surface contact. A traditional tongue gusset over the sock-fit collar featured in the Original 1.2 will be a welcome addition for many, too. We’ve also included our cushioned zero-drop midsole (6mm from heel to toe) that provides a level platform with a layer of WanderLux cushioning. It’s an additional layer of comfort for those seeking an element of underfoot cushioning.”

True Links OG Cush

The TRUE linkswear Women’s Cush golf shoes are a game-changer for women who crave comfort, performance, and effortless style on the course. Designed with walking golfers in mind, the Cush delivers a cloud-like experience from the first tee to the final putt.

What makes the Cush stand out immediately is the fit — it hugs your foot without constricting it. TRUE’s wide toe box and flexible knit upper allow natural movement, which is a relief for players used to stiff traditional golf shoes. It’s like wearing your favorite athleisure sneaker, only this one is designed for grip, balance, and 18-hole endurance.

The cross-life tread is surprisingly versatile. Whether you’re teeing off, navigating damp grass, or walking through the parking lot post-round, the traction holds up beautifully without feeling too aggressive. And since it’s spikeless, it transitions off-course effortlessly — perfect for a post-round lunch.

Another benefit is breathability. On humid tri-state summer days, the Cush’s knit construction keeps feet cooler and reduces fatigue. It’s also incredibly lightweight, so your legs feel fresher by the back nine.

From a style perspective, the Cush doesn’t scream “golf shoe.” It comes in soft, neutral tones that pair easily with skorts, joggers, or tailored golf pants, making it a favorite among fashion-forward players who want performance without sacrificing aesthetics.

TRUE linkswear clearly understands the needs of modern women golfers: we

want comfort, function, and a design we’d actually wear. The Cush checks every box and proves that high-performance gear can also be wearable, chic, and walk-friendly. If you’re a tri-state golfer who values comfort over clunk, the Cush is a worthy upgrade to your shoe game.

Verdict: A course-to-clubhouse essential — lightweight, breathable, and built for walking without limits.

Seventy Organizations Across the U.S. Selected to Receive Funding Through Make Golf Your Thing Grassroots Grants Program

ATTENTION: Please

Seventy organizations across the United States with programs reaching those underrepresented in golf have been selected to receive funding through the Make Golf Your Thing Grassroots Grants Program. The program is administered by American Golf Industry Coalition, and was created to help strengthen the game by making it more inclusive and accessible to all.

Launched in 2020, the grants program – through its latest round of funding – is distributing $500,000 to grassroots organizations nationwide, bringing the total program investment to $3 million over six years.

The grants program was established to support organizations and programs that are strengthening golf by opening doors and inviting more people from historically underrepresented groups to experience the sport, including Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous communities, as well as women, LGBTQI+ individuals, Veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

This collective industry effort is showing meaningful results. According to the National Golf Foundation, golf participation reached 47.2 million Americans in 2024 – a 50% increase over the past decade. Ethnically diverse participation has grown, increasing 44% since 2020, with 6.9 million ethnically diverse people playing on-course golf in 2024, and for the first time, representing a quarter of all oncourse players. Female participation has similarly grown, with 7.9 million women playing on-course golf in 2024 – a 41% increase since 2019. Women now account for 28% of all on-course participants and represent more than 60% of golf’s participation gains since 2019.

“Golf is an important aspect of our country and our communities, contributing to the economy as well as the well-being of people who get involved,” said Greg McLaughlin, CEO of American Golf Industry Coalition, a division of World Golf Foundation. “These grassroots organizations are doing incredible work to ensure golf is accessible and inviting to people from all backgrounds, identities and abilities. Thank you to our partners who are investing in golf’s future through this program.”

Seven organizations have demonstrated exceptional commitment to inclusive golf programming by receiving grants funding in each of the program’s six cycles: FairWays to Leadership, Golf. My Future. My Game., Greater Cleveland Junior Golf Scholarship Fund, Jackson Park Golf Association, Par Excellence Youth Development, Women in Golf Foundation, and Women of Color Golf.

The grants program is administered by American Golf Industry Coalition and made possible through the generous support of industry partners. Make Golf Your Thing was launched in 2020 as a multifaceted, multi-year initiative that reflects the industry’s commitment to ensure the future of golf remains open to everyone. The initiative supports grassroots organizations working to welcome new participants to golf while building pathways for long-term engagement with the sport. Learn more at MakeGolfYourThing.org.

Golfweek Ranks Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club Among South Carolina’s Top 5 Courses

Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club, two of America’s top 100 resort courses, have added another accolade to their long list of honors. Golfweek has released its annual list of the “Best Courses You Can Play,” a ranking of the best public designs in each state, and Caledonia and True Blue were near the top of golf-rich South Carolina’s best.

Golfweek ranked Caledonia as the Palmetto State’s fourth best public course, followed immediately by True Blue at No. 5. The only three courses above the duo – Kiawah’s Ocean Course, Harbour Town Golf Links, and the Dunes Golf & Beach Club – are regular hosts of PGA Tour or major championship events.

The prestigious list, compiled by Golfweek’s nationwide team of course raters, evaluates public-access layouts based on criteria such as course conditioning, memorability, shot values, and overall design quality. The recognition is a testament to the continued excellence of the sister courses, both designed by legendary architect Mike Strantz.

“Being ranked among the top 5 public golf courses in South Carolina is an honor we take great pride in,” said Bart Romano, PGA, Director of Operations for Caledonia and True Blue. “Mike Strantz’s vision and artistry live on in both layouts, and we understand our responsibility to maintain that legacy. We’re delighted that Golfweek’s raters continue to recognize what traveling golfers have experienced for years - that these courses offer something truly special.”

Located adjacent to one another in Pawleys Island, Caledonia and True Blue offer distinct but equally memorable experiences. Caledonia, Strantz’s first solo design, is renowned for its Lowcountry charm, moss-draped oaks, and a dramatic finish along the Waccamaw River. True Blue, meanwhile, showcases a bolder, more expansive style, with wide fairways, sprawling bunkers, and dynamic green complexes.

Both courses have consistently earned national acclaim, including Golfweek’s recent ranking of both among America’s top 100 resort courses and Golf Magazine’s longstanding recognition of Caledonia as one of the nation’s top 100 public layouts.

Carlisle Country Club Announces Multi-Million Dollar Clubhouse and Golf Course Renovations

New ownership group plans significant investment, positioning the 100-year-old club for the next generation.

Carlisle Country Club, one of central Pennsylvania’s most historic golf clubs, announces a multimillion-dollar renovation project under its new ownership group. This transformation will include comprehensive upgrades to its clubhouse and golf course, enhancing the overall member experience, and positioning the club for the next generation of membership.

Founded in 1924 and celebrating its 100th anniversary, Carlisle Country Club was recently acquired by a group of local businessmen led by entrepreneur Mark Toigo.

“We were members –as well as a local business, and we joined socially,” said Toigu. “Then we took a corporate membership. Eventually, I got asked to be on the board. The club was having some struggles and would not be able to sustain itself much longer. Ultimately, our driving factor was to save it and bring in a quality management team to operate it. Like farmland and golf courses, you just can’t lose legacies like this 100-year-old club. It’s a real piece of the community, and I was blessed enough to be brought into it.”

Carlisle Country Club will begin its capital improvements and master plan development over the next 24 months. The clubhouse, which is the original barn that’s been on site for 100+ years, will receive a comprehensive remodel to create new spaces like a robust sports bar, golf simulators, and fun outdoor areas that enhance the membership experience and better position the club with current trends in the private club space. In addition, the golf shop will be relocated inside the main clubhouse from its current location on the opposite side of the parking lot and be remodeled with a fresh interior design with

more space and fixtures.

“We really want to modernize the club, shifting away from the traditional country club model and atmosphere to a more vibrant and modern club experience, attracting more youth, families, and young professionals,” said Toigo. “Like all capital projects, the clubhouse needs time updating and modernizing, bringing modern technology and design benefits. It will be a multi-year process that will be very exciting for the membership.

The golf course will also be undergoing immediate renovations, as well as a longrange plan with ongoing changes.

“First and foremost, the somewhat antiquated and fractured irrigation system will require a full retrofit to restore the course conditions to the club’s high standards,” continued Toigo. “Adding course enhancements will be fun for members and create a new challenge. It’s a beautiful, walkable course with stunning views.”

Carlisle Country Club has retained Fry Straka Global Golf Course Design to consult on ongoing renovations, which aim to enhance the overall playability and member experience while preserving the

club’s legacy.

“We are very excited to be back in central PA and working with Carlisle Country Club to help them navigate these course enhancements over time,” said Jason Straka, Partner at Fry Straka Global Golf Course Design. “The golf course is a wonderful parkland design with many golden age architectural features that we hope to enhance over time.”

Carlisle Country Club officials are excited about the facility’s direction and the management team they’ve put together with Commonwealth Golf Partners Management, which was selected to lead the course through this transition.

“We’re thrilled that the Carlisle Golf Group and the stellar management group it put together stepped up and committed to our goal to keep Carlisle a private country club,” said Carlisle Country Club Board President, Denise Zimmerman. “The new team’s presence on the property since mid-February has already begun to show noticeable improvements to all aspects of our member experience, and everyone is very excited about the club’s future.”

Discover an Unparalleled Golf Vacation Experience at Nemacolin

The golf experience at Nemacolin is amazing, all on its own. And beyond golf, it gets even better.

After all, visitors describe the mega-popular Pennsylvania resort as a wonderland with endless recreational activities and architectural, artistic, and natural beauty. So if you’re traveling here with a group of golfers, there’s plenty to do off the course to guarantee a thrilling, fun visit. That starts with the personal butlers who help you to experience all that’s offered, by walking through all of the available activities during your time of stay.

“What’s beautiful about our property is that we really curate your itinerary to take advantage of your time off the course,” says Christopher Baran, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We can fill up the calendar as full or as little as you want. Our butlers work directly with our activities team, dining outlets and all of our activity partners, so they can curate an exact opportunity to have you from the golf course to enough downtime to get your next activity appointment. Think of them as your on-site concierge during your entire stay.”

One must-try is the unique Rod & Range Club, where you can go clay shooting – guided by a pro and a trapper, if you want – through over 500 acres of outdoor area.

Although this is a family resort, the

Falling Rock is now an age 16-and-up, 42room hotel that recently went through an extensive renovation and elevation. It’s a great opportunity to have an adults-only indulgence, replete with a private pool. Speaking of age-appropriate, there’s also the newly rebranded casino on property that’s also open to the public. It includes all of the latest games, including blackjack, craps, three-card poker, and a variety of table games. And you can catch the resort shuttle there.

While you’re out on the course, the non-golfers in your group can enjoy the Woodland Spa. There are 40+ treatment rooms at the 10,000 square-foot facility. Whether guests are seeking fitness or indulgence, they have a lot of options here. There’s an extensive variety of treatments offered throughout the day, as well as a lounge, cold plunge, therapeutic programs, holistic healing, acupuncture, sports science side, hot stones, and more.

Golfers, of course, can go there after their round to recover. But if your game needs a little pick-me-up, you can beeline to the beautiful, four-year-old Golf Academy that sports four individual state-of-the-art hitting bays and also doubles as a training facility. PGA Professionals provide lessons and game tuning. There are simulators, high-speed video systems, and Trackman technology to help you dial in your game.

Plus, the bays can open up to the full driving range when the weather is nice.

Then there are all-new dining options, as well. Gusto! offers a northern Italianbased menu, with beautiful handmade pasta and bread, an array of seafood, and tasty authentic dishes. It features cozy chairs, big olive trees and lemon trees within the restaurant, and a great full-service bar atmosphere. It’s perfect for dining by yourself or with your foursome after you get off the course. There’s also tremendous outdoor seating with sunset views.

Another can’t-miss is dining at The Peak, a year-round family adventure area with pools, hot tubs, music and entertainment, private cabanas, bowling, and even axe throwing. The menu features a casual atmosphere, with lighter fare such as tacos, salads, pizzas, burgers and more.

Ultimately what sets Nemacolin apart from all other luxury golf resorts is its 1,500 associates. “We have some of the most authentic people here on our staff,” says Baran. “We’re the largest employer in the county, so we take great pride in our associates. Our owner, Maggie Hardy, says her two bosses are the associates and the guests. You’ll get a one-of-a-kind experience here. Our hospitality is second to none. We are in the middle of nowhere, and we’re proud of it. Your experience here will be very curated and authentic.”

New Jersey Golf Foundation Awards Junior Golfers with Prestigious Peter Famiano Memorial Scholarship

Teegan Linke (Jamesburg) and Luke Krombholz (Metuchen) Awarded $2,500 Annual Scholarship

The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), today announced Teegan Linke (Jamesburg) and Luke Krombholz (Metuchen) as the 2025 recipients of the prestigious Peter Famiano Memorial Scholarship. Teegan and Luke were recognized at the 17th Annual New Jersey Golf Foundation Peter Famiano Memorial Pro-Am, held on June 12th at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.

Peter Famiano was the Head Golf Professional at Crestmont Country Club for over 35 years. In his honor, the NJGF created the Peter Famiano Memorial Scholarship to recognize worthy New Jersey junior golfers for their professionalism, integrity, volunteerism, and willingness to help others. The $2,500 annual scholarship is open to college students of any class year, provided they continue to meet the standards set forth by the NJGF Scholarship Committee. Applications are evaluated on academic achievement, leadership, financial need, volunteer service, and golf involvement.

“This year’s scholarship recipients have demonstrated such a strong commitment to their academic and athletic pursuits, along with a dedication to service and leadership within their communities,” said Chris Hunt, Executive Director, New Jersey Golf Foundation. “I am thrilled that Peter Famiano’s legacy continues to live on through Teegan Linke and Luke Krombholz who reflect his values of character, service, and excellence.”

A senior at Monroe Township High School, Teegan Linke is a member of the National Honor Society and a multi-sport athlete, competing in varsity volleyball and

lacrosse. A passionate junior golfer and community volunteer, she has spent years supporting NJPGA/NJGF junior events at Clearbrook Golf Course, while also fundraising for PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) programming. Her leadership extends beyond golf, Teegan has volunteered at Red Cross blood drives, tutored peers, and coached young volleyball players at school-hosted clinics and camps. In the fall, she will attend Coastal Carolina University to study marketing and hopes to stay involved with the game through programming at the university’s golf course. Teegan’s commitment to empathy, service, and academic success truly reflect the spirit of this award.

Luke Krombholz, a graduate of Metuchen High School, will attend Penn State University this fall, where he has been accepted into the PGA Golf Management University program for aspiring PGA of America Golf Professionals. A member of the First Tee, Metropolitan New York/ Plainfield West 9 since age five, Luke credits the program and the game of golf with teaching him respect, professionalism, and leadership. He serves his community as a peer mentor, student government representative, choir and theater leader, and junior golf coach. Passionate about accessibility in the game, Luke dreams of creating affordable opportunities for junior golfers to thrive, regardless of financial circumstances. The scholarship will help bridge the financial gap as he pursues this vision and honors Mr. Famiano’s legacy of generosity and impact.

Local Author Debuts First Novel: The Philly Phenoms

Long-time Tri-State Golf Magazine Staff Writer, Nate Oxman, has successfully stepped out of the newsroom and into the world of fiction.

Oxman, who has been with this magazine since 2010, has released his debut novel, The Philly Phenoms, courtesy of Atmosphere Press.

Set right here in the tri-state area - in the southwestern suburbs of Philadelphia - the middle-grade sports fiction novel follows 10-year-old Lee Lomax as he searches for a fix for his golf obsession.

“Take notice: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, golf professionals, you name it,” said Oxman. “This book makes a perfect gift for any young reader in your life, whether that kid has already been bitten by the golf bug or has never even picked up a club.”

The Philly Phenoms is available on Amazon/Kindle in paperback and eBook formats as well as through other major retailers such as Barnes & Noble and Walmart Business.

Oxman, an award-winning golf writer as well as a full-time elementary and middle school teacher for over 20 years, weaves some of his childhood into the book.

“The main character, Lee, certainly is based a lot on what I was like as a 10-year-old kid, but he also has some character traits that I didn’t have back then,” said Oxman. “He’s brave. He’s outspoken at times. He’s determined. I was pretty darn shy as a kid.”

That bravery is tested at a few key points in the story including during a couple of insane run-ins with the book’s antagonist, an obstinate old crank named Hal Rustin.

“There are a handful of really entertaining incidents between these two characters,” said Oxman. “My favorite is probably one that takes place in the clubhouse of Ridley Creek Country Club, the fictitious club featured in the book where Lee’s dad, Sam, and his grandpa are members. Hal Rustin is pretty intimidating, especially to a young kid, but Lee refuses to be bullied and that

sets the stage for some fantastic scenes in the story.”

Rustin is a bad guy readers of all ages will love to hate and each time he enters the story, the reader can sense that something wild is about to happen.

The story is also carried by a charity match coming to Ridley Creek CC on the anniversary of 9/11. The match will feature two PGA Tour professionals against Ridley Creek’s head pro and the current club champion.

Lee Lomax learns about this match and makes it his mission to get his dad, a very talented player who stepped away from competitive golf, to sign up to compete in the club championship and hopefully earn a spot in the charity match on 9/11.

“I’ve always had this idea for a story styled after The Sandlot, but then I read a great non-fiction book by John Strege called When War Played Through about golf’s major championships being postponed during World War II and how the Red Cross staged exhibition charity matches throughout the country to raise money for the war effort. I thought it would be cool to bring that to the 21st century and tie 9/11 into the story.”

Oxman and the book were also recently featured on Inside Golf with Harry Donahue on NBC Sports Philadelphia and he has scheduled events at clubs throughout the tri-state area to help get the book in the hands of as many young readers as possible.

Oxman sought some assistance from longtime friends to help make this first novel a special one. Paolo Costa, of Costa Mainline Art, painted the cover. Chandler Withington, of Archive 22, sketched the Ridley Creek CC course map that serves as a reference for the reader, and Ryan Gabel, of Alternate Golf Logos, created Ridley Creek’s logo.

“All of those guys helped lift this book to a higher level,” said Oxman. “The reviews have been really positive. I’ve received five-star reviews from different services like Readers’ Favorite and Reader Views so that’s been encouraging for sure.”

“I wrote the book for reluctant readers, I would say from ages 8 to maybe 15,” said Oxman. “I’ve taught English at the elementary and middle school level for a long time and I’ve watched so many kids fail to develop or completely lose their love for reading because they’ve become bogged down by analyzing every word an author chooses to write. So I had that in mind throughout the writing process and wanted to create a light, easy read. Hopefully, I did a decent job.”

Champion Hills Rebuilds with Heart: A Story of Resilience and Restoration

When Hurricane Helene swept through in late September 2024, Champion Hills Golf Club faced a challenge no playbook could have prepared them for. Torrential rains and fierce winds damaged Tom Fazio’s acclaimed “Mountain Masterpiece,” leaving the course and its community with a long road to recovery.

The first priority was ensuring the safety of members, staff, and the surrounding neighborhood. With that accomplished, the focus shifted to restoring one of America’s Top 100 residential courses. Guided by a resilient board and membership, general manager Alan Deck and course superintendent Alan Burnette led the charge to bring Champion Hills back, stronger than ever.

As the club heads into its spring season, remarkable progress has been made. While the front nine reopened in early October, more work was required on the home nine, but by April 1, 17 holes were back open. The finishing touch – the 18th hole –remains under careful reconstruction, with a projected reopening in early May.

“Considering the sheer destruction (across the region) and overwhelming demand for golf course crews and engineers, we’ve actually been very fortunate,” said Alan Deck, General Manager of Champion Hills. “Securing

Aspen Construction, fresh off a project at Augusta National, was a huge win for us.”

The storm caused washouts, landslides, and erosion, particularly along the course’s natural creeks. Holes 11, 15, 16, and 18 bore the brunt of the damage. Aspen Construction, collaborating with the Fazio Design team, spearheaded the creek bank restoration efforts, leveled tees, and completed extensive bunker work.

“The restoration has been phenomenal,” Deck said. “With Fazio’s input, we made thoughtful changes, like removing a bunker on 16 to enhance playability and installing capillary concrete for durability. We also used an advanced erosion control method called SOX to stabilize creek banks on 11, 15, and 16.”

Recovery was a multi-stage process. In the storm’s aftermath, the Champion Hills team faced the immediate task of clearing roads and assessing damages. Partnering with Miller Brothers Construction, Cosgrove Landscaping, and specialized masonry experts, Burnette and his team tackled the course restoration project, step by step.

Their dedication was particularly evident given the personal hardships members of the team faced. Burnette’s home was damaged by a fallen tree, yet he remained committed to leading the club’s

recovery. Other staff members endured similar challenges but stayed resolute.

“The teamwork has been extraordinary,” Deck said. “Alan Burnette, head golf professional Eric Fowler, and membership director Heather Myers all went above and beyond. Eric created innovative ways to keep our members engaged with limited holes available. Everyone stepped up when it mattered most.”

That spirit of resilience extended to Champion Hills’ membership. Understanding the importance of supporting their community, members not only remained patient but also raised six figures in financial assistance for employees impacted by the storm.

“The generosity and support of our members have been overwhelming,” Deck said. “They understood that doing things the right way was more important than rushing the process.”

As Champion Hills prepares to fully reopen, the course stands as a testament to resilience and renewal. The lessons learned and bonds forged during this experience will endure, ensuring that no storm – no matter how powerful – can shake the foundation of this top 100 private community.

Shot Scope, industry leader in golf GPS, rangefinder and shot tracking technology, is proud to debut its new “My Game. My Story.” brand campaign for 2025, marking a significant investment in growing the company’s reach in the North American market.

At the heart of the campaign is the moving “This Is Our Game” commercial, now airing across digital channels and with media partners around the globe. The inspirational marketing campaign tells the story of every golfer’s desire to play and score better, told through the eyes of Shot Scope’s community of golfers who hail from a diverse cross-section of backgrounds and playing abilities. The players’ stories echo relatable aspirations and connections to golf that reveal, to everyone who plays, “it’s more than a game – it’s an obsession and a never-ending pursuit to improve.”

The campaign also includes a series of documentaries that showcase the individual journeys of each golfer, their quest to play better golf, and enjoy the game more by following Shot Scope’s “Know Your Game” mantra.

Launching early April, “My Game. My Story.” features brand ambassador and 2002 PGA Championship winner Rich Beem. Beem explains how he had a caddie for distances when he was a professional golfer, but today he uses Shot Scope to understand his game. Also featured are Texas-based amateur golfer Iris Wong, who has gone from beginner to club champion in just four years using the technology, and popular golf content creator Gabriela DeGasperis,

also known as Gabby Golf Girl –uses the company’s rangefinders, GPS watches and performance tracking data for insights into her game.

“Shot Scope’s core mission is to help golfers improve and enjoy the game we love. We empower golfers to reach their true potential by providing the essential tools to play better, so we are excited to launch the My Game. My Story. campaign across North America,” said Shot Scope Founder and CEO David Hunter, who, through tracking his own game in great detail via pen and paper, developed the seamless data collection technology that is used in Shot Scope’s products. “We’re thrilled to reach more and more golfers across North America as we grow our community and continue to spread the message that by knowing your game you have a path to playing better and scoring better. We hope golfers worldwide find our new campaign relatable and inspiring.

Our philosophy is simple: Golfers want to improve and by providing golfers with the right tools and insights on their game they can easily drop strokes. I would absolutely say that Shot Scope is one of the biggest reasons why I finally

achieved my goal of becoming a single digit handicap golfer,” he said.

Hunter and the Shot Scope team – including former Walker Cup player Gavin Dear and elite amateur Jennifer Saxton (who has lowered her handicap from scratch to +5 using Shot Scope data to guide her practice plan) – are themselves dedicated golfers who are just as improvement minded as their consumers. On average, golfers who capture their data in the subscription-free Shot Scope app improve by an average of four strokes per round.

To date, more than 400 million golf shots have been tracked by more than 220,000 Shot Scope users worldwide.

The recognition is a testament to the continued excellence of the

sister courses, both designed by legendary architect Mike Strantz.

For more information on tee times, stay-and-play packages, or the latest news from each course, visit www. CaledoniaGolfandFishClub.com or TrueBlueGolf.com.

Bobby Jones Links Selected to Manage Delaware’s Mulligan’s Pointe

Bobby Jones Links (BJL), the golf industry’s leading client-centric, boutique management company, proudly announces that it is now managing Mulligan’s Pointe in Georgetown, Delaware.

The tree-lined, walkable championship Edmund B. Ault design stretches to 6,659 yards and is flanked by a driving range, practice green and chipping and practice bunker area. The property also includes the popular Mulligan’s Pointe Bar & Grill, a lively destination for live music on weekends, trivia nights, music, bingo, and themed parties. The venue, with facilities accommodating up to 300 guests, is also popular for weddings, banquets, fundraisers, and corporate events. After

its acquisition by Pete Townsend and Michelle DePalmaTownsend in 2018, the former Sussex Pines Country Club was transformed into a public facility focused on community involvement and accessibility.

“Mulligan’s Pointe is an incredibly fun and welcoming home away from home for many golfers in Central Delaware, and it’s a privilege that BJL has been entrusted with helping to preserve the culture, sense of place, and camaraderie that the course is known for – while maximizing service, efficiency and profitability,” said Doug Hellman, Bobby Jones Links Chief Development Officer.

According to DePalma-Townsend, the decision to select BJL to manage Mulligan’s Pointe came down to the people, the vision and the fit. “(Cofounder) Steve Willy and the BJL team impressed us with their profound understanding of our business and

innovative solutions to steer Mulligan’s Pointe towards ongoing success,” she said. “Their expertise in optimizing operations and enhancing the customer journey will be incredibly beneficial. They bring a wealth of best practices, standard operational procedures and industry insights that we can leverage to streamline our processes, improve efficiency, and ultimately deliver even greater value to our members and guests.”

BJL will also help implement online booking systems and streamlined communication channels, helping to create a more seamless, convenient, and enjoyable experience for every guest. “With the support and resources of Bobby Jones Links we anticipate a dynamic period of growth and enhanced customer engagement across Mulligan’s Pointe” said DePalma-Townsend. “We foresee increased activity throughout our facilities, driven by the introduction of innovative programs, marketing initiatives and most importantly we are confident that the BJL team will have the people, systems and processes to manage the growth. It’s a very exciting time for us personally as we watch the changes and the progress.”

The Townsend’s also own Sports at the Beach, a 16-field youth baseball complex designed for league and tournament play. It attracts teams from across America and internationally. BJL will also help maximize efficiency on the 100-acre facility that includes dormitorystyle housing for teams and coaches, recreational amenities, concessions and dining, pro shop and gift shop – as well as new pickleball courts.

The BJL team has already hit the ground running, beginning to implement new staff training procedures and backend best practices. “We are very pleased

to work for owners who have done such a good job taking care of its customers and making the course such an inviting and beloved destination,” Hellman said. “Our team is in a tremendous position to help Mulligan’s Pointe operate with utmost professionalism, ideal business practices, and staff training that takes a great customer experience to new heights without changing the character or approachability of property that locals really love.”

Harbor Shores Breaks Ground on Wee Course with Colin Montgomerie

Hall of Fame golfer and former KitchenAid Senior PGA Champion visits the resort for a groundbreaking event

Harbor Shores Resort, the Lake Michigan shoreline golf destination with its Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf course, recently welcomed Hall of Fame golfer and 2014 and 2015 KitchenAid Senior PGA Champion Colin Montgomerie to walk the site, finalize his design of the new Wee Course, support a fundraising event, and take part in the groundbreaking ceremony.

The five-acre, nine-hole pitch-andputt Wee Course will open in 2026. The design will consist of holes measuring 60 yards or less modeled after the nine most iconic holes of the current Jack Nicklaus layout. This is the latest community amenity at Harbor Shores Golf Club, providing another unique, fun golf attraction at the popular resort. Kids will play for free, and youth programming will be a priority.

“I am very excited to be a part of such a wonderful project with the Harbor Shores Resort, a place and people that I am very close with, and to collaborate with them to create a wonderful golf amenity that will positively impact the community,” said Montgomerie. “Golf is a game for all ages and generations. Courses like the Wee Course will attract parents who play golf and want to introduce their children to the game, and grandparents who might

not be able to play 18 but can bring their grandchildren along for nine holes. Children can be introduced to golf through friends and bring along their parents, who have yet to try the game. From my personal experience around the world and especially in Scotland, short wee courses can bring together communities and form a foundation for the whole area.”

Montgomerie and the Harbor Shores Resort team walked the course site, which is located adjacent to the golf villas along the first hole. The world-class course designer and his team worked on ideas for the course routing, landscaping plans, and the eighteen-hole putting green that will complement the Wee Course.

While addressing the Harbor Shores group during the fundraising event, Montgomerie said:

“The Wee Course is already exceeding my expectations with how it is all coming together on the five acres of land along the main entrance to the golf course. This piece of land deserves this. It will be another great asset to the community and bring a beautiful landscape along the roadway for the community to enjoy.” It will also be a great complement to the Harbor Shores Golf Course, which, holeby-hole, is one of the greatest courses in America.”

Jeff Fettig, former chairman and CEO of Whirlpool Corporation and a leading contributor through the Fettig Family Foundation, and the visionary behind this Harbor Shores expansion, sees this amenity having a major impact on the youth in the community.

“We’re so excited to work with Colin to create this new Wee Course to have an

even greater positive impact on our area youth.,” said Fettig, “When we developed Harbor Shores, our mission was all about being a catalyst in the Benton Harbor community for economic development, recreation and tourism. This project is about seeding the future.”

The Wee Course will also be a significant part of growing the annual Whirlpool Community Charity Golf Event, which provides $3M+ in funding to the community’s youth by raising money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Benton Harbor, First Tee of Benton Harbor, First Robotics and the three local public school foundations of Benton Harbor, St. Joseph and Lakeshore

“The Whirlpool Foundation is proud to support this new familyfocused amenity at Harbor Shores,”

said Pam Klyn, president of Whirlpool Foundation. ”The mission of Whirlpool Foundation is to improve the quality of life in the communities where Whirlpool Corporation operates. We are excited that our local youth will not only benefit from the ongoing programming at the Wee Course but also from the growth opportunities this provides for our annual charity golf event, which has raised over $34 million and positively impacted more than 10,000 local youth over the last 21 years.”

This latest community attraction has strong support from Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad. “The Wee Course will be another testament of the ongoing commitment and collaboration of Whirlpool Corporation, Harbor Shores, and the City of Benton Harbor,” said Muhammad. “This new development will bolster our First Tee program,

youth participation, and community engagement. As Mayor of Benton Harbor, I look forward to contributing to the success of the Wee Course.”

The Wee Course will also be supported through donations from Corewell Health, one of Michigan’s largest non-profit healthcare systems.

“We at Corewell Health are thrilled to partner with Harbor Shores, the Whirlpool Foundation, and the Fettig Foundation on this innovative project,” said Soroya Pierre-VanArtsen, President of Corewell Health Foundation Southwest Michigan. “By improving the green space

in our community and making golf more accessible to everyone, we are not only enhancing the beauty of our surroundings but also creating opportunities for individuals who may not typically have access to play. This initiative embodies our commitment to fostering a healthier, more inclusive community where everyone can enjoy the benefits of outdoor recreation.”

The Wee Course and the 18-hole putting course, inspired by similar attractions at St. Andrews and Pinehurst, will have lighting, music, and food and beverage to make it a great community gathering space. The new golf amenity is just one of many exciting developments in the community, including an outdoor park along the canal on Riverview Drive and the continued expansion of walking and bike trails.

Dunedin Golf Club Awarded Renovation of the Year by Golf Inc.

Iconic Central Florida Muni design gets recognized as the top public course renovation

Dunedin Golf Club, the historic Donald Ross-designed course owned by the City of Dunedin (just north of Tampa), has been awarded “Renovation of the Year” by Golf Inc. in the public course category. Through the guidance of golf course architect Kris Spence, a leading Donald Ross expert, and a $6 million course restoration, the course has been restored to its roots of the Golden Age of Architecture.

“Being recognized by Golf Inc. as the top public golf course renovation is very exciting, especially for a municipal course,” said Blair Kline, General Manager of Golf Operations. “This recognition is a testament to the support we have received from the City of Dunedin, which had the vision of how a restoration of this magnitude can impact the local community, along with the work that Kris Spence did in bringing back the greens and bunker complexes that Donald Ross originally intended.”

Dunedin Golf Club was built in 1926 and opened for play on January 1, 1927, under the name Dunedin Isles Golf Club. At the time, Ross referred to it as “his masterpiece” and attributed it to its ideal combination of rolling hills, waterways, and other natural hazards that made it possible to achieve his idea of course perfection. In 1939, the City of Dunedin took ownership of the course, and in 2024, it took over the management operations.

Over the years, several renovations took the course further away from what Ross had created. This included the green complexes shrinking 35-to-50 percent, taking away from the strategy Ross intended. In 2014, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Now, thanks to this latest and meticulous restoration of the green complexes, bunkers, fairways, and tees, every golfer can experience the course as Ross intended – right down to the actual greens Ross originally created.

“At Dunedin, the most pleasant surprise was that I could see the old green extending out beneath those renovations and was able to measure them and compare them to his original plans and notes, and I quickly realized that the original greens had never been destroyed,” says Spence. “They were just buried under this material, so the opportunity to remove the material, excavate and expose the original greens, and restore them was possible.”

In 1944, the PGA of America moved its

headquarters to Dunedin from Chicago and renamed the course PGA National Golf Club – leasing it from the city. Eventually, the PGA moved out, but the site hosted 18 consecutive Senior PGA Championships – as well as the original PGA Merchandise Show in 1954.

Dunedin Golf Club is now widely considered one of Florida’s top municipal courses, along with the Winter Park Golf Course in Orlando and The Park at West Palm Beach. Rates for 18 holes range from $85 to $130, depending on the season, and there are discounted green fees for local residents.

Golf Inc. annually recognizes the Best New Golf Course Developments and Renovations. This year’s winners focused on restoring original designs and making old things new again.

“Sometimes the theme of a particular crop of competition winners is difficult to pinpoint, but this year’s is a no-brainer: What’s old is new again,” said Golf Inc. “The common thread was the desire to go back to how things used to be. Obviously, any golf course renovation is trying to change things up, but this year, most of the winning venues also sought out the original designs of their courses and followed them as closely as possible. Sometimes the old ways really are better.”

You’ve worked hard for these carefree days and now it’s time to enjoy them. A day at our continuing care retirement community in Newtown Square might include a session in the floral design studio, a book discussion group, a simulcast opera in our auditorium, and a seasonal dinner—not to mention yoga or pickleball with newfound friends. Plus, with Philadelphia only miles away, all of the city’s cultural resources are close at hand. There’s always something interesting to do at Dunwoody Village. Contact us today to learn more.
