A look into the rich transformation of Flushing, a neighborhood of Queens.
The space serves as a bridge of the past and present history of Flushing, and how those who have walked this land before will forever leave an impact on the neighborhood.
Featuring a special exhibiton by artist Tina Seligman
Program: Gallery + Creative Hub
Location: Flushing, Queens, New York Spring 2025
This project consists of a tenant improvement in a gallery setting. The scope of the project is roughly 4,000 square feet and is located in Flushing, Queens, a neighborhood in New York City.
The designer was tasked with designing a creative hub that invovles a workshop, maker’s space, artist studio, and a gallery. The designer was also tasked with finding a local artist and creating the branding for the artist gallery exhibit.
The concept and design approach of this project involved a mixture of research of the location and the artist philosophy.

“With so much division in the world, our shared experiences of nature remind us how connected we are as humans. We need to take care of Earth and each other.”
-Tina Seligman

Seligman’s Wave Forms welcomes the viewer into a rich body of work that reflects on the patterns of lunar and solar movements and how they impact our lives, and further transforms her studies through music, poetry, and visual art.

When I need a break, I love coming out to the courtyard. The weeping willow tree is so peaceful to sit under and I like watching people enjoy my art in the gallery.
My studio has everything I need! It is so convenient because it has a desk to work, a collaborative area, a relaxing area, and storage!
I love how the gallery displays different mediums and has a musical component. I feel like I connected with the artist and learned about her story and about Flushing!
Working 1-on-1 with Seligman herself, I designed a small retail area that sells custom merch and souvenirs. The retail area is placed in the courtyard, which serves as an extension of the gallery, and houses a weeping willow which is an homage to Flushing.
As visitors move around the space, Seligman’s different mediums of sculpture and painting will be accompanied with a musical piece that she composed. Some pieces have a connection to Flushing, which will allow the viewer to further reflect on the land they are on.

Program: Retail Store
Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Area: ~1,200 SF Fall 2024
The project consists of a tenant improvement in a retail setting. The designer was tasked with creating the identity and brand of a retail store to complement the tech company for the RTO project. Paper & Pen is a sustainable stationery store whose mission is to make creativity accessible to everyone.
Paper & Pen incorporates softness into their branding through a neutral color palette and slightly curved forms.
Throughout the space, curves are apparent in the interior architecture, and each surface is finished with soft textures and materials.
This project is an extension of the Notion RTO. Paper & Pen is a complement to Notion because it provides users the experience of tangible note-taking, in contrast to Notion’s digital approach.

To infinity and beyond! --with ADA clearances.
The project scope and challenge was to create an all gender restroom with ADA compliance.
The solution was designing a bathroom inspired by futuristic spaceships. The presence of glossy epoxy, chrome, and stainless steel allow for easy maintenance and resemble the smooth clean surfaces that spaceships have.
When designing the restroom, the word ‘space’ and ‘universal’ was used literally because of the implementation of ADA clearances and in form development and FF&E. In the solution, consideration for families was also considered. This restroom implements a family stall and a children’s sink.

Project: Fashion Wearable
Location: Mongolia
Group Members: Anna Kerr, Elvira Ng, Wesley Liang, Kevin Trinh, Joanne Soo, Yu-Hsuan Huang Fall 2024
The project consists of creating a wearable based on an existing building. We focused on the Hulunbuir Hailar Airport in Mongolia. After studying and researching the building, we created a wearable utilizing vellum paper and the technique of origami. I modeled the wearable and will be walking at Haworth’s 5-V Fashion show in April 2025.
I contributed in concept development, graphic development, hand-modeling, and modeling the wearable. Modeling the wearable was a step outside of my comfort zone, but it helped in growing my confidence.
early prototypes with printer paper
During this process, we experimented with folding scraps of paper around the classroom and testing out forms we could make.
The folding of regular printer paper later led us to experimenting with origami and different kinds of paper, like vellum.
The focus of our wearable revolved around the structure of the columns at the Hulunbuir Airport.
The columns are made up of a diamond shape that are retracted at the base of the column, and expand as the column widens.
In the process of making our wearable, we utilized this same approach with the origami. With the origami folds, the folds are tighter at the waistband and expand as the body grows fuller.
