PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
SITUATED IN A SMALL FARMING TOWN, ALMA, NEBRASKA; THIS NEW, 6,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING FOR BANNER CAPITAL BANK SAUGHT TO INCORPORATE A MODERN AESTHETIC WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY KEEPING A SMALL-TOWN FEELING.
THE INTERIOR CONCEPT AND FINISHES WERE DERIVED FROM THE WHEAT STALK DEPICTED IN THE COMPANY'S LOGO. WARM NEUTRAL TONES CREATE A SUBTLE BACKDROP THAT ALLOWS BRIGHTLY COLORED, EYE-CATHING DESIGN ELEMENTS TO BE THE FOCUS. ADDITIONAL COMPANY BRANDING WAS INCORPORATED THROUGH SELECTION OF FURNITURE FABRICS AND CUSTOM, BACK-LIT SIGNAGE.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
THIS NEW INDEPENDENT LIVING FACILITY FOR RETIRED CATHOLIC PRIESTS IS LOCATED IN OLATHE, KS NEAR SANTA MARTA'S SENIOR LIVING FACILITY. IT IS APPROXIMATELY 12,000 SQUARE FEET AND FEATURES 10 - (1) BEDROOM UNITS AS WELL AS A GUEST SUITE, SHARED COMMON SPACES AND A PRIVATE CHAPEL.
EACH UNIT HAS BOTH AN EXTERIOR ENTRANCE AND AN INTERIOR ENTRANCE, THAT IS ACCESIBLE FROM A MAIN CORRIDOR. THE INTERIOR ENTRANCES WERE DESIGNED TO MIMIC THE "PORCH-LIKE" EXTERIOR ENTRANCES. IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, EACH UNIT ENTRANCE FEATURES A WOOD CEILING FEATURE THAT IS SIMILAR TO THE EXTERIOR PERGOLAS, AS WELL AS PIN-MOUNTED UNIT NUMBERS, PLACED VERTICALLY AND HIGHLIGHTED WITH A WALL SCONCE. THE TWO UNIT TYPES, "A" AND "B" FEATURE VARIATIONS IN BOTH THE FLOOR PLAN AND THE FINISHES.
AS THIS FACILITY WAS DESIGNED FOR AN AGING POPULATION, SPECIAL ATTENTION WAS MADE IN TERMS OF WAYFINDING. THE SHARED COMMON SPACES WERE PLACED CENTRALLY TO ACT AS AN ACHOR FOR EACH OF THE THREE INTERSECTING CORRIDORS. EACH CORRIDOR WAS THEN DESIGNATED WITH A SPECIFIC ACCENT COLOR THAT WAS USED TO HIGHLIGHT EACH INTERIOR UNIT ENTRANCE.

CORRIDOR FINISHES & WAYFINDING CONCEPT
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
THE OVERALL GOAL WITH THE RENOVATION AND EXPANSION OF THE JOINT FIRE, POLICE AND DISPATCH CENTER IN RIVERSIDE, MO WAS CREATE A LIGHTER, BRIGHTER AND MORE MODERN AESTHETIC WHILE INCORPORATING TOUCHES OF RESIDENTIAL ELEMENTS IN AN EFFORT TO CREATE A CALMER, MORE INVITING SPACE TO HELP ALLIVIATE STRESS.
THE SHARED LOBBY SPACE WAS GIVEN A FACE-LIFT BY PAINTING THE DATED, EXISTING WOOD TRIM WHITE AND THE COLUMNS AND WALLS VARYING SHADES OF WARM GRAYS. A NICHE CREATED BY ADDING PUBLIC RESTROOMS TO THE LOBBY WAS UTILIZED TO CREATE A UNIQUE FOCAL POINT FOR GUESTS ENTERING THE BUILDING. CUSTOM BACK-LIT, PERFORATED METAL PANELS DISPLAYS A PORTION OF THE MISSOURI RIVER, SIMILAR TO THE CITY'S LOGO.
SHARED SPACES WERE KEPT NEUTRAL, WHILE DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC SPACES WERE HIGHLIGHTED USING RESPECTIVE ACCENT COLORS, FURNITURE FABRICS AND CUSTOM GRAPHIC ELEMENTS. EXTRA CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN TO THE FACILITY'S SHARED TRANING ROOM THAT HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY DEDICATED TO HONOR FALLEN POLICE OFFICER, JEFFERSON TAYLOR. WORKING DIRECTLY WITH CITY OFFICIALS, A CUSTOM MURAL WAS DESIGNED TO COMMEMORATE OFFICER TAYLOR.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BRAND NEW 42-ACRE PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CAMPUS IN SIOUX FALLS, SD. THE FACILITY INCLUDES THE MAIN TRAINING, ADMINISTRATION, & DISPATCH CENTER, FIRING RANGE, EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATIONS COURSE, FIRING RANGE, MULTIPLE FIRE TRAINING STRUCTURES, AS WELL AS STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE FACILITIES.
THE INTERIOR CONCEPT FOR THE ADMINISTRATION, TRAINING, AND DISPATCH FACILITY (PICTURED ABOVE) WAS BASED ON THE IDEA OF "CITY PRIDE", WHICH UTILIZED THE COLORS FOUND IN SIOUX FALL'S CITY LOGO. THESE COLORS WERE UTILIZED AS WAYFINDING TOOLS AS WELL AS A WAY TO DEFINE EACH DEPARTMENT'S (FIRE, POLICE, EMERGENCY OPERATIONS & DISPATCH) SPACE WITHIN THE NEARLY 40,000 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
DESIGNED IN CONJUCTION WITH EIDOS ARCHITECTS. THIS NEW WATER MANAGEMENT CAMPUS FOR THE CITY OF AURORA, CO. INCLUDES A 3-STORY ADMINSTRATION BUILDING, AS WELL AS STORAGE, MAINTENANCE, AND FLEET BUILDINGS.
INSPIRED BY BIOPHILIC DESIGN, ALL OF THE INTERIOR FINISHES WERE SELECTED TO BE CALMING AND ENVOKE A SENSE OF CONNECTION WITH NATURE. MANY OF THE CUSTOM DESIGN ELEMENTS, SUCH AS THE RECEPTION DESK, CAFE PLANTERS & FEATURE WALL, AND THE ELEVATOR & STAIR WALL GRAPHICS MIMIC THE FORMS AND ELEMENTS FOUND IN NATURE.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
NEW 3-STORY BUILDING FOR THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS & FINANCE AT PARK UNIVERSITY IN PARKVILLE, MO.
ALTHOUGH THE MAJORITY OF THE DESIGN FOR THIS PROJECT WAS COMPLETE BY THE TIME I STARTING WORKING AT WSKF, I WAS GIVEN THE TASK OF CREATING SEVERAL DIFFERENT GRAPHIC AND WAYFINDING ELEMENTS THROUGHOUT THE SPACE. USING ILLUSTRATOR I CREATED CUSTOM WINDOW FILM FOR ALL OF THE INTERIOR STOREFRONT. THE PATTERN FOR THE WINDOW FILM IS MEANT TO REPRESENT DIGITAL TICKER-TAPES USED TO DISPLAY STOCK TRANSACTIONS. THE PATTERN IS ACCENTED BY PARK UNIVERSITY'S SCHOOL COLORS, AS WELL AS HIDDEN PIRATE SKULLS.
I ALSO WORKED IN CONJUCTION WITH PARK UNIVERSITY TO CREATE UNIQUE ROOM SIGNAGE AS WELL AS SIGNAGE FOR THOSE THAT DONATED TO MAKE THE PROJECT POSSIBLE. THE FINAL DONOR SIGNAGE INCLUDES THE SILHOUETTE OF MACKAY HALL'S CLOCK TOWER, THE OLDEST AND MOST ICONIC BUILDING ON PARK'S CAMPUS.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
WHEN I MET WITH THE OWNERS OF THIS TWO-STORY, SINGLE-FAMILY HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME I WAS IMMEDIATELY EXCITED BY THE VISION THEY HAD. THEY WERE ALREADY WORKING WITH AN ARCHITECT TO ENCLOSE A PORTION OF THEIR LANAI AND EXTENDING THE KITCHEN, ALMOST DOUBLING IT IN SIZE. SINCE THE FAMILY REGULARLY ENTERTAINED, THEY NOT ONLY NEEDED THE KITCHEN TO BE LARGER, BUT IT ALSO NEEDED TO BE MORE FUNCTIONAL. USING THIS AS A STARTING POINT, WE FIRST FOCUSED ON PLACEMENT OF THE APPLIANCES. SURROUNDED BY WHITE, HIGH-GLOSS THERMOFOIL CABINETS, THE SEPARATE COLUMN REFIGERATOR AND FREEZER, STACKED WALL OVENS AND BUILT-IN COFFEE MAKER WERE PLACED ALONG THE BACK WALL, CREATING A FOCAL POINT. DARK, WOODGRAIN LAMINATE BASE CABINET WERE THEN USED TO CREATE CONTRAST. TWO SINKS DIVIDE THE KITCHEN INTO TWO SEPARATE WORK ZONES. THE SMALLER SINK WAS PLACED BETWEEN ALL OF THE COOKING ELEMENTS AND REFRIGERATORS TO MAKE FOOD PREP EASIER. THE SECOND, LARGER SINK WAS PLACED AT THE OPPOSITE END, INTENDED TO BE USED FOR CLEAN UP. THE TWO-TIERED ISLAND ACHORS THE ENTIRE KITCHEN AND ALLOWS FOR CHAIR HEIGHT OR STOOL HEIGHT SEATING.
