ENTERTAINING A LEON FAMILY TRADITION Chewy Molasses Sugar Cookies Perfect for dessert exchanges, a snack for Santa, or for cookie monsters of all ages, everyone will love this classic recipe.

Ingredients: 3/4 cup each butter and sugar 1/4 cup each brown sugar and molasses 1 egg 2 tsp baking soda 2 cups flour 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp each ground cloves, ground ginger 1/2 tsp salt Sugar for dipping Instructions: Cream butter and sugars. Add molasses and egg; combine. Sift dry ingredients; combine with wet ingredients.

Chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375ยบ.

Roll dough into 1 1/2" balls, dip in sugar and bake on a parchment-lined cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes.

TREASURED TRADITION My favourite holiday tradition is hanging a stocking on the mantel. It’s the one my mom gave me when I was a kid. It was filled with special plush socks and chocolates, things only she knew I loved. This has become part of the magic of the holidays.

STOCK UP KEEP IT SIMPLE Let others take over least-loved tasks. For example, spending time in the kitchen is not one of my favourite things, so I order a special platter from my local grocer. That way, I support my community and get to devote more time doing what I love: decorating.

It’s party season. And there’s a good chance there will be a last-minute gathering at my place. So I always have flavoured bubbly water on hand – and lots of it! It’s fun and creates memories – they bring out all the things they’ve made together, laugh and talk about the times they spent making them.

MIX IT UP Rather than traditional flower arrangements, I love Ikebana – the art of Japanese flower arranging. Begin with a floral tray already prepped with pins. Fill with water and then put a stem on each pin. So easy! You just choose how high and how wide the arrangement will be. And it’s affordable because you don’t need a lot of flowers, yet you get the look of a high-end floral shop.

You can even add an over-sized feather or dried hydrangea – things you may already have on hand – to add to the mix and give it your own personal touch.

How did you two blend your decorating styles?

Ashley: Even though I had my heart set on some pink chairs, I knew that wasn’t going to happen.

Nazem: We worked together and there was a lot of compromising. I’m more conservative and Ashley takes a more creative approach.

Did you have a specific look in mind when you were furnishing your place?

Ashley: We like a lot of bronze, marble and plush fabrics in neutral tones.

Nazem: It would have to be the mattress. All our mattresses are from Leon’s, and the staff really took the time to find the right mattress for us. Quality sleep is very important to me to be able to perform my best on game day.
