Thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio and read this special note. I decided to include this note to further express how much this means to me. Although I am proud of this portfolio and the work inside, I am much more proud of what this portfolio represents. To me this portfolio represents how much I have grown over the past two years. Aside from my artistic improvement, I have recognized my own personal growth. The past two years have brought so much positive change into my life. Along with all I have learned so far, architecture has already brought me many lifelong relationships, endless stories and experiences. As well as influence positive change in my own personal goals and values. It’s wild how much can change in only two years. In this time I have discovered my passion for architecture that continues to grow, along with the hope I have for my future self.
I could have never imagined the amount of positivity I have in my life right now. For that I want to thank everyone that has impacted my time at Detroit Mercy. All the staff, classmates, my family and especially the studio crew. Without the constant help and reassurance from my peers none of this could be possible.

WITH THE RECENT REBIRTH AND REDEVELOPMENT OF CAPITOL PARK, THIS MUSEUMS CONCEPT STEMS FROM THE IDEA OF CHANGE. CAPITOL PARKS MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART STRENGTHENS DETROIT’S ESTABLISHED AND HISTORIC ART AND ENTERTAIMENT CULTURE. WITH PERMANTENT AND ROTATING CURRATION OF ARTWORK, MOCA WILL PROVIDE A NEW ATTRACTION TO THE HISTORIC COMMUNITY OF CAPITOL PARK. THE BUILDIGNS FORM IS INTENDED TO RELATE TO THE DIVERSE STYLE FOUND IN CONTEMPORARY ART, WHILE BEING MINDFUL OF THE EXISTING COMMUNITY OF CAPITOL PARK. THE MUSEUM IS AN EXPERIENCE ITSELF, POSITIONED AROUND THE CONTINUOUS CENTRAL ATRIUM. A SEIRIES OF SPANNING STEPS GUIDES THE VISITOR THROGH THE ATRIUM ALONG THE FACADE. VISITORS WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE A UNIQUE VIEW OF THE ART WORK AND THE CITY OF DETROIT. MOCA WILL SERVE AS A PUBLIC SPACE AS WELL AS SPACE TO HOST EVENTS IN COLLABERATION WITH CAPITOL PARK.
THIS POLISH HILL PROPOSAL IS LOCATED ON A VACANT LOT INBETWEEN BRERETON AND DOBSON STREET. THIS PIECE OF LAND OFFERS MANY CONSTRAINTS AND CHALLENGES, ONE BEING THE DRAMATIC CHANGE IN ELEVATION FROM BRERETON TO DOBSON. HOWEVER, THIS SITE OFFERS THE OPPROTUNITY TO STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNITY IN POLISH HILL. BY INTRODUCING RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL UNITS.
IN THIS PROPOSAL WE WILL INCLUDE A CAFÉ, CHILDS DAYCARE, A HORTICULTURIST OFFICE ALONG WITH THREE HOUSING UNITS. THE DESIGN OF THE POLISH HILL DEVELOPMENT IS INTENDED TO REFELCT THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE IT IS LOCATED.
THROUGH RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS, I DEVELOPED THE DESIGN CONCEPTS OF GROWTH AND INTERSPACE. GROWTH INFLUENCED THE BUILDINGS VERTICAL EXPRESSION AND EXPOSED STAIRWAYS. CREATING A CENTRAL SPACE THAT CAN BE USED BY THE COMMUNITY INFLUENCED THE DECISION TO PROVIDE AN ACCESSIBLE INTERSTITAL SPACE WHERE COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN GATHER.
THE OBJECTIVE OF FIGURE GROUND WAS TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO ELEMENTS OF DESIGN AND FORMS OF EXPRESSION. EACH STUDENT RESEARCHED A SINGLE ARTWORK.STUDENTS CREATED A SERIES OF IMPROVISATIONS AND SEVERAL STUDY MODELS TO FURTHER UNDERSTAND THE INTENTION OF THE ARTIST.
“SMYRNA RUG” BY ANNI ALBERS WAS THE ARTWORK STUDIED IN THIS PROJECT. I WAS DRAWN TO THIS PIECE BECAUSE OF ITS STRUCTURE AND ORGANIZATION, WHILE ALSO INCLUDING ON THE ELEMENTS OF REPETITION, LINEARITY, SYMMETRY, POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE SPACE.

THE LIGHTSCOPE PROJECT OBJECTIVE WAS TO INTRODUCE LIGHT AND SHADOW AS A RESOURCE THAT CAN BE USED IN THE DESIGN PROCESS, AS WELL AS FOCUS ON THE INTERPLAY OF LIGHT AND FORM. IN MY DESIGN I CHOSE TO FOCUS ON THE IDEA OF LAYERING SHADOWS TO OBSERVE HOW SHADOWS INTERACT TO CREATE A
NEW MORE COMPLEX PATTERN.
MY FINAL DESIGN IS MADE FROM THREE RECTILINEAR FORMS. EACH FORM HAS A SIMPLE YET UNIQUE PATTERN. WHEN ALL THREE FORMS ARE STACKED A NEW MORE COMPLEX SHADOW IS CASTED INSIDE THE LIGHTSCOPE.
DINING INVITED STUDENTS TO DESIGN A STRUCTURE ON THE GROUNDS OF CRANBROOK ACADEMY OF ART. THIS STRUCTURE WILL SERVE AS A DINING PAVILLION WHERE MASTERS STUDENTS CAN MEET AND EAT AS A LARGE GROUP. STUDENTS CHOSE A DEPARTMENT FROM THE SCHOOL AND DESINGED A PAVILLION THAT CONNECTS TO THE DEPARTMENTS VALUES.THIS PAVILION WAS DESIGNED FOR CRANBROOKS ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT THAT FOCUSES ON CONTEMPORARY.
THE SITE ITSELF PRESENTED MANY CHALLENGES AND QUESTIONS THAT INFLUENCED MY DESIGN. THE DESIGN HAS TO CONSIDER THE SLIGHT CHANGE IN ELEVATION, THE LACK OF PRIVACY ON THE NORTH END OF THE SITE. I CHOSE TO INCORPORATE THE EXISTING PLAZA INTO MY DESIGN. THIS PLAZA PROVIDES AN IDEAL ENTRYWAY AND RAISES THE PAVILLION OF THE GROUNG.
IN THE POETRY FOUNDATION PROJECT STUDENTS USED SKILLS THEY LEARNED THROUGHOUT THEIR FIRST YEAR TO DESIGN A POETRY FOUNDATION IN HONOR OF DUDLEY RANDALL. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME STUDENTS HAVE BEEN ASKED TO DESIGN A FUNCTIONAL BUIDING WITH REALISTIC LIMITATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS.
STUDENTS BEGAN THIS PROJECT BY RESEARCHING DUDLEY RANDALL AND THE BROADSIDE LOTUS PRESS TO DEVELOP A CONCEPT THAT SUPPORTS RANDALLS VALUES.
STUDENTS USED SKILLS THEY LEARNED IN THE PRECEDENT ANALYSIS TO DIAGRAM THE SITE AND THE SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOOD. ONCE STUDENTS HAD A STRONG DESIGN CONCEPT AND APPROACH THEY BEGAN BASIC FORM EXPLORATION. TO FURTHER DEVELOP THEIR DESIGN STUDENTS BEGAN IMPLEMENTING THE BUILDINGS PROGRAM TO FINALIZE THEIR DESIGN. TO REPRESENT THEIR DESIGN STUDENTS WERE ENCOURAGED TO START USING A DIGITAL DRAFTING SOFTWARE TO CREATE THEIR BUILDING DRAWINGS AND RENDERS. THIS PROJECT STRENGTHEND STUDENTS CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT, DIGTAL DESIGN AND REPRESENTATION SKILLS.
