Welcome to the November issue, where we take a look at both wheeled goods (page 20) and the world of Nursery Furniture (page 34). We also shine the spotlight onto products that are available within the pregnancy & maternity sector (page 60) and entertainers/ playmats (page 64).
Last month we saw the doors to the Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair close for another year – and wow, what a show! With exhibitors happily showcasing the very best that is available within our industry within five show halls – we can confidently say –what a way to show!
With so many leading nursery brands all under one roof, all happily exhibiting alongside new companies showcasing for the first time – it certainly impressed pretty much everyone who attended.
This year, while walking the halls, I did feel that brands are becoming more focussed on sustainability and adding eco-friendly touches to their ranges, with (as an example) Maxi-Cosi presenting their new range of products that use recycled bottles for their fabrics, Joie launching their new Cycle range and CuddleCo presenting their Aria Rattan Furniture Range.
We also saw quite a few new product launches, as an example, BabyStyle unveiled the new Orion Oyster3, the forthcoming Oyster 4-in-1 Highchair and also new on-trend furniture additions to the Charnwood range. UPPAbaby launched their new MINU V2 stroller, iCandy showcased the new iCandy Halo child car safety seat range, Chicco highlighted the newly launched (suitable from birth to 12 years) Bi-Seat Air i-Size car seat, Babymore showcased their new room sets, CuddleCo had an impressive 11 (yes
11) new furniture collections on display, Cozy N Safe launched their new i-Size version of the popular Comet together with their newest innovation - the Avalon i-Size infant carrier. Graco presented new sleeptime solutions - including their latest travel cot – FoldLite, while Red Kite proudly demonstrated their stunning new compact stroller - The Push Me Koko. My Babiie introduced their latest pushchair, Jane were delighted to introduce their new car seat iTourer (featuring an LED electronic safety system) and for Joie was the soon-to-launch i-Spin XL (a new, multi-age spinning seat from the Signature range from birth to 12). Over on the Venicci stand visitors had the opportunity to take a look at their latest (BANTA award winning) and newly launched furniture room sets.
Over on the Dorel stand visitors were introduced a whole host of newness from Maxi-Cosi (from car seats to furniture!), while Cybex had visitors wanting to be a ‘rock star’ with their latest Rockstar Collection by Alec Voelkel and Ergobaby proudly launched their latest 3in1 bouncer Evolve. Can I apologise for all those missing here, there was so much to see this year – this is just a small extract of what was on display!
Fortunately, this month you will find our review of the show starting over on page 46, with Pramland’s John Barker bringing you his first of two articles (page 44) giving his viewpoint on the show and over on page 31 Online4Baby’s Managing Director Christy Foster also gives us her highlights.
Harrogate is also the home to the BANTAS – as a proud sponsor of these awards, can we say a huge congratulations to all the winners (highlighted opposite) and also to the winners of the Concept & Innovation Awards (you can find further details of the winners by turning to page 66).

Dr. Louis Mittoni, CEO and Managing Director of Toys“R”Us ANZ, the exclusive license partner for Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us in Australia and the UK said: “This important event is an acknowledgment of our devotion to the Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us brands, and testimony to the fantastic working relationship with worldwide brand owner WHP Global.
“The momentum behind the Toys“R”Us brand and its return to key markets including the UK and United States has been phenomenal. We are in early innings for what customers can expect from both Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us as we head into 2023,” said Yehuda Shmidman, Chairman and CEO of WHP Global and Toys“R”Us.
Toys“R”Us UK launches with a massive range of products on the Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us flagship sites from more than 300 brands and is aiming to further enhance the customer experience with additional engaging content and product differentiation.
“Tailoring our successful Australian relaunch plan to the UK echoes the success of other e-commerce platform play businesses that have delivered growth and value due to their ability to quickly and cost effectively expand their software, processes, partner relationships and brands into new countries. Since Toys“R”Us’ return to Australia in June 2019, we have scaled quickly as customers returned to the muchloved brand and our e-commerce model has proven its success,” added Mittoni.
Mike Coogan, Marketing Director of Toys“R”Us UK, said: “It is a very exciting time for Babies“R”Us and Toys“R”Us and we cannot wait to reclaim our position with British shoppers as the premiere supplier of the very best toys, games, and babycare products for parents and children.”

Commenting on his appointment to Managing Director, Ieuan Rowell, said: “It’s been great working with Fran over the past few years, helping Ickle Bubba become such a successful brand in the Nursery market. Whilst leading the finance function has been part of this, I’ve already built some great
relationships with our suppliers and customers, as well as being involved in the digital and marketing arena. I’m so proud of where the team has already got us to and am really energised to now lead the business into the next phase of delivery of our strategic vision.”

East Coast Nursery support Air Ambulance
As a proud supporter East Coast Nursery funds essential paediatric harnesses.
East Anglian Air Ambulance provides hospital level care for people whose lives are at risk from accident or injury delivering a portable A&E unit to patients, at the point they need it most. The charity receives no government funding and relies solely on the general public to raise the £17m it needs each year.
East Coast Nursery is a proud, long term supporter of the charity and has recently funded a set of 4 paediatric harnesses to help aid the safe transfer of babies and young children during flight. Only the most seriously ill children are transferred by helicopter, perhaps having suffered major trauma or cardiac arrest. The harnesses will help secure children safely for flight whilst offering the freedom for ongoing treatment to take place until they reach the hospital. This gives them the best chance for a positive outcome.

Sales surge for M&P despite cost of living challenge for consumers
Mamas & Papas, one of the leading high street nursery brands, said continued expansion of its UK retail space was driving strong sales growth despite a challenging environment for consumers.
The group, which designs, wholesales and retails nursery and baby products, increased revenues 17% in the six months to September. It opened 10 new concessions under its strategic partnership with retailer Next in the same period, with a further three to follow in H2 alongside three new concessions with Marks & Spencer.
Sales at its online business also grew quickly despite its focus on new physical space, which it said demonstrated the demand for its brand as well as the resilience of the sector.
The Group posted sales of £126m in its last full financial year ended 27th March 2022, up 35% on the previous year. Full year profits increased to £11m (ebitda) and £6.8m (PBT).
Mamas & Papas said it was also expanding its range of travel systems, nursery furniture
and children’s clothing, with an increased focus on entry-level price points.
Mark Saunders, Chief Executive Officer of Mamas & Papas, said: “Whilst there are undoubtedly challenges from the continuing cost of living crisis and emerging economic downturn, the nursery products market has always proven its resilience due to being far less discretionary than other non-food retail sectors.
“Combined with our momentum in the market and the loyalty of our customers, this is giving us confidence to continue investing in our garowth strategy, including our strategic partnerships with Next and Marks & Spencer, as well as investing in our communities and colleagues through our ESG agenda.”
He added: “Whether it’s through our website or in-store, our goal is to become the most accessible nursery brand with an unrivalled commitment to our customers.”
Earlier this year, Mamas & Papas introduced a new circularity strategy to help reduce the amount of clothing sent to landfill each year, including a new store-based take-back scheme under its partnership with charity Oxfam.
Enesco are delighted to announce some significant changes to their UK and European sales team further strengthening their mission to offer the best service to their customers around the globe.

Signs of growth
Little Angels began as a tiny bean - much like a baby - selling just 2-3 brands, in a small shop, with only one member of staff. But from those humble beginnings, with the right loving care and attention, Little Angels soon began to grow its wings, moving twice due to the expansion of the business. Nursery Today had the pleasure to catch up with owner Kelly Carter to find out more.
Can you tell us a little about Little Angels? What was the inspiration behind opening your doors?
Little Angels is a family-run one-stopshop for everything you need to support a growing family. We primarily sell pushchairs, prams, strollers and car seats, but online we also sell everything else a baby needs, such as nursery furniture, toys and mealtime and bathtime products.
The inspiration came when I had my second child and found I was
struggling to get all the information I needed from the shops I visited.
The lack of parenting information in these stores gave me the idea and the drive to open my own shop, providing products as well as informative, helpful advice on some of the most important purchases parents will ever buy.
Since then, it appears you rapidly outgrew your premises, what was the decision behind relocating from Ilkeston to Radford?
I found a bigger store, in a fantastic location with great parking.
Do you offer the same items online as you do instore?
Yes, but obviously we have a lot more stock on our website than we have on the shop floor.
Now in your eighth year of trading as Little Angels, have you run any in-store events or promotions to celebrate your third birthday at the Radford store?
The third birthday offers are up and running, until Sunday, November 27, inclusive of Black Friday, opening 10am-4pm on weekdays and Sundays and 10am-5pm on Saturdays.
The event will offer savings on many ranges of pushchairs, meaning shoppers could save up to £350 on some standard priced travel systems in-store. Representatives from leading suppliers will also be on hand to give advice, with goodie bags and refreshments to celebrate.
Since opening, what has been your largest challenge and also your biggest success?
The biggest challenge has been
finding the right staff, but I have now found an absolutely amazing team I am happy with. I’m also dyslexic, but I embrace it and I joke about it. If you take the awkwardness out of the situation, you have already got past the first hurdle. I just take a little longer to work things out.
The biggest success is the business in general - I never thought I’d accomplish anything I’ve accomplished.
You say you have gone from £100,000-a-year turnover upon launching, to a multi-million-pound business. How has this been achieved?
Hard work, dedication and an amazing team.
Has the level of your customer service and social media activity played a part in this growth?
I would say my customer service has played the biggest part in it, because a lot of our customers have been referred by other people. We have not really been present on social media, so we have kind of done it the oldfashioned way, though we will be
adding to our social media presence.
Do you have a particular product category where you view yourselves as specialists in your field of expertise?
We are specialists in pushchairs and car seats. My motto is ‘whether you are coming to buy a £100 pushchair or a £1,500 pushchair, customers will still get the same service’.
How and why are nursery brands important to your business?
Putting the supplier to the side, using pushchairs as an example, the product is extremely important for the parents more than anything - it gets them from A to B, offers them flexibility and makes their own lives more comfortable by having a pushchair. The brands are great, because people love a trusted brand, which I completely understand.
Pushchairs to new parents mean everything - they are putting the most precious thing in the world in it and it’s helping them get around.
Are you experiencing a difference in the way your customers are currently shopping for nursery items?
We are finding a little bit of an increase in interest in more reasonably priced pushchairs. We are doing our best to find quality at the best price, but we do like to cover all aspects of the
spectrum - from best-priced to mid-range to high-end.
People are being a lot more savvy with their money - that’s understandable, even I am.
Do you feel that your customers are researching more online and have a better understanding of what they require when visiting your store?
Yes, customers are definitely researching the products online - I would probably say about 90 per cent of my customers, but they are coming in quite confident.
However, you can never get a good feel of a product when you are looking at so many different varieties. When it comes to the pushchair industry, it’s extremely important for them to come in and physically see something, because the majority of the time they will buy something different.
Is there a particular category that you feel enables you to upsell?
No, because I don’t upsell - I give customers what they are asking for.
How do you keep abreast of new product launches or current consumer trends?
We just keep an eye on what’s on the market, and attend shows like Harrogate, and can always see what people are researching on Google.
Did you attend Harrogate this year
and if so, why is this important to you and your business?
As my son was poorly, my husband did. It’s important to see what the new products are that are being released, and the prices. It’s so important for shops to go because they get deals with suppliers for bulk buys.
If you did attend did you find any new to onboard any news brands or products that you saw?
Yes, we ordered lots.
How important is your website and social media to your business?
They are extremely important. We do get a lot of sales through the website
and obviously, people can just look at the website in the comfort of their own home and purchase products.
Finally, are there any exciting plans on the horizon that you would like to share with Nursery Today readers?
We are expanding the shop! It’s going to be ginormous. It’s currently 5,000 sq ft, and we will eventually have 15,000sq ft. We will be able to stock more nursery furniture.
Winning with Amazon
Etopia’s Managing Director Asha Bhalsod takes a closer look at the Hybrid Model when managing Amazon.
Historically, brands have assumed that the best strategy for managing Amazon is either through Vendor Central or Seller Central.
With market conditions turned on its head, and lines blurred between the two strategies, there’s no single route to market if you want to win with Amazon. A sound Amazon retail model is a hybrid one.
What is the Hybrid Model?
Managing Director, Asha BhalsodThe Hybrid Model is a concept that’s been around for many years and through it, brands are able to enjoy the best of both the Vendor and Seller Central worlds. While Amazon Vendors have lower fees and access to more sophisticated tools, Amazon Sellers are able to enjoy more analytics, margins and control. Each platform has their mutually exclusive advantages. Yes, brands will have a variety of options available to them, both practically and strategically. However, you must meet the criteria of being a vendor on Amazon, and you also need to manage a Seller Central account full time.
Why should brands adopt a Hybrid Model?
As a global marketplace, you’ll have a great tool at your disposal in challenging situations with Amazon. That doesn’t mean
adopting a Hybrid Model will be plain sailing – the biggest challenge might actually be your relationship with Amazon.
In recent years Vendors have been scrutinised more and Amazon has made a definitive shift towards chasing profitability. “Net PPM” or Net Pure Product Margin has become a buzz word (or swear word depending on which side you’re on) and needs to be tracked monthly. In fact, Net PPM should almost be fixed! Amazon will constantly evaluate their Net PPM against your products. The risk of Amazon not making enough margin from your brand and its products could lead to detrimental consequences for your business. And at the end of the year, when those margins are unmet, trading term negotiations get very tough…
Trading Terms
Amazon is renowned for its tough stance when it comes to trading terms. Through Seller Central, there are no trading terms negotiations, and if you don’t have access to a Vendor Manager, your agreements will auto-renew. With no one to fight on your behalf, incremental increases will go unchallenged, and Amazon will push to grow its profit margins. Negotiations must be skilfully handled, taking a comprehensive approach to your business,
and considering both current and future activities across the board.
If Amazon demands an increase in terms, this no doubt poses profitability challenges. If negotiations are “stuck” and there is no “win-win” solution, transitioning to a Hybrid Model will improve your control of business profitability.
CRAP lines – it’s not a swear word!
CRAP = cannot return a profit… If a product is popular but unprofitable (for Amazon), Amazon will not store it in any of their warehouses, and they’ll stop reordering the line. Unprofitable lines will simply get CRAP’ed. The most common reasons for CRAP status are price pressure and high shipping/storage costs in relation to the value of the goods. You can funnel the CRAP list lines through your Seller Central account – it’s all about taking the relevant lines that are not on Vendor Central and putting them on Seller Central.
Seller Central and Vendor Central are two completely different teams within Amazon. Since hybrid selling compromises Amazon’s ability to control the end-to-end customer experience, Amazon is not a fan of the Hybrid Model. The Born to Run programme was conceived a few years ago, and rumour has it that it was Amazon’s attempt at
discouraging a cross-over to the Hybrid Model. However, The Born to Run programme is a great tactic to use to launch new ranges through Vendor Central.
Importance of logistics strategy when defining these models
When assessing if the Hybrid Model is suitable for your business, logistics will play a pivotal role in decision-making. Through Seller Central, there are two methods of fulfilment, FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon) or
FBM (Fulfilment by Merchant). Although FBA can be expensive, the service is substantially more comprehensive. Amazon will pick, pack, ship, handle returns and deal with customer queries. Your sole responsibility is to send the items to Amazon. FBM is a little different. You sell directly to customers through the Amazon platform, and all logistics and enquiries resides with you as a brand. You will however be paying reduced fees.
So, if you opt to move to a Hybrid Model, you’ll have to consider what the correct
logistics strategy is by analysing profitability and capabilities.
Importance of resources to managing these models.
Setting up a Hybrid Model is time consuming, and it’s vital to have adequate internal logistics in place. You need the right people in the right jobs across the business to manage your Amazon account. And that ranges from Account Management to data analytics to strategy creation and implementation.
Amazon is not just a sales account or a
marketing platform. It can’t be treated as just another marketplace to sell your goods on. Amazon must be forefront and centre when planning out your e-Commerce strategy as a whole. Sales and marketing strategies need to be evolved continually to make room for new ways of working, the Amazon way. You need an Amazon mindset to fuel and inspire your Amazon-first approach.

Best wheel
The wheeled goods category is one which continues to show innovation and keep pace with current consumer trendswhether it be the style of chassis, fabric colourways, size or weight. The demand within this sector for new products doesn’t appear to be decreasing and although some may feel there might be too much choice, there is clearly a place for each brand or new entrant represented.
However, with so much choice now available is this a category which might be deemed as over-saturated with products that are available, or is there sufficient room for the various brands on offer? “A well-known and trusted brand gives consumers confidence in the quality of their purchase, so even with new launch items consumers will trust brand names they know and have heard via recommendations or reviews but there will always be room for new brands to enter the marketplace.” Said Joie’s Head of Product Management Damon Marriot, with Baby Jogger’s Sales Manager, Christopher Grech-Cini in agreement adding: “It is becoming a populated category but I feel there is always room for more competitors, because in the end its healthy competition that drives the innovation which in turn potentially opens up new categories.” For independent retailer Pramland, John Barker feels it is down to how you manage your stock in-store with him commenting “Every brand has a gravity fold or airline approved stroller and the market is awash with them. It’s down to us stores to select a small number and simply stick to them, ensuring we have the various price points covered.”
Trends within this category are continually changing with parents seeking something that they are not only proud to push, but many are also looking for additional functions, for example, how the product folds, the weight, travel systems that have adaptability with infant carriers (of a different brand) enabling a ‘mix and match’ approach, lie flat capability, rearward or forward-facing seating options - all of which must also reflect a level of style. The great news here is that brands are definitely up to speed and enhance their ranges to reflect this and there is no denying that this category has demonstrated great growth and innovation. We asked Damon what he feels is the main driver in this sector? “Aesthetic appeal is a key factor for consumers as they will be seen out and about with their choice of wheels – the product becomes an extension of them so it’s important that it reflects their style as an individual. Combine great looks with ease of use and high standards of innovation, and you will have a winning formula.”
While on the subject of innovation and being on the frontline when talking to customers, we also asked John if he felt we have sufficient innovation within the wheeled goods category? “Absolutely! I also say to customers, there’s only so much you can do with a seat and four wheels. For me strollers that fold in one piece are definitely more popular and more and more brands seem to be heading in that direction.”
Are we experiencing any key trends that brands are monitoring and looking closely at within their current ranges? “Eco friendly is a key factor to product development at the moment and with brands it is essential that the whole production chain is tied together to offer a sustainable and environmentally beneficial product to the consumer.” Said Damon. “With this in mind we recently launched the “pure joy” campaign to further illustrate our production facilities eco credentials for our entire product range. This has also led us to take it a step further with our ‘cycle collection’ launch which uses recycled plastic bottles for the creation of the soft goods, all with great style and comfort combined into a greener end product.”
However, although this product sector is experiencing continual growth consumers are also now coping with the cost of living crisis. Has this been reflected in how parents are spending within this category? Christopher feels that although this might not be the case just yet, it is on the horizon commenting “We are not experiencing a shift just yet, however we are all still to feel the pinch from our winter bills which are due in the coming months and therefore we’ve yet to see the real effect this has on consumers purchasing decisions.” Adding “However price doesn’t always equal value, and some consumers are still likely to see value in the durability of a product.” What about on the retail front? To find out we also asked John for his thoughts with him commenting “I haven’t seen a significant swing in what customers are buying. If anything, they tend to leave the wardrobe off their shopping list in order to still buy the pram of their dreams. I guess it’s due to it being the “in your face Instagram” item many parents want.”

Online4baby has had a positive and winning 2022, with the Managing Director Christy Foster being crowned one of five North West Regional winners of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 Awards. It didn’t stop there, as Online4baby then went on to become finalists and winners at the Oldham Business Awards 2022, in the Over £5million Company category! If that wasn’t enough of a celebration, we then became finalists at the ECMOD awards and found ourselves ranked 7th in The Ward Hadaway Northwest Fastest 50 for 2022. What an outstanding year this has been for us!
and brands return who haven’t attended in many years. An aspect of the recession is that product development has slowed down, however at Harrogate there were lots of brands introducing and showcasing new products. Stands which caught our eye and were showing new and exciting products were Egg, Silvercross, iCandy and Venicci, showing product innovation. CuddleCo had an impressive stand this year. Their colour palettes, stepping into a much more contemporary styling with moody tones was a nice change, and hopefully
Retail matters
After attending the award ceremonies, myself and Jenny Hughes, Head of Brand and Product Development, visited the Harrogate Baby Show. It was amazing to see all the different brands there and see the industry coming together. The show was fully attended, which was great to see, as well as seeing some familiar faces
customers will embrace the move away from the more traditional styles. Mini-Uno had a great range of stylish, modern products, which were at a competitive price, I do believe they will also do well this upcoming year.
Harrogate will continue to be a successful show and we look forward

to attending again next time, seeing new and upcoming brands and all the latest products.
From our time at Harrogate, it appears that brands are looking at trends and implementing new products which is exciting for the industry. Trends coming through are Greens, Blues and Teals, and Online4baby are looking for brands which follow these trends. The biggest revival out there is the Nursery Sector, bedroom furniture and cots and cot beds. Fashion has changed to a much more Scandinavian look and feel. Where customers had previously wanted whites and greys, we have now seen that they are exploring the natural woods, dark woods and bold colours. We are not sure how the sales will go with these products as they are new to us, however, they sure do look great in the photography! Over the next few months when we start to get these items into stock, we will monitor the sales. We could find that customers do revert to the traditional sleigh cot beds and white furniture, but nobody can deny that the bold is eye catching!
As much fun as we’ve had out and about, the office has definitely been a bit more challenging. There is no avoiding the economic factors in play here. With the downturn in the dollar rate, rising interest rates, everyone’s pockets are a bit more stretched, and purchases are being considered a little bit more. Value for money is more important now than it has ever been for our customers, and we intend to do what we always do, which is to give them value and quality, and of course margin is more important than ever too. Sometimes sales are lost, which
is hard, but in order to be successful you need to be profitable, and we always keep that in mind.
On a changing note, for Online4baby, we have always been an in-stock company which is the best way to go for a business. However, we are pivoting into a different business with luxury in mind. We have always carried a lot of stock, but we have decided to make an option for drop shipping, which means we can stock these luxury brands and brands that we don’t currently hold. We need to regroup and grow, and the only way to grow is to adapt, and this is the beginning of how we are going to execute that.
Online4baby are currently planning for 2023 and it’s nearly here. We are not far off peak which is really exciting, and what we have planned for 2023 is about brand, sustainability, and of course quality. It is all about ‘Power to Parents’.
Online4Baby are delighted to be a Which?
Recommended Provider for Baby & Child Retailers 2021.

Room to grow
The nursery is a focal point for many new parents and a joy to not only furnish, but also accessorise. Furniture for the nursery is a staple product category for many Nursery retailers and we are fortunate that we have a great selection of products to choose from (which was demonstrated at Harrogate 2022, brands are notably stepping up and enhancing or adding to their current ranges).
However, with the current ‘cost of living’ crisis, are expectant parents looking more closely at price vs. function when looking at nursery furniture? “Price is definitely something parents will now be more conscious of when shopping for nursery furniture. But a lower price point doesn’t have to mean limited function.” Said CuddleCo’s Head of Product, Rob Chanbers. “Our new Nola range is a good example of a moderately priced nursery set that also has good functionality and is tested to the highest safety standards. The 3 piece set has a price point of £389, which is reactive to the current climate and ensures parents can still have a safe and comfortable place for their new arrival to sleep, along with nursery storage solutions that can be used throughout their child’s early years.”
Independent retailer Jolly Tots feels there has been a definite shift in buying behaviour within their store with Managing Director, Lorretta Owen commenting “We are finding that parents are perhaps a little more cautious when making purchases in comparison to previous years. They are definitely weighing up the longevity of items and even whether they are needed at all. We are at present less of a call for “baby” style nursery furniture as parents are often planning for it to be used for as long as possible.”
Rob would agree, adding “We think adaptability and longevity have always been important to parents, along with functionality. All of our cot beds are created with this in mind, adjusting to suit babies’ different development stages with 3 mattress base positions and the ability to convert into a toddler bed or day bed when their ready.
“Many of our ranges have a life beyond the nursery. By ensuring a dresser changer, for example, can be transformed into a stylish set of chests of drawers by simply removing the changing top. Wardrobes adapt to growth spurts, and as sleepsuits become school uniforms, removable hanging rails mean a wardrobe can easily be converted to full-height hanging.”
Trends have always played a pivotal role in many nursery categories, are we seeing this also within the nursery furniture sector? Although white furniture/room sets have always proven popular, is this a colourway that is still dominant? Does social media play a role also when we look at current trends? Talking about social media Lorretta feels this is crucial in this sector. “Social media is 100 percent effective for nursery furniture or gives parents a look at how to style the nursery. Who doesn’t love looking at posts where everything is perfect? If it’s popular on social media then we find that customers come in asking for it and that is exactly the look that they want.” Lorretta also feels that when we look at style and colourways for Jolly Tots their “customers are loving the neutrals and wicker furniture that appear to be currently very popular on the socials.” Babymore’s Managing Director, Richard Chen also feels social media is important within this category stating “Social media is important to interact with the consumer,
time, and as people become braver with its use in their homes, it has now launched into the world of nursery. From subtle flashes on handles to bolder pieces like Rafi that combine a soft matte black finish with warm wood tones for a contemporary nursery. This is a trend that we predict will grow in popularity and be embraced in the nursery.
“Natural, sustainable materials are also becoming increasingly important as consumers become more eco-conscious. Our new range Aria is made from Rattan - a strong, durable and beautiful natural material. That’s harvested seasonally and grows back quickly. It combines traditional weaving techniques with a contemporary design to create a timeless range for the modern nursery.”
While on the subject of sustainability and eco credentials – how important is this within this product category? “This is definitely important.” States Richard. “For us at Babymore, not only is product safety the priorities of our R&D, but also eco credential applies to material, production and
interiors have been around for a long time, and as people become braver with its use in their homes, it has now launched into the world of nursery. From subtle flashes on handles to bolder pieces like Rafi that combine a soft matte black finish with warm wood tones for a contemporary nursery. This is a trend that we predict will grow in popularity and be embraced in the nursery.” Rob Chambers, CuddleCo
where pricing, style, quality or features that consumer like in a product are demonstrated. This is perhaps more true with new products. It is also important that brands gain feedback from retailers and the public to keep abreast of continually changing trends.”
With regards to colourways and style, Rob gives his view across a spectrum of home interior styling. “In terms of colour, white will always be popular, but we’re seeing an increased demand for braver, more eye-catching ranges inspired by the wider world of fashion and interiors. We created Nola, our colour drench range, with this in mind. A simple, modern, affordable alternative to the more traditional sets that adds a pop of colour to any room. Available in soft blush, sage green and flint blue, these playful tones perfectly complement many interiors.
“Black interiors have been around for a long
packaging. Recyclable materials and longevity of products are now a strong priority beside style and common features.” CuddleCo’s Richard would agree adding “The new generation of parents is more eco-conscious than ever before, impacting their shopping habits and choices. The demand for sustainable nursery furniture is only going to grow, and unfortunately, there isn’t much choice out there at the moment, limiting parents’ options.”
Finally, we asked Lorretta what are the benefits to her business by stocking nursery furniture instore compared to simply viewing via a website? “In my honest opinion you can’t beat the experience of seeing something in the “flesh”. This is especially true of furniture. You are able to walk around the furniture. close the drawers and look at things in close up. Size is something that can surprise a customer in comparison to viewing it on a website.”
Nursery furniture is big business. Parents will continue to need somewhere for baby to sleep, solutions for storage and also items that accessorise the nursery.

Our Best Show Yet
After months of hard work, anticipation, and endless cups of coffee, we can’t believe Harrogate International Nursery Fair is over. What a show!
The first thing we want to say is thank you to all our loyal customers and the many new faces who came to visit us at our stand. We loved chatting with you all and finally having the chance to share with you what we’ve been working on.
The Big Reveal
Now we’re going to let you in on a little secret. On the run-up to Harrogate, we were apprehensive about how our new ranges would be received. But thanks to you, we can now say that the hard work was worth it. We were completely humbled by the reaction everything received and can honestly say the show wouldn’t have been a success without you.
That’s a Wrap!
I think we can speak for everyone when we say from start to finish, the show was incredible! The atmosphere was amazing, and everyone was on top form. It was fantastic to see so much newness and innovation across the five halls.
Like many others, Harrogate 2022 was particularly special for us. It was a milestone, with it being our biggest launch ever, and the moment of truth all rolled into one. This launch allowed us to show who we truly are and has set the tone for everything else we do next.
Our main ambition for this launch was to deliver something for everyone, no matter your style, space or budget. We hope you’ll all agree that we managed to do just that.
Elegant and Ecological Nursery Favourites
Aria was a favourite for many, offering sustainable style for the nursery. We were so pleased to be highly commended in the BANTAs Best New Product category for the Aria Rattan 7 Piece Nursery Set.
This fashionable rattan range includes all the
nursery essentials parents need, such as a crib and changer, as well as complementary accessories like a wall shelf ideal for books and toys and a round, baby-safe mirror. The Aria nursery pieces are handmade with a natural grass material called rattan, making it an ecological choice for the nursery.
Affordable, Stylish Nursery Furniture
The main star of the show for us was Nola. Its attractive price point and bold use of colour were loved by many. The 3-piece furniture set is the perfect option for small-room living. Both the changing unit and clothes rail showcase an open design ideal for making smaller nurseries appear more spacious.
Without Risk There’s No Reward
Rafi was our most daring project, with its charcoal black colourway allowing us to bring trend and style to the nursery. It was great to receive such brilliant feedback on this fashion-forward range.
Everything, down from Rafi’s two-tone colourway to the leather, tactile handles and subtle linear detailing, was well thought out during the design process. These decorative elements, combined with Rafi’s functionality, tick all the boxes for parents wanting to kit out their baby’s bedroom.
A Picture-Perfect Modern Classic
Providing a modern take on traditional nursery styles was Ada, combining beautiful soft ash tones and sleek, contemporary lines to make it an easy fit for any decor or interior.
Another contemporary take on a nursery classic is
the Etta Nursing Chair. This nursing chair gives the traditional nursery rocker a stylish update and is available in several trendy colourways, all of which were a hit!
Here’s to 2023
After a stellar launch at Harrogate, we can’t wait to see our new ranges in your stores and online. If you’re new to CuddleCo or simply have a question for our sales team, you can email us at sales@cuddleco.co.uk.
But for now, you’ll catch us planning for Harrogate 2023!

The Panama furniture collection has a mid-century modern style, with a mix of white and wood finishes, making it a beautiful addition to your new nursery.
The cot bed was designed so that the fittings don’t show on the ends, for a clean, contemporary look. It converts from cot to toddler bed, and has three adjustable base heights, making it easier to pick up your newborn and prevent escape attempts as they grow!
The dresser includes three large drawers for nappy changing essentials, and the changing top is removable, making it a practical and long-lasting addition to your baby’s room.

Brand values with Gaia Baby
For those that don’t know Gaia Baby can you tell us a little about the initial concept behind the brand?
Gaia Baby was founded in 2018 by Joanne (O’Grady) and myself, supported by our respective partners, Peter (Cahill) and Sarah (Millergill). Our journey as parents to 7 kids, combined with experience of largescale and start-up businesses, inspired us to set off on our own journey and create Gaia Baby. In Greek mythology, Gaia was the original Mother Earth; we wanted to have sustainability at the heart of everything we do so the name really resonates with the brand values.
From the outset, Joanne and I had a real passion to make Nursery Furniture exciting again. In a category dominated by own label and mass products we felt that we could really bring some new life into a dull market segment. We know that Brands enhance a category when they innovate, are beautiful and made with passion and quality. Our aim was to bring these values back into the Nursery Furniture. Five years on we are proud to say that we are now a multi-award winning brand with a presence in all leading retailers.
Why is Brand important in the Nursery Furniture category?
The Nursery Furniture category had become very “tired”, dominated by low price/quality “me-too” products, with very low levels of innovation. For example, most cot beds all look the same with price being the only consumer decision. By focusing on unique, design led products with true innovation and longevity, Gaia Baby have provided the consumer a brand with values that they are willing to pay for. We have proven that people will pay more for branded furniture as long as you back up the price point with innovation, sustainability, design and longevity.
Can you explain in a bit more detail how you
combine great looks with longevity and value for money?
Design is really important in nursery furniture but the customer also demands longevity for the investment. Innovation also has to demonstrate value to the consumer. All our products are designed with this in mind; you need only purchase one product to cover multiple stages over several years and different generations and uses. For example, our beautiful nursing chairs offer every feature to make it the perfect ‘feeding chair’ but it’s also designed to become a fantastic “lounge chair” that will be used for many years. Our Serena Cot bed (now been awarded a Global Patent!) is a stunning product but also represents amazing value, being a single purchase that starts as a bedside crib right through to a bed that can be used up to 7 years. Combining all these values in every item we make is our commitment to our customers and something we are very proud of. Why is sustainability and ethical sourcing a hot topic?
When we first conceived the idea for Gaia Baby, we knew sustainability would be at the heart of everything we did. We didn’t know of any other nursery brands that held the same focus on the environment as we did. We began with uniquely sustainable foundations and over the past 5 years we have focused daily on our environmental footprint, constantly evaluating our materials and our manufacturing. We do this so we can honestly say that we are at the top of the sustainability curve. Our starting point is ensuring that every single raw material we use is supplied with authentication certificates so we can be assured our suppliers adhere to the highest standards. For example, all the wood we use is FSC certified and we own full “chain of custody” for every tree used to make our furniture. We have also put a lot of research into our choice of materials eg. Using Ash wood for the Hera collection
due
Where do you get your inspiration in creating new products?
We are one of a handful of UK/Ireland companies that are doing everything in house…namely, totally original designs that start on a sketch pad! We have just launched our new Hera collection which features the first totally original, wooden, bedside crib that has hit the market in the last 10 years. Our goal from the start was to make the “best in class” bedside crib that meant it had to have every feature, be made with the best and most sustainable materials, to look stunning, represent great value and also offer something totally new! This is obviously a big challenge but I think we cracked it! We are a family business who have built a brilliant team with a wealth of experience both as parents and product experts. We are proud to be a true innovator with all our inspiration coming from our amazing team. What’s next for Gaia Baby?
Firstly we are really hoping that 2023 brings a little stability to all of us. The last three years have been a challenge to say the least with Covid, Brexit, shipping/freight crisis, currency fluctuations and now a recession to contend with! I won’t even get into the Political challenges at home and overseas! We are really excited to be launching Gaia Baby into several new markets in 2023 and we will also continue to invest in our Newness. Our new Hera collection is our main focus for the upcoming months supporting our current and new retailer partners. Earlier this year, we have also launched into a totally new category with our stunning range of Baby Carriers. This has proven to be a huge success and we are aiming to develop in that category in 2023.

Glow Under Crib Light
A low level under-crib light, Glow allows parents to be able to see when going into the room to check on baby without the risk of waking them. It has a smart motion detector which turns on soft lights when parents approach the crib and automatically dim as they leave. It’s easy to install and is held in place with self-adhesive fastenings and the wires can be clipped under the crib to keep them safely out of the way.

Barking Mad
This month John Barker gives the first of a two part article taking an overview of his time at Harrogate Int. Nursery Fair 2022.
Hello everyone, I hope you are well and have finally recovered from Harrogate! If you haven’t, I’m not surprised - it was an amazing show and there’s so much to discuss my article this month will be split in to two, with the second part coming next month. So, without further deliberating let’s crack on. . .
DAY ONE
Day one started fairly subdued unfortunately, but that was selfinduced so I’ve got no one to blame but myself. A busy day was planned and things kicked off on Mamas & Papas. A few new colours here and there, a new addition to their home range and some fabulous new furniture – nothing dramatic but I don’t think anyone expected anything to out of the ordinary. Strong show offers and as always the M&P team gave me the warmest of welcomes. A real go to brand for me and I’m proud to say they are one of, if not my main, key account. Thanks M&P let’s hope 2023 can continue the success of 2022.
Leaving M&P and heading to my next appointment over on Ickle Bubba
meant a long walk. It was brilliant to see the size of the show and every stand I walked past looked wonderful. Well done everyone involved. On Ickle Bubba I found a HUGE range change. Not only did they show a new version of the popular Stomp which should please consumers looking for a value product with the Instagram factor, but they also introduced more new wheels! With some exclusive for us independents and lots of new home products Ickle Bubba should be patting themselves on the back for a highly successful Harrogate 2023.
My next appointment was an easy, short walk across the hall to see Cosatto. Many of you have seen most of Cosatto’s newness either at their roadshows or on your very own shopfloors. Off the main stand floor was a “secret room” and inside something VERY exciting for 2023! I have always loved Cosatto but do understand that some consumers find it a little “out there”. With what they showed for 2023 will this readdress that? – something for every shop-floor I’m sure. Finally, it was nice just to reconnect with the team and I look forward to continuing to build a relationship with this fun and lively brand.
Over on Dorel I was shown some clever new products for the car and some brilliantly simple and affordable products for the home. Their growing range of home items has become a real go to range for many parents.john@pramland.co.uk
Next appointment time, a quick shuffle off and I’d arrived at Cosy N Safe – If anyone at Harrogate got a glow up (something the youngsters say these days – or so JB Jnr tells me. He does have a habit of telling me certain words are cool just to try and embarrass me when I’m told I’ve said something wrong) it was the Cosy N Safe range. Wow! What a HUGE new range on show, with a car seat for EVERY need. It’s going to take time to digest all the seats but basically these guys are the masters of high quality at affordable prices and they should have a place on everyone’s shop floor. Not only do Cosy N Safe represent excellent quality and value but they are all, genuinely lovely guys and so welcoming!
My next appointment was with team Snuz. Nothing new here, after all we’ve had some cracking new products recently. Again, genuinely lovely people and so, so welcoming. A pleasure to deal with and they seem dedicated to resolving our issues re pricing. We’ve seen great successful with the brand since we re-introduced the range to the store and I’m hoping 2023 will continue to see this success.
After leaving Snuz it was time for an appointment with a brand I’ve not dealt with before, My Babiie –something new to me and not very me
at all, but we must remain impartial –after all I’m not buying for me! An interesting range of products that really tap into the thirst for social media champions like some lady off a Chelsea show? And another lady that pouts lots? It’s all very unfamiliar territory to me but I’m excited to be working with My Babiie and I know my customers are going to love it!
By this time the day was getting late and I have one more appointment left. Time to head to Bebecar! One brand that never fail to wow! Some fabulously crazy fabrics as expected and that parents will love. The new Wei (Hope I spelt it right!) – pronounced Way and not like the Nintendo Wii, impressed and is a real change in direction for Bebecar. I’m looking forward to offering customers something different from this legend of the industry. Always supporters of us independents, Bebecar are a wonderful brand to stock and I’m looking forward to 2023 as a stockist, once again. On a side note the Port and cheese was really tasty and I left in “high spirits”.
Day one ended with a few drinks and lovely meal thanks to Maxi-Cosi. I’d love to say I was sensible and went to bed early but that would be a lie!
DAY TWO
It will come as no surprise but Day 2
started subdued (don’t worry you’ll start to see a pattern forming here), but I couldn’t just sit around I had appointments to get to, and the first one being BabyMore.
BabyMore, is another relatively new brand for me as we only became a stockist in April. We’ve seen good success with their range of high quality, affordable furniture and I was looking forward to seeing what newness they had planned for 2023. With a very good, both quality and price wise furniture range heading to us next year and the lovely new Lux nursing chair BabyMore really do have some excellent products and they are a brand I can see are clearly going places!
Next appointment was over on
Dorel where I was shown some clever new products for the car and some brilliantly simple and affordable products for the home. Their growing range of home items has become a real go to range for many parents and I’m excited to see more of them soon. A new, two way stroller was also on display and that will clearly be a very popular item once it arrives on our shopfloors. Again, good promotional offers meant I was able to fill my boots with some great customer pleasers for extra margin. Thanks Dorel!
So there you go a day and half in a few hundred words - next month I’ll be running through the remainder of the show. Until then, I hope you are all busy and stay safe. See you next month for more Harrogate 2022!
If anyone at Harrogate got a glow up it was the Cosy N Safe range. Wow! What a HUGE new range on show, with a car seat for EVERY need.
Firmly back on the map!
This year Harrogate demonstrated it was firmly back on the Nursery map, with five halls full to the brim of exhibitors showcasing their product ranges.
With an additional hall opened due to demand and a new show layout offering a better flow than previous years, the show organisers had high hopes; if slight reservations due to the current UK political climate and the ongoing knock-on effect of the covid pandemic. However, the actual outcome was more positive than could have possibly been expected.
Adrian Sneyd, show organiser explains: “Exhibitor space was in high demand this year and at one point sold out resulting in the opening of an additional hall.
However, with the challenges faced by the UK in recent months; we – and many exhibitors – were hesitant as to whether the buyers would turn up with confidence. And they certainly did. Visitor numbers were up on last year – and buyers spent three days checking out new products and placing orders.”
Andy Crane of BabyStyle, one of the show’s biggest exhibitors, said: “We had a great show, maybe not record-breaking numbers – but actually much more sensible and considered ordering. The most positive part was that retailers seemed to have allowed much more time this year and were really engaged with looking at all the ranges and
newness that was on offer.
“I am delighted overall, we saw pretty much every customer and also every major that we deal with, some new customers but mainly existing loyal retailers. We also had eight international customers from as far as Uzbekistan to see our new offerings and business from outside the UK was also very successful. As always many other talks with other brands and a real sense of camaraderie from the whole trade.”
The team at Clevamama also felt positive as an exhibitor this year stating: “An incredible show, what a pleasure is was to be exhibiting at Harrogate Nursery Trade Fair to showcase to our retailers our latest products for a healthier, cleaner Nursery” said Lara Wilson, Business Development manager with Co-Founder Suzanne Browne adding: “Fabulous turn out, both the trade and retailers were clearly excited to be at the show. There was so much going on in all the halls with incredible offerings for baby products. We’re so delighted to have won the Best Nursery baby Product award for our ClevaPure Salt Lamp, we were over the moon!”
Independent Retailer Paul Stride’s Owner, Kevin Clarkson also had a positive time while visiting this year stating: “I think it was probably better than I expected. Certainly, I think last year we were still a bit euphoric coupled with nervousness coming out of Covid restrictions. This year I think both exhibitors and visitors alike were a bit more chilled and ready to do business with more newness on show.”
CuddleCo also returned to the event this year with their Managing Director, Marc Kelly commenting: “It exceeded our expectations. Everything from how busy the show was to the showmanship
across the five halls contributed to the brilliant atmosphere among the stands. It was great to be back at Harrogate and to finally be able to share our latest products. The excitement surrounding our new ranges was better than we could have imagined, and it really confirmed to myself and the team that all the hard work we’d put into the launch was worth it. We can’t wait for next year!”
Sam Tyack, Sales Director of Trixie, added: “I was very impressed with this year’s show. For a new brand launching into the UK & Irish markets, we were able to make connections with so many buyers and stores.”
Hauck were also impressed by this year’s event with Helen Robinson commenting: “The fair was very well organised, and we had a super location. Many thanks to everyone who made this event so great. The fact that we have already signed up for next year shows how satisfied we were with the fair.”
You’ll find over the following pages a great selection of products that were on display. Here’s to next year, so make sure you put the show dates in your diary: 15th to 17th October 2023.

retailer opinion
How was your visit to Harrogate this year?
Yes really good. It was an impressive show and I thought the stands were well presented and well laid out.
Did it reach your expectations?
I think it was probably better than I expected. Certainly I think last year we were still a bit euphoric coupled with nervousness coming out of Covid restrictions. This year I think both exhibitors and visitors alike were a bit more chilled and ready to do business with more newness on show.
Were there sufficient brands and new products on display?
Yes, it was a good size and I think the brands who didn’t attend are probably the ones to miss out. New products were certainly to be found from large and small exhibitors alike.
Did you take advantage of show only offers while in attendance?
Yes, every little bit helps, certainly on proven winners introducing new colours or variations for 2023. Some were a little stingy this year, but I think a combination just before the show of Putin and Liz Truss on the £ to $ rate probably stifled some in these uncertain times.
Was there a particular product that you found of interest?
Several in the car seat category alone. iCandy’s Halo concept I thought was good with some really simple solutions to everyday problems it really makes you wonder why they hadn’t been thought of before. But then again isn’t that the secret of all really good designs. Also on car seats newcomers to that market Thule showed their modular system which will probably be the easiest modular system to actually attach/detach the infant carrier on and off the base. The new Nuna Pipa Urbn was also an interesting concept with its no base Isofix fitting.
On wheels I thought the new iCandy Peach All Terrain was a winner and I can’t wait for this to arrive. The new 2023 versions of the Cybex wheels with a more luxurious carrycot and chassis updates will bring an uplift to their range along with a more consumer friendly splash of colour (rather than some of the way out colours endorsed by “celebrities” you have never heard of!).
Were you focussing on a particular nursery category while visiting this year?
Nothing in particular but certainly the furniture category was something I was interested in refreshing my offering. This was not a disappointment I am pleased to say. In fact, this is getting to be one of the most fought out sector of the market (just after airline approved compact strollers I would think). CuddleCo certainly upping their offering, Venicci entering the market coupled with the likes of O’Baby and Babymore there is plenty to choose from, along with other exhibitors who do furniture but didn’t show this side of their portfolio (e.g. Silver Cross).
Alongside furniture probably best to mention the Maxi Cosi Home range which is probably the most visually pleasing on the market currently, and generally well-priced at retail (maybe a little more margin at wholesale would be good).
Certainly the newer additions to this range certainly continue with this ethos and is becoming a very strong proposal. In fact their wood effect trims must be becoming one of the most copied styling accents looking at other manufacturers!
Did you find a new product that you feel will offer your customers something new and might become the next must have?
I am becoming too long in the tooth to get excited these days. Just ask John B! Who told Passport control at Humberside Airport he was my carer! I will get him back!
What about trends, did you spot anything you feel will set the tone for the following 12 months – colourways, fabrics, etc.? It looks as if we might be going back into colours again (all be it muted tones) rather than just black or grey as has been the case over the last few years.
Living the high life with BabyStyle
There were plenty of exciting new products and fashions available on the BabyStyle stand at Harrogate this year, but when asked to nominate their Star of the Show they pointed toward the forthcoming Oyster 4-in-1 Highchair. Retailer feedback was very positive, especially about the long life of the product with it being suitable from 6 months to 3 years old, and the versatility of the different combinations means it could take the place of 2 or 3 other products in the home. With purse-strings being tightened this multi-function home accessory could be a big hit in 2023.
Nursery Today caught up with Independent Retailer Paul Stride’s owner Kevin Clarkson to gain his thoughts on Harrogate 2022.Chrome frames have waned so fast that we cannot give them away currently, and I think every manufacturer has “copied” the Cybex Priam with its Black/Rose Gold combination that it has to be a matter of time (12-18m?) before this will move on also. For you, what was your key highlight of the event? As ever having a natter and catching up with friends in the “Nursery” family.

Marc Kelly
MANAGING DIRECTOR, CUDDLECOHow did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor?
Well, firstly, it exceeded our expectations. Everything from how busy the show was to the showmanship across the five halls contributed to the brilliant atmosphere among the stands.
It was great to be back at Harrogate and to finally be able to share our latest products. The excitement surrounding our new ranges was better than we could have imagined, and it really confirmed to myself and the team that all the hard work we’d put into the launch was worth it. We can’t wait for next year!
What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
The most exciting yet scariest thing about our stand was that everything was new (apart from Doona). So there was a lot of anticipation about the reaction it would receive.
We were humbled by the fantastic feedback at the show from new and familiar faces, with Aria and Nola being favourites for many. Aria and the rattan trend were embraced by all, while Nola’s bold use of colour was a hit! And we can’t forget the launch of Aylo by Junior Jones, which was a massive success. Plus, it was great to introduce the revolutionary Veer, which is completely different to anything else on the market.
The show wouldn’t have been a success without the customers who visited us, and we were blown away by their response.
Will you be running any specific promotions or consumer targeted media over the following months that retailers should be aware of?
Yes, with the imminent launch of Aylo by Junior Jones, we’re busy preparing a campaign to relaunch the brand to parents and support retailers. Our retailers will be provided with all the tools and resources they need for a successful unveiling, including informative assets for product listings, fantastic creative packs for launching across all channels and lots more!
Christopher Grech- Cini
SALES MANAGER, BABY JOGGERHow did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor?
It was great to see and hear the halls buzzing with customers. Our stand was extremely busy. We’re very grateful for those customers that’s called on to see us and were also delighted to start some new relationships too!
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing? Our City Mini2 family is always popular with our customers but more recently our City Tour2 compact travel range has been picking up some real momentum and customers are noticing! What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
We received some great comments for our new City Sights bundle, which appears to tick all the boxes in terms of design and functionality and all for under £900!
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
The buzz of the show in general and spending some quality time on an evening with customers and work colleagues.
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
The most memorable moment for me was when I took a minute to just stand back and take in what we had achieved. The whole team has worked tirelessly all year round and delivered a wonderful job. Seeing your team doing what they love with smiles on their faces and an abundance of enthusiasm is priceless. Their passion for the brand and products is next level!

We found that the response to the brand as a whole was great. As a newer brand to the market, we felt the response to the range and quality of our products was noticed throughout the show.
What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
We launched our new Pippeta Original LED, which was loved by everyone who visited the stand. As a brand we pride ourselves on quality products which are affordable to new parents. Yes, definitely... we are always up to something. For an early heads up of what’s coming subscribe to our mailing list.
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show? The stand out moments were when retailers and distributers from the UK and abroad told us they specifically came to the show just to see us.

Compact folding
Baby Jogger is delighted to have been able to present its new 2022 stroller City Sights at the Harrogate International Nursery Fair and to have received such positive feedback.

Unlike conventional sleep aids that just play white noise for helping babies and toddlers to be soothed to sleep, Jaspar also has a rerecordable voice recording function that allows up to 20 minutes of recording time.
The comforting sound of a parent’s voice in the form of a sound, song, story or lullaby helps babies to build a stronger bond with them but can also help ease separation anxiety that so many babies feel when their parents aren’t nearby.

Lorretta Owen
JOLLY TOTSHow was your visit to Harrogate this year?
We loved Harrogate 2022. Myself, my dad (Director) and nephew Harvey attended this year. It was my nephews first show and he absolutely loved it. He was bubbling with excitement at the new designs and models.
We attended Sunday, Monday and returned home Tuesday. We felt that Sunday was somewhat quieter than usual but all agreed Monday definitely had a buzz.
We loved looking at all the new upcoming colours and models. We felt that on the whole it was a great show. We have made some new contacts which in turn will bring new brands too the showroom.
It was lovely to catch up with faces old and new.
Did it reach your expectations?
Yes it did. I would say there was less new colours than perhaps there had been last time as then we were playing somewhat of a catch up from the lockdown closures.
Were there sufficient brands and new products on display?
We felt that there was some great new products launched but on the whole less than last year. There was a great selection of different brands on show.
Did you take advantage of show only offers while in attendance?
We sure did...We love a great offer and our customers love it when we can offer products at a really great price. This is what we pride ourselves on. We have the ability to by a large quantity if the price is right.
Was there a particular product that you found of interest?
The new Nuna Pipa Urbn car seat with built in Isofix stole the show for me. It’s the first car seat of its kind to offer this. It promises to be a real game changer!! We can’t wait for its launch.
Were you focussing on a particular nursery category while visiting this year?
I was looking out for nursery furniture for parents on a budget. I found the CuddleCo stand to be outstanding this year. The new furniture ranges that they are introducing are amazing. Really offering something for everyone’s budget. I wanted all of them - time for a bigger shop!
So lovely to have Gill back too - CuddleCo wasn’t the same without her.
What about trends, did you spot anything you feel will set the tone for the following 12 months – colourways, fabrics, etc.?
Fabric colourways seem to follow clothing fashions. I have noticed a huge increase in browns, beige and tan on the high street. I predict that the new year is all going to be about the nudes.
Interestingly green seems to be getting stronger for 2023. Both pastel green and darker shades. Sage green seems very popular for nursery room sets too which looked stunning.
Lilac made a few appearances with a couple of brands which was lovely to see as it’s so fresh and also my favourite colour.
For you, what was your key highlight of the event?
It was so lovely to catch up with everyone. Put faces to those that you speak too on the phone and via email. Spend some time with my Dad and nephew. All to help keep moving Jolly Tots forward. Helping to provide baby goods for everyone’s budget.

LISTERS BABY SHOP
How was your visit to Harrogate this year?
As always it was exciting! It is always lovely to see fellow retailers and suppliers under one roof.
Did it reach your expectations?
Absolutely I heard lots of good things about new products and colours and wasn’t disappointed.
Were there sufficient brands and new products on display?
I didn’t manage to get round them all as there were so many which was lovely to see. I will re-think for next year to add an extra day to get around everyone.
Did you take advantage of show only offers while in attendance?
I took advantage of most that were on that would work for our store. I did find though that there didn’t seem as many as last year for buying in smaller amounts. There seemed to be offers for buying in bulk but that doesn’t work for every store. Was there a particular product that you found of interest?
Inglesina, Venicci and Miniuno. Inglesina is a new product to us for this year. Venicci are new to our store and doing incredibly well. Miniuno has grown and has lots of exciting new products on the horizon.
Were you focussing on a particular nursery category while visiting this year?
Wheels, furniture and car seats were my main focus this year. Did you find a new product that you feel will offer your customers something new and might become the next must have?
Peg Perego Highchairs! The colours and range are fantastic. What about trends, did you spot anything you feel will set the tone for the following 12 months – colourways, fabrics, etc.? I was pleased to see a lot of biscotti, taupe, creamy coloured fabrics across all the different ranges.
For you, what was your key highlight of the event? Seeing everyone in a more relaxed atmosphere!

Prakash Chauhan
DIRECTOR THE DREAMY ELEPHANT COMPANYHow did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor? Harrogate was a great success again. We attracted interest from both UK and overseas retailers, and it was great to finally meet a lot of our stockists in person for the first time. It was also great to catch up with the other brands that we have developed a good relationship with since our first show last year. Compared to last year we had more of an opportunity to have longer conversations with our current and prospective customers, possibly because the show was larger this year.
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing?
We showcased Jaspar The Dreamy Elephant which is our first and only product so far. However, we did canvas the opinion of a few of the visitors with our plans to bring a new version of Jaspar and a new animal to gauge their opinion and ideas. The 20 minute recording function on Jaspar is a big hit with all our customers as it provides so many benefits for parents and babies in terms of building a loving bond and helping to ease separation anxiety. This feature alone has really helped differentiate Jaspar from all the other conventional sleep aid toys on the market and as a result many of the large multiples and independent nursery stores also now stock Jaspar in their stores. What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
No new products this year but we did bring along some new POS and a selling guide which we now offer to all our stockists. In the words of Yas Ali of BabyLand Fife…. “The Selling Guide was a game changer…” She said it helped her team understand the concept of Jaspar as a Sleep Aid and a Bonding Companion, how it is different to all the other sleep aids on the market and it showed them how to relay the features and benefits in a concise way to their customers leading to increased sales.
Sam Tyack
SALES DIRECTOR UK & IRE – TRIXIE BABYHow did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor?
I was very impressed with this year’s show. For a new brand launching into the UK & Irish markets, we were able to make connections with so many buyers and stores.
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing?
Our range is so broad that we were able to capture the imagination of our audience with our stunningly soft nursery textiles and fabrics. Whilst others immediately fell in love with our animal characters. Everything from wooden toys, rubber toys, soft toys into towelling and bathtime all got so much love from visitors to the Trixie stand.
What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
Technically, everything was new as we have just arrived in the UK and so therefore this was a great exercise to test a core range on a dedicated audience. I was blown away by the reception to the brand as a whole.
Will you be running any specific promotions or consumer targeted media over the following months that retailers should be aware of?
We don’t have a B2C outlet in the UK so all of our consumer targeting will be in collaboration with our retail partners. I’m passionate about supporting stores to build visibility of Trixie and in turn reap the rewards of something new and exciting on these shores!
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
I have to say my favourite moment was in, both, trips to and from the show. Having picked up my Belgian colleagues from the airport and then watching the enjoyment as we rolled through the hills and into Harrogate. Such a great setting for such a great show and it was nice to enjoy it through fresh eyes seeing it all for the first time!

FIELD MARKETEER - DOREL
How did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor?
Harrogate was fantastic again this year. It is only our second year returning to the show and it just keeps getting better.
We had a busy stand with back-to-back retailer and press appointments, which allowed us to showcase both new and muchloved products to everyone. We always love seeing our customers, industry press and spending time together discussing our portfolio.
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing?
We showed a lot of newness this year so it is hard to pick just one. We had new products in all categories which were amazingly well received.
For us, receiving retailer feedback at events like Harrogate is so important to allow us to develop and hone upcoming key strategic and tactical launches.
What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
In car seats, we highlighted the new RodiFix Pro i-Size. This is the i-Size update to our best-selling RodiFix AirProtect high back booster that is launching early next year. The update was well-received and anticipating the new guidelines for R44 car seats, it is an important upgrade for us.
Across our home collection, we presented a huge selection of newness with 5 new products! Retailers saw our new Nesta highchair and Alba all-in-one bassinet, recliner and highchair in the flesh.
Plus for the first time, we shared our upcoming ‘S Collection’ – a stylish range of compact and lightweight products perfect for smaller spaces. Keep an eye out in the coming months for more information!
In the pushchair category, we launched our gorgeous Leona Luxe, a stylish and compact pushchair perfect for city living. Both retailers and press enjoyed seeing the Leona Luxe in person in our on-trend Twillic Truffle colourway.
Will you be running any specific promotions or consumer targeted media over the following months that retailers should be aware of?
We have lots on for the last few weeks of the year, including specific Black Friday offers.
We have consumer offers, advertising and some fun, seasonal campaigns. In the coming weeks we will be sending all the details to our retailers so that they can see what exciting plans we have!
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
It’s hard to narrow it down to just one! Sharing our upcoming launches with our retailers and being able to spend time together is always at the top of the list.
Also this year, we were really proud to share our sustainability message. As a company, all of our brands are taking steps towards a sustainable future. From eco packaging to recycled fabrics, it was great to share our progress and vision across our brands with everyone at the show.

HEAD OF PRODUCT MANAGEMENT –JOIE MANAGING DIRECTOR – BABYSTYLEHow did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor?
I was very pleasantly surprised with how upbeat the overall feeling was at the show, orders were very good, and retailers seemed to have made enough time to really look at everything on offer.
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing?
Yes, our new BabyStyle “Home Range” was particularly well received, and most retailers ordered for the shop floor which was great to see.
Our all-new Prestige range was also very well received and again lots of shop floor models ordered.
What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
BabyStyle Home range was all new and very well received, we also showed a new Mini Oyster quick fold stroller that went down really well. New colour ways on both Oyster and egg were well liked and in particular the egg in Mink was a real winner with the retailers. Will you be running any specific promotions or consumer targeted media over the following months that retailers should be aware of? We constantly exploit social media channels and keep very active with offers and newness in order to drive sales into shop floors.
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
The overall genuine friendliness of the exhibition, from both suppliers and retailers. Most memorable moment was being introduced to a new distributor from Uzbekistan who had travelled for 18 hours to get to Harrogate, taking 3 flights on route to get there, what an unbelievable effort.
How did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor?
The overall impression we were getting from colleagues and visitors was that the show was very well received. Attendance levels were good and there was a lot of interest in our newly launched items – we certainly took a lot of orders.
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing?
Our new i-Spin XL received tremendous interest due to the continued success of the i-Spin 360, although the launch of our Cycle collection was embraced by all due to the heightened environmental challenges in many industry sectors.
What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
As well as the hotly anticipated i-Spin XL, we also launched our new parcel stroller, i-Plenti and i-Jemini car seats, roomie go bedside crib, and vinca pushchair. We also included updates to some of our existing lines, transforming our litetrax and mytrax into Pro versions and making some updates to the versatrax. Interest in all of our new products was high and we are looking forward to launching them properly in the coming months. Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
It’s a hard one to pin down to just one moment as we had a lot of interest in all of our new products, but attendees to our stand seem particularly impressed by the roomie go. The speed and ease that this product can be folded was causing quite a stir.

Nursery Today caught up with Kiddies Kingdom’s Show Room Store Manager Jumaimah Hussain to find out her thoughts on Harrogate 2022.
How was your visit to Harrogate International Nursery Fair this year?
It was an amazing visit; we had a large team that went out. It was enjoyable as always, great to see all the suppliers we work with and all the potential new brands entering the space.
Did it reach your expectations?
Yes, above, and beyond, it was a lot bigger than in previous years, with more halls, so, a lot of walking for us! There were a lot of exhibitors with some impressive stands, the whole exhibition had a nice buzz and vibe around the place.
Did you take advantage of show-only offers while in attendance?
Yes, we saw plenty of show offers, along with new product ranges seen for the first time, we also had some last-minute Black Friday planning!
Was there a particular product that you found of interest?
There are lots of products on show and they are all of interest! Some cool new innovative outdoor products not seen in the UK before and furniture crib designs which are very trendy. There were new partnerships and collaborations cross brands which were great to see and some great technology-driven products.
Were you focussing on a particular nursery category while visiting this year?
We still focussed on our core categories, but we are always on the lookout for something new, and there were some really great new brands who we engaged with, so watch this space!
Did you find a new product that you feel will offer your customers
something new and might become the next musthave?
There was a lot of newness in terms of functionality, a couple of standouts were the Nuna infant carrier with isofix points, so it doesn’t require a base & the Clevamama Air Purifier which was a neat piece of technology and great looking.
What about trends, did you spot anything you feel will set the tone for the following 12 months –colourways, fabrics, etc.?
We saw some great quality fabrics this year and the trending fashion and home colours are also now filtering through into the products. Styling is very important now as customers want products that fit into their décor.
Multi-Functional products are also on the rise as it sits so well alongside sustainability. Not having to add more products with the same/similar functions to the home, reduces the need for manufacturing and high carbon footprints. These multifunctional products also increase the longevity of the product.
Purification of air looks like the next big thing and some great innovations from certain brands will be seen soon.
For you, what was your key highlight of the event?
The brand ethos and perceptions of how customers view them are changing, the lower/mid-end brands have stepped up and produced some fantastic looking and quality feeling products. As the UK and world enters unknown times and recession hits, all brands have had to evolve to keep their market share.
Expanding range
Babymore was one of the standout brands at this year’s show, making waves with many retailers. Showcasing firm favourites such as their Memore travel system (now with new iSize car seat plus an impressive new fold), and the stunning new Lux nursing chair that converts effortlessly from rocking to armchair. To add to the excitement, the Kola and Macadamia 360 rotation car seats expand their travel category along with the Mimi travel system. In addition, their hugely popular wooden furniture category will be enhanced further with the arrival of the sumptuous Caro furniture range, along with the Kimi and Mona cot beds in striking colourways and matching universal changer and wardrobe. www.babymore.co.uk

HEAD OF SALES - UK & IRELAND - HAUCK
How did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor?
The fair was very well organised, and we had a super location. Many thanks to everyone who made this event so great. The fact that we have already signed up for next year shows how satisfied we were with the fair.
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing?
We came to Harrogate this year not only with our new products, but also to introduce our new brand. We were all the more pleased when we saw and experienced the consistently positive reactions of the customers.
What were the new products that you launched at the show, and how were these received?
Basically, all the products we exhibited were new to the UK market. We really focused on launching soft goods for our Alpha range as well as Pushchairs, Highchairs and Travel Cots. Customers particularly liked the harmonious and stylish new design of our Disney products.
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
It was great to meet and catch up with our customers who had the opportunity to touch and feel the new products. There is no substitute for the feedback you receive when customers are able to engage with product. We really appreciated seeing how everyone positively reacted to our new collection and rebranding.

How did you find Harrogate this year as an exhibitor? It was a good experience as a first-time exhibitor! Definitely the market space in which we wanted to grow awareness of the KiddieRail and met many useful contacts along the way.
Did you feel that you had a particular product on your stand that visitors were embracing?
Yes - as we were only exhibiting one product, KiddieRail, which was both innovative and unrivalled in Harrogate. We were especially delighted to Win an Award in the Safety Category for our adjustable handrail that fits below a standard handrail at a height suitable for young children.
Will you be running any specific promotions or consumer targeted media over the following months that retailers should be aware of?
A Christmas Sale is going to be happening. Watch this space as discounts and offers are announced across our social media channels.
Finally, for you as a brand, what would you say was your most memorable moment of the show?
The after-show drinks on the first day – great chance to socialise and network with fellow professionals and a beautiful venue. But receiving the BANTA Award for KiddieRail was awesome!

Harrogate round-up
October proved an important month for the Baby Products Association as it raised its profile to the industry at Harrogate International Nursery Fair. Here, it announced the winners of its annual awards – the Concept & Innovation Awards and the Baby and Nursery Trade Awards (BANTAs).
This year, the association also reintroduced its much-coveted Handbook, which is a definitive guide to manufacturers and suppliers of baby products. If you didn’t pick up your copy at the show, you can view and download a copy from the website at www.b-p-a.org or email: julie@b-p-a.org who will be happy to post one to you.
Can you afford not to be a member?
The association’s team also discussed the benefits of membership at the show, and with a potentially challenging year ahead for the UK, it has never been a better time to join and reap the benefits of advice and support on offer.
If your company is a member of the Baby Products Association and you are not currently receiving members’ e-bulletins with industry updates, but would like to, please email julie@b-p-a.org who will add you to the database.
Robert Anslow, managing director, explains: “It is sad to hear stories of companies – particularly small businesses – which are struggling with legal battles such as stolen trademarks and IP; employment disputes which damage reputations; and any other number of issues which can potentially threaten a business. These are all issues that the Association can provide free help and support with via its business helpline and affiliations with legal advisors and Trading Standards.”
The free Quest Business Support line offers 24/7, 365 day access and has experts on hand to help and advise on legal, HR, health and safety and tax matters. Members also have access to a website document library with literally 100s of documents to download and use.
Robert continues: “With membership costing as little as £35 a month – less than most monthly phone contracts – this service alone is worth its weight in gold, particularly for small businesses in times of trouble.”
For more information about joining the Association visit the website where you can complete an application online, or download the membership information pack.
Concept & Innovation Awards
The Baby Products Association announced the winner of its 2022 Concept & Innovation Award at Harrogate International Nursery Fair on 17th October. This is Jennifer Lake with BUG Grip, a clamping device that can immediately create a double buggy or connect a scooter, trolley or similar product with a quick twist and click of its universal head.
Jennifer was presented with her award by Marc Hardenberg, chair of the Baby Products Association, who commented: “All three finalists had incredibly inventive ideas this year and the judges had a really difficult time deciding which entrant would be the overall winner. However, BUG Grip stood out as a solution to an everyday problem faced by many parents; it is a clever design and it was felt that the product has the potential to be extremely marketable.”
Jennifer will receive a prize of free legal advice from the award sponsor, law firm 3Volution.
