Lehigh Valley Wine Trail

Page 1

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Mountains of eastern Pennsylvania are eight family-owned wineries that compose the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail. Our mission is to promote agri-tourism and to create a premier wine destination and grape growing region.

The fertile farmlands, rich in shale and limestone and favored with a moderate climate, provide an ideal growing environment for vineyards of both traditional Vinifera wine grapes and Native American grapes.

Wine in Bloom 3rd weekend of May www.papreferred.com

This event takes place mid-spring as bud break occurs on the vines. It celebrates the importance that terroir (soil) plays in the development of the grapes, their flavor and the resulting taste of the wine, and stresses the importance of the A.V.A. designation (American Viticultural Area) in further legitimizing the Lehigh Valley for wine making. An A.V.A. designation was awarded in April 2008 to the Lehigh Valley region after a five-year application process. Wineries in the region are permitted to list “Lehigh Valley” as the growing region on their labels as long as a minimum of 75% of the grapes used in their wines are grown within the A.V.A.

Harvest Weekend –

The Butcher, The Baker, The Winemaker 2nd weekend in September

The Lehigh Valley Wine Trail is proud to be a part of ‘Pennsylvania Preferred,’ a major statewide campaign designed to showcase and promote the excellent quality of Pennsylvania products. As a result, we are each partnering with other Pennsylvania products and inviting you, the public, to join us for a weekend of entertainment and education as we kickoff our fall harvest season. Many wineries will feature wine, food, tours, music and special events throughout this fun-filled weekend. So bring your friends and family out to our wineries as we celebrate the harvest season!

Chambourcin Weekend

In the greater Lehigh Valley, there are more than 40 acres of Chambourcin, which will ultimately ferment into 150,000 bottles of wine. Chambourcin is very versatile in the wine cellar and our wineries craft it into every style of wine imaginable – Nouveau, Rosé, Semi- Sweet, Sweet, Dry Barrel Aged, Sparkling and Port. With over 50 award-winning Chambourcin wines produced, we invite you to taste our local treasure and discover your favorite one.

Nouveau Weekend 3rd weekend in November

Visit our eight family-owned wineries and sample our first vintages of the harvest. Each winery will offer a ‘Nouveau’ wine, some of which are produced from Chambourcin grapes, the grape of the Lehigh Valley. ‘Nouveau’ wines are usually light, fruity, semi-dry to dry red wines, which are known to be excellent with the traditional Thanksgiving meal. We will offer food pairings to enjoy with our delicious ‘Nouveau’ wines. Hours for Wine Trail events are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Our family-owned wineries promote premium Pennsylvania wines from the Lehigh Valley, which was designated an American Viticultural Area in April 2008. The A.V.A. designation enables vintners to better describe the origin of their wines and allows consumers to better identify wines they purchase. The Lehigh Valley is Pennsylvania’s fastest growing wine region and an exciting place to visit. Our proximity to Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. makes the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail an easy escape for the wine lover in you.
