Hello and Welcome the Inaugural production of The Legacy Studios Drama Club!

My name is Ty Scurry and I am the enthused and elated Director and Drama Teacher for New Haven Academy. Coming into this position, I knew that we would have our work cut out for us to bring this program back to life. I studied the previos works of Ms. Jackson - the long-time drama teacher of nha. I seen that she was serious about presenting relevant and engaging topics to the students we had. As I went into looking for the perfect show fo this year, I came upon this gem that we know as Songs for a New World. After reading and doing much research, I knew that this was the show! Not only did I pick this show because of the outstanding music and the unfamiliarity of the title, I picked this show because of the meaning and the message that it brings and shows the young people of our community!

As it says this is a story about ONE MOMENT. It’s about understanding who you are and believing not only in yourself but believing in those that society has unknowingly thrown to take this life journey with! Like the steam train that sprints from destination to destination, this show gives you a birdds eye view of one's life. While your watching, these moment tell a story that makes you laugh, it makes you cry, & it even makes you think! That is why we chose this show!

By now I believe my students have realized that there was a reason behind my mantra for this year! #CreateYourLegacy became our anthem and we marched to that song faithfully allowing it to develop us as actors, artists, and as people! If you don’t leave with anything else, look at the students on the stage- understand that for them to do what they do takes passion, dedication, determination, resilience, perseverance, and faith. When you watch this show, these students have done above and beyond what I have asked and I’m truly grateful for them! Thank You to EVERYONE that has helped or had their hand in developing and birthing this program into what it is becoming! I appreciate everything that you have done for the program. Always remember that ensuring that the arts are available to all students should not be a choice but a necessity!
