I am extremely excited to welcome you to The Legacy Center. My name is Dr. Terry Harris and I am the Executive Director of The Legacy Center, (TLC). TLC is an innovation community learning hub located in the former McKinley Elementary School building, 6850 Normandale Dr. 63121.

Our mission statement is: We are committed to ensuring all youth, educators, and communities have equitable access, opportunities, and resources to flourish in life. As a team, we remain committed to this mission and, in support, have affirmed our commitment to Excellence through Equity for all students in the 24:1 footprint.

Our team at TLC is focused on three priority areas:

1) Youth Support: Positive youth development programs strengthen young people’s sense of identity, belief in the future, self-regulation, and self-efficacy as well as their social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral competence. Our programs provide youth with networks of supportive adults whose aim is to develop and enhance positive characteristics of individuals and their surrounding context.

2) Family and Community Support: Families and communities are essential to the success of young people. By hosting diverse individuals and organizations from the community and school district, each with unique experience, knowledge, and resources, we envision TLC facilitating meaningful and purposeful action-oriented gatherings that are designed to find systemic solutions for our most pressing challenges.

3) Educator Support: TLC is committed to creating a professional learning community of best teaching and learning practices, educator wellness support, and social gathering, all with the aim of making a collective impact for educator transformation. We welcome communities from all over the region who are invested in preparing and supporting educators as they prepare and support students for college, career, and life.

TLC understands the importance of relationships, trust, and social capital that have helped foster and sustain the success of the 24:1 community for years These are the foundational elements of any community-wide partnerships, and we know we all work together in much more productive ways as a result.

We Believe in Evidence-based Practices: We take a holistic, evidence-based approach, grounded in the science of learning and development, that attends to young people’s cognitive, academic, social, and emotional growth

We Believe in Community Assets Gathering: Proven providers of these supports exist and are already integrated throughout the St. Louis region. Through regional engagement and local collaboration, we will organize, expand, and improve support for maximum youth impact

We Believe in Youth Power: We promote and encourage youth decision-making about what student supports are needed.

Our work is possible because of the partnership with the Regional Business Council and the Community Impact Network We are so grateful for the local support from parents, staff, community members and businesses that makes us better.
