Celebrating Two Transformative Years: A Conversation with Legacy CEO Dr. Robert “Bobby” Hilliard, Jr. As we reflect on the past two years under the leadership of Dr. Robert “Bobby” Hilliard, Jr., it’s clear that Legacy Community Health has continued to evolve in its mission to provide comprehensive, quality health care services to underserved communities. We sat down with Dr. Hilliard to discuss his journey, accomplishments, and vision for the future. Hilliard has found his tenure at Legacy to be a return to his roots in social work and as a physician OB/GYN. “Our employees are very passionate about our mission. They understand that we are helping people who need it,” he said. This alignment with the organization’s core values has been personally fulfilling for him. “I get to walk into any clinic and see the people benefiting from the services that our amazing employees provide. It’s very fulfilling.” Hilliard is particularly proud of our staff, which has grown over the past two years. “We’ve had a lot of new faces who are equally as passionate about our patients,” he noted. Our teams have been instrumental in opening seven new school-based health care clinics and securing a generous $50 million donation from Methodist to build two more clinics. “We’re also launching a capital campaign for Beaumont, a community with a strong need for health care,” Hilliard added.

When it comes to expanding beyond the Houston, Baytown, and Beaumont areas, Hilliard is optimistic. “Our mission of driving healthy change cannot happen without access to care,” he said. The organization continually evaluates areas with unmet health care needs, confident that the Legacy model can make a meaningful impact. Technology has been a game-changer in how Legacy delivers services. “When I came here, we had three pharmacies. Opening a central fill location was the best way to serve our current patient population at 57 locations,” Hilliard said. Legacy is also upgrading its medical records system to Epic, allowing patients to access their records and communicate with providers more easily. “It’s more efficient, faster for clinicians and providers, and offers more patient transparency,” he noted. As for the future, Hilliard is looking forward to expanding access to care through a joint venture with CareSource, a nonprofit managed care organization. “We’ve applied to the state of Texas to serve patients in

Harris and Jefferson counties. If approved, this would offer our clinicians a more fulsome picture of our Medicare patients’ health so that we can provide care for better health outcomes,” he said. In just two years, Hilliard has led Legacy Community Health in a direction that honors its 40-year history and sets the stage for an innovative and impactful future. As we look forward to what comes next, Legacy’s mission to drive healthy change in our communities will continue to thrive.

Chree Boydstun Honored as a 2024 Woman of Distinction by Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation We are excited to announce Legacy’s Chief Development Officer, Chree Boydstun, has earned a spot as one of the 2024 Women of Distinction from the Southern Texas Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. This prestigious award acknowledges her exemplary leadership, philanthropy, and positive impact on the Houston community, particularly for those grappling with Crohn’s and Colitis. Since joining Legacy in 2007, Chree’s exceptional leadership has been instrumental in securing $350 million in funding. She’s spearheaded capital campaigns that have established three new clinics. A momentous $50 million donation from Houston Methodist will enable us to add two more clinics, further expanding accessible health care in Southeast Texas. Beyond Legacy, Chree contributes to the broader community through her board memberships, such as Performing Arts Houston and Southern Smoke Foundation. She also serves as an advisory member of the Latin Women’s Initiative and is a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Wine Sales Committee. Legacy’s CEO, Dr. Bobby Hilliard, commended Chree’s tireless commitment to philanthropy and her transformative leadership, stating that she is shaping our community’s future in profound ways.

Chree will be officially honored at the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation’s Annual Winter Ball next February. Please join us in celebrating this well-deserved accolade, a testament to the impactful leadership that advances our mission.

PLANNED GIVING As the holiday season approaches, it’s a good time to think about the lasting impact of your charitable contributions. Legacy Community Health has been a cornerstone in Houston since the 1980s, and your support is essential for us to continue our mission. One tax-efficient way to help is through Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from your IRA. In the past year, we’ve served some 222,000 people, with 32% uninsured. Your generous donations make it possible for us to provide health care services to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. If you’re 70½ or older, QCDs offer a smart way to support our work. You can donate up to $100,000 annually from your IRA without it being considered taxable income. If you’re 73 or older, these gifts also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution. As you consider your charitable giving for the holidays and the end of the year, keep in mind that a QCD can make a real difference in our community. Your ongoing generosity allows us to keep healthcare accessible for all. Thank you for joining us to drive healthy change in our communities!

When you donate stock, you can avoid the tax on the gain while deducting 100% of the value of the contribution and earn two to three times the tax savings of donating cash. It’s a win-win for you and Legacy. And, thanks to our partnership with DonateStock.com, making your gift is easier than ever. Our website at DonateStock.com/LCH enables you to donate stock from your brokerage directly to our account through a secure portal in less than 10 minutes! It’s fast, safe, and easy to do. By giving stock, your support will have a greater impact - without denting your pocketbook. To learn more, please visit DonateStock.com/LCH.
