KNIGHTS WELCOME GUIDE A Guide for New & Current Families 2024 - 2025 school year
Dear New Legacy Families,
Welcome to Legacy Christian Academy! We are excited to partner with you in the education of your children and look forward to seeing them grow academically, personally and spiritually
In John 13:34-35, Jesus said to his disciples, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another ” As a student, your children will spend a great deal of their time here at Legacy We want them to know they are loved and cared for by their teachers, by the staff and administration, and by the Legacy community as a whole We want families to feel connected and build relationships so we can celebrate life’s victories together, but also bear one another’s burdens. We also want to model for our students what it looks like to love and serve others as Jesus loved.
Our advancement office has put together this handy reference to help you as you prepare for the year ahead at Legacy. It should answer many of your questions and direct you to helpful information and resources. We understand that starting a new school, whether as a brand new preschool student, or as an upper-classman, can be scary and overwhelming We want to help provide a smooth entrance for your children and offer ways for your family to get connected right away
Again, welcome to the LCA community We look forward to a great year ahead getting to know your children and your family and we are so thankful for the opportunity to partner with you in our great endeavor of Equipping Leaders for Christ!

Mission Vision Equipping Leaders for Christ
Legacy graduates are academically, personally, and spiritually equipped to continue their education in college, participate productively in the marketplace, and influence their culture for Christ by leading in their family, church, community, and vocation.
Commensurate with their individual talents (Matthew 25:14-30), graduates humbly steward their gifts and resources for God’s glory (I Chronicles 29:1113) in service to Christ (Colossians 3:23-24), pursuing relationship with God (Mark 12:29-30, John 17:3), bearing the fruit of Christian character (Mark 12:31, Galatians 5:22-23), demonstrating godly excellence in all areas (Philippians 4:8), and leading so others might follow Christ by imitating their example (Philippians 4:9).

Philosophy of Christian Education
PHILOSOPHY OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Legacy Christian Academy partners with Christian families in their responsibility to teach children to know God (Deuteronomy 6:4-7, Psalm 78:1-8) and to walk in a manner worthy of Him (Colossians 1:10), assisting parents in raising their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). In service to God’s kingdom and for the growth of His church, all LCA volunteers and employees –faculty, coaches, staff, and administrators – are ministers of the gospel, preparing Legacy students for a life of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12).
LCA views academic, personal, and spiritual development as simultaneously essential and inextricably linked in the process of equipping leaders for Christ. As a result, LCA integrates biblical truth, character development, discipleship, student leadership, service mindset, and the pursuit of both truth and beauty into all academic and co-curricular programs. Additionally, to equip Christian leaders of the highest caliber, LCA embraces developmentally appropriate academic rigor within a relational learning environment, challenging students both independently and collaboratively to think critically, solve problems, and communicate clearly and creatively.
All LCA community members – students, parents, volunteers, and employees – bear responsibility to follow Christ daily (Luke 9:23-24), submitting to God as stewards under His leadership (Psalm 24:1). This daily responsibility to follow Christ extends to leading others by example and instruction in acting wisely (Ephesians 5:15-16), doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God (Micah 6:8). LCA community members commit to regularly reading and studying the Bible (Psalm 119:11, 105), maintaining an active prayer life (I Thessalonians 5:17), participating in a local church that agrees with the LCA statement of faith (Hebrews 10:24-25), and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with those who do not know Him (Matthew 28:19-20).

Absences
What do I do if my child is going to be absent?
Please email attendance@legacyknights.org or call the main office at 937-352-1640 by 9:00am to report your child's absence. Please see the Parent/Student handbook for a list of excusable absences and the documentation required to excuse absences. Absences are considered unexcused until documentation is provided. Click here to see what type of documentation is needed for absences. Prior to a planned absence (such as out of state travel, a family event, a non-Legacy sports tournament, etc.), families should submit a Leave of Absence Form to your child's principal. Leave of Absence Forms should be submitted two weeks ahead of a planned absence to get approval to make up academic work missed during a planned absence. The absence will remain unexcused but the form needs the principal's signature to get credit for missed assignments.

Chapel Communication
Grades 1-6 have a weekly chapel on Friday mornings at 9:15 am. Parents are always welcome to join us for chapel. All parents attending chapel must first check in at the main office.
Class Parents & Parties
Class parents are responsible for helping teachers plan for class parties and organizing sign ups for food and supplies needed. If you are interested in being considered as a class parent, please let your child’s teacher know prior to or during Meet the Teacher night.
Teachers will send a weekly email about what is going on in the classroom, learning objectives, special projects or activities, ways to reinforce learning at home, and reminders. Teachers may also communicate or post photos on Class Dojo or another app. The best way to communicate with your child’s teacher is through email.
Days of Prayer and Service
LCA will have 3 Days of Prayer and Service during this school year. These are days when our entire campus engages in activities related to service and prayer. Sometimes these days include work at off-campus sites and sometimes students remain on campus for chapel and small group sessions. Parents are encouraged to volunteer during off-campus Days of Prayer and Service.
Note :
Field Day
Elementary classes enjoy an end of year Field Day, which involves outdoor activities and fun. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to help with field day activities.
Field Trips
Elementary classes typically have planned field trips during the year. Teachers will communicate information and permission slips around these trips through email and Friday folders.

Grades
Grades are a measure of a student’s academic performance. While grades may reflect character qualities that are an essential part of a Legacy student’s development, grades are not a direct measure of character. Academic progress is reported at the end of each academic period.
Letter grades are issued in grades 3-12. Grades are available to students in grades 3-12 and to parents online through your FACTS Family Portal account. Students in Kindergarten receive grades of M (Mastered), P (Progressing), or I (Improvement Needed).
Graduations
Kindergarten and 6th grades have a graduation ceremony specific to them. Details will be sent out as the ceremonies approach.
Music Concerts
Elementary students have a Christmas and spring music concert. Special attire may be requested for the concerts, and is up to the music teacher’s discretion. Concerts are a great opportunity to invite friends and family members to see what your child has been working on in music!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Note :
Conferences are held twice per year: once in the fall, and again in the winter. These are a great opportunity to get to know your child’s teacher or to address any concerns. Parents or teachers may also request a conference at any time during the school year.

Grades
Grades are a measure of a student’s academic performance. While grades may reflect character qualities that are an essential part of a Legacy student’s development, grades are not a direct measure of character. Academic progress is reported at the end of each academic period.
In grades 7-8, tests and major projects constitute at least 40% of a student’s grade. In grades 9-12, tests and major projects constitute at least 50% of a student’s grade. Performance and participation classes such as PE, choir, and drama are exempt from this minimum. Extra credit cannot exceed 1% of the semester or yearly grade.
Final grades are recorded on the student's cumulative card. High school semester and final grades are recorded on the transcripts that are sent to colleges.
LCA has a minimum grade requirement for sports and drama participation for secondary students. See the Parent Student Handbook for more information.
Lockers
All secondary students are issued a locker. Locker assignments and combinations will be listed on the student’s class schedule and handed out at Meet the Teacher night on 8/12/24. Meet the Teacher night is a good opportunity for students to make sure they can work their combination locks and organize their lockers with shelving and supplies.
School Supplies
Secondary supply lists are specific to teachers and classes and are published to the website and added to the Knightly News in mid-summer.
Service Hours Requirement
All Secondary students are required to meet a total of 8 service hours each semester and log those hours with their Bible teacher through the Google Classroom platform. See the Parent Student Handbook for examples of eligible service hours.
