THE STORY BEHIND THEImpact

“From banter to transformative philanthropy, our friendship ignited a spark that now fuels the dreams of Hampton University students. Together, we're proving that even the wildest ideas can lead to profound change."

- The Founders of the Legacy Blue Gala

So, six friends walk into homecoming...no, this isn't the setup for a punchline, but rather the beginning of a remarkable journey that would leave a lasting impact on the lives of many Picture this: Seven individuals find themselves drawn together by a shared sense of camaraderie and a love for their alma mater, Hampton University.

Led by Tiyale Hayes, Executive Vice President of BET Media Group; Gena Pemberton, Chief Diversity Officer at Omnicom Health Group; Carol Bell Drew, Executive Support at BET Media Group; Dr Nefertiti Childrey, DO , Urologic Surgeon; Cyntoria Williams, Sales Executive, Mielle; Victoria Cotter, Director, Morgan Stanley & emmy award winner and global footwear executive Maureen Carter created the Legacy Blue Gala to make a lasting impact on Hampton University Students.

Understanding that college debt and rising costs are the leading cause for students dropping out of programs, the team wanted to make sure alumni and corporate sponsors could step in the gap to support Hampton University and promising students

The Legacy Blue Gala: At the Intersection of Alumni Impact and Corporate Support

And so, over the clinking of glasses and the occasional burst of laughter, the concept of the Legacy Blue Gala was born

The plan was simple yet audacious: host a gala to raise funds to award micro grants to Hampton University students, providing them with the financial support they need to continue pursuing their dreams and matriculation through Hampton. It was an idea that resonated deeply with each of them, tapping into their own experiences of navigating the challenges of higher education.

Friends on a mission to change lives and leave behind a legacy that would endure for years to come
