Some of the companies and organisations we work with…
We will help you reach Nottingham people
We print and distribute 15,000 copies every month and our website attracts over 50,000 users each month. Our content remains free to everyone who wants to read it, with no paywalls or annoying pop-ups.
We are content-led
In an environment where other free local magazines go straight from the letterbox into the recycling bin, our readers actively seek out a copy of LeftLion to engage with it. If you place an advert with us, it will be placed alongside relevant content rather than facing a page full of other adverts.
We’re ethical and carbon neutral
In 2023 we made a pledge to become a carbon neutral business. Our magazine is printed in a sustainable manner. We reduced our direct emissions by 99% and offset the other 1% with donations to environmental charities. For more detailed info visit leftlion.co.uk/carbonneutral
We’re a local independent business
Every penny you spend with us stays in our local economy, which unfortunately can’t be said of online advertising with global tech giants like Facebook and Google. We pay all of our taxes in the UK too.
When you deal with us, you deal with humans
We are real people from Nottingham. If you want to talk on the phone you can give us a call. If you email us we will respond quickly. If you want to meet you can visit our office and we’ll make you a coffee. We will always recommend the best way for you to promote your business with us.
Our readers genuinely love what we do
In 2021 we launched a monthly Patreon crowdfunder and it has grown to become around 10% of our income. We are now in the top 40 most popular publications worldwide on the platform. Hundreds of people pay a small monthly fee for a free magazine, because they want to support us.

LeftLion was formed in 2003 by three old schoolfriends from Sherwood and named after the city centre’s famous meeting point. LeftLion was created because we are passionate about Nottinghamshire and about celebrating and showcasing the best of the city to our readers.
Our operation is now run by a small team of employees from our headquarters in Sneinton Avenues, alongside regular contributions from hundreds of Nottingham-based creatives. We remain a small independently-owned Nottingham-based business
Over the years the list of people we have worked with is like a ‘who’s who’ of Nottingham. Our first ever cover star was film director Shane Meadows. We conducted an early interview with Nottingham’s beloved Xylophone Man (the only interview he ever did), to author Alan Sillitoe (his last published interview). We’ve also worked with Vicky McClure, Jake Bugg, Games Workshop, Torville and Dean, Richard Whitehead MBE, Su Pollard, Bella Ramsey, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Alt Blk Era and many more. In 2007 we interviewed world-renowned fashion designer Sir Paul Smith and he was so delighted by the interview that he even designed us a stripy cover.
In 2025, as we approach our 200th issue, we have won various awards but remain true to our roots as ever. Our company is still run by those same old schoolfriends and we remain as committed to the cause of championing Nottingham as ever.
LeftLion is passionate about Nottingham. You’ve stuck with it and you’ve believed in it. That in itself towers above the mainstream press. It’s made a real difference in the city; it’s helped change Nottingham. LeftLion is as much a part of this city as the streets, the trees and the air. It’s part of the pubs and part of the people. We’re honoured to have been included in your magazine.
Jason Williamson, Sleaford Mods
I remember reading LeftLion when I first started playing gigs in Nottingham. It’s always been brilliant and it’s great to see that it’s still going strong. If you’re an artist in Nottingham then you want to be in it because you know people read it. Thank you very much for all the support you’ve given me.
Jake Bugg
When I die I want LeftLion to write and publish my obituary. It’s a well respected magazine in Nottingham and has covered our local arts scene faithfully for years. I know LeftLion would do me right and proper. I’d trust an important piece like this in their hands.”
Local support is so important to us and as emerging artists, having LeftLion follow our musical journey has been incredibly motivating. The articles have helped our music reach a wider audience which makes us feel well connected to the vibrant Notts music scene. Their support truly makes a difference!”
Nyrobi & Chaya, Alt Blk Era
