Pableo ome foreign students of the Jose Maria College (JMC) have expressed their concerns about acts of discrimination that they experienced from their classmates based on a focus group discussion (FGD) held on October 3, 2018 in the third floor library. Students of Ukrainian, Nigerian and Chinese descent shared their unfortunate experiences in the campus. “There are some who call us names. Some even try to avoid us in the canteens,” Philip Menon, a grade school student from Nigeria, expressed in an interview.

ith the recent threats of terrorism and violence, the Jose Maria College (JMC) responds to the need of upholding peace education in the campus. Seeing the need to include peace education in hopes of promoting tolerance and acceptance of individual differences, the school conducted its first National Peace Forum last May 15, 2018 in the KJC Cathedral. Integrated Basic Education (IBEd) Principal Marieta A. Munez elaborated the implementation of the peace education drive in the campus.

Aparece, a grade 5 student, revealed in an interview. Meanwhile, student council president Heart Hazel C. Gacayan expressed that the zero tolerance policy was effective but only during the beginning of the school year. “The faculty and staff needs to strengthen the implementation of the policy as some students tend to have forgotten the policy already,” Gacayan stated in an interview. The student leader also noted that for the policy to be effective, the faculty must be consistent with the implementation.
