No Firm Consensus on 2-Lane Bridge Plan BRIAN TROMPETER Staff Writer

NEW SEASON ARRIVES FOR LITTLE-LEAGUERS Above: Players from a variety of teams, including the Northwestern Mutual majors squad and the Hayfield Dental T-ballers, watch McLean Little League’s openingday ceremonies on Saturday morning, April 14 at the Westmoreland Street complex. The season’s ceremonial kickoff (oops, wrong sport) had been postponed a week due to snow on April 7. At right: Some players appeared anxious to play ball as the ceremonies continued. The April 14 festivities began with a parade down Westmoreland Street from McLean High School to the fields. See a slide show of photos from the event at www.insidenova. com/news/fairfax. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) officials, who briefed local residents April 16 at an informational meeting at Forest Edge Elementary School, recommended replacing the structurally weakened, 30-footlong one-lane bridge with a 40-footlong two-lane span that would have 4-foot-wide shoulders.
