Hearing Set for Mill St. Parking BRIAN TROMPETER Staff Writer
Planning Commission OKs Proposal for McLean Parcel
Vienna’s first municipal parking garage might not be a separate town-owned structure but rather purchased space in a proposed four-story commercial building at 211 Mill St., N.E. After months of discussions and presentations by the applicant, Mill Street Development One LLC, the Vienna Town Council on Jan. 29 authorized a public hearing regarding the proposal at the Council’s Feb. 26 meeting. Tentative plans call for the town to pay $4.6 million for a 127-space municipal parking area on the building’s second level. There also would be a basement level with a privately operated parking area and a first level with a storage facility and retail space. Conceptual drawings for the building

Fairfax County Planning Commission members on Feb. 1 unanimously recommended the Board of Supervisors approve plans by MITRE Corp. to develop several commercial buildings on its campus in western McLean. MITRE’s proposal calls for nine buildings, including three existing structures that would be retained, five new office structures and one smaller new building. Under an alternative plan, two of the buildings could be consolidated into one. One of the buildings, dubbed “MITRE 5,” would be 15 stories tall and have up to 300,000 square feet of space. The company also would keep two existing free-standing parking garages and build a third. The site would have 4,690 parking spaces at full build-out. The 22.51-acre site is located about one-tenth of a mile from the McLean Metro station’s southern entrance. The parcel now is home to seven- and 14-story office buildings, plus two of six stories apiece, as well as five- and six-story parking garages and some surface parking. The northern part of the site has been rezoned Planned Tysons Corner and contains part of the Scotts Run Station South rezoning application. The rest of the parContiunued on Page 22
