UNFOLDING OF THE ORIENTAL MAGPIE ROBIN:
Through the artful manipulation of origami, inspired by the Oriental Magpie Robin, I have crafted three distinct forms. By unfolding, cutting, and recombining these forms, each representing different positions and aspects of the bird, I have conceptualized an innovative and sustainable school design. This final architectural form seamlessly integrates the elegance of nature with functional and eco-friendly principles, creating a harmonious educational environment.

CONCEPT DESIGN THINKING PROCESS:
The design concept of our mural celebrates the multiracial harmony of the Chinese New Year festivities, depicting various events across different floors. The Void Deck represents the community’s foundation through craft materials, while the 2nd Floor showcases a celebration buffet table with characters and lanterns made from recycled materials, symbolizing festive gatherings among races. The 3rd Floor highlights the reunion dinner with eco paints and adhesives, reflecting family warmth during the season. The 4th Floor portrays intergenerational enjoyment of festivities, and the 5th Floor represents the unity of diverse races in CNY celebrations, with characters and lanterns made from recycled materials. The mural’s use of sustainable and recycled materials emphasizes environmental awareness alongside cultural diversity.
SCHEMATIC DESIGN PROCESS:
As part of my Role as an Architectural student, I have made used of my Architectural Knowledge in setting up a HDB Mural where we all would comply accordingly to the dimensions and Provide with a List of Schedules and Quantities in order to reduce waste for the Construction of the Mural.
CONSTRUCTION:
Creating the HDB mural involved a meticulous, sustainable process. We sourced recycled materials most notably being upcycled wood that we have found from external organisations and crafted precise characters, lanterns, and decorative elements using eco-friendly paints.
Vice President Geo Council | Student Organiser | 29/06/2024 - 01/03/2024
NYP adopted three residential blocks in Teck Ghee when this initiative was launched in June 2024. Since then, 180 students from the Geo Council and the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Students’ Club have been engaging residents to encourage sustainable lifestyle habits. The QR Code at the bottom left of the main image, provides an insight of my role as a Sustianable Champion in the NYP Campus.
PRE PLANNING PHASE:
As part of the Adopt a Block program, we were assigned to different blocks and age groups to engage residents and conduct surveys about their environmental habits and preferences. While interacting with the elderly, we encountered some language barriers, which we overcame using Google Translate and other methods. Additionally, some residents displayed frustration due to our late-night surveys, which provided us with valuable insights into their perspectives and served as an eye-opening experience in understanding community dynamics.
PRE PLANNING PHASE:
As part of the Adopt a Block launch preparation, I, along with the planning committee, took the lead in engaging Teck Ghee CC residents on the concept of freecycling.
We worked closely together to design a system for how our freecycle market would operate. An important aspect of our efforts was to find ways to encourage the NYP community to donate their second-hand items.
MEDIA COVERAGE (NYP):
With the idea now implemented, I’m glad I was able to share it with the Teck Ghee residents and provide insights into freecycling through the NYP website. This helped reach a wider audience, spreading awareness of the concept and encouraging more people to embrace sustainable practices by exchanging goods within the community.
ADOPT A BLOCK LAUNCH PHASE:
During the Adopt a Block launch phase, with the preperation of the different booths to provide a wonderful and memorable time for the residents of Teck Ghee, I had the idea of expanding the concept of freecycling to a wider community. By promoting the exchange of used goods, we could encourage sustainable practices and reduce waste, while also fostering a sense of sharing and community support among residents.
MEDIA COVERAGE (CNA):
I was also provided the chance to speak up my thoughts during an Interview with CNA regarding to the Adopt a Block Launch programme, where I express my thoughts regarding to Singapore’s Current Day and Age on their knowledge on recycling.
Some event Highlights that we have planned and executed with the teck ghee cc residents featured under the website were, Managing food where 14 residents visited Our Tampines Hub to observe how food waste is treated and recycled into fertiliser and non-potable water with their eco-digester system. and Visit to our greenhouse where 20 Teck Ghee residents at NYP School of Engineering’s greenhouse to learn how innovation helps to increase stable yield in vegetable production. Overall, some experiences shared by the Planning Committee is heart-warming while some being bittersweet as we hope to host more events like this in the future.
The NEA YES Leaders Programme empowers youths to lead sustainability projects, supporting Singapore’s Green Plan and Zero Waste Masterplan. My project focuses on promoting freecycling by introducing a Freecycle Bin at Nanyang Polytechnic, allowing students to exchange secondhand items, reduce waste, and build community connections. The QR Code on the Main Image provides more information on what is NEA YES LEADERS PROGRAMME is about with a short Description of my project together with my other peers.

The session also included bonding games, allowing us to connect with like-minded individuals passionate about driving environmental change through their different ideas.
YES LEADERS ENVIRONMENTAL TOUR:
As a YES Leader, I joined an exclusive environmental tour, with a highlight being Semakau Island—a landfill built from incinerated waste and non-incinerable materials, showcasing Singapore’s innovative waste management. Despite its purpose, the island supports rich biodiversity through conservation efforts. This experience gave me a glimpse of a sustainable Singapore if we collectively adopt responsible environmental practices.
YES LEADERS INDUSTRIAL TOUR:
The Industrial Tour reveals hidden sustainable initiatives in Singapore, showcasing various design strategies for a greener environment. A notable example is the Marina Bay District Cooling System, which uses an extensive underground network of chilled water pipes and high-efficiency centrifugal chillers for energy-efficient cooling.with some chillers capable of ice-making for peak demand management.
YES LEADERS WORKSHOPS:
The YES Leaders Workshops equipped us with essential soft skills that we can apply to our projects and future endeavors. These workshops provided valuable insights into leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, enhancing our ability to manage and apply these soft skills to our intended envrionmental projects that we did.
ENVIROMENTAL PROJET FREECYCLE :
Before starting any project, I saw it as my responsibility as a leader to ensure my planning committee experienced the concept of freecycling firsthand. This allowed us to understand user pain points and the challenges of hosting a freecycling market. Due to time constraints, we couldn’t address all the issues to maximize the use of donated second-hand items. However, I hope to share these insights with the NYP community, encouraging others to step up and improve the system. For our project, we focused on enhancing convenience, allowing users to donate freecycle items at their own pace. [The top left QR code provides our overall Hypothesis on NYP’s Freecycling habits while the bottom left features a live online discussion with a participant] through our focused group discussion.

CAPSTONE COMMUNITY PROJECT
ACERS X NYP Wildlife Carinval | Team Leader | 1/10/2023 - 1/3/2024
My project promotes compassion for animals and raises biodiversity awareness, especially among youths. ACRES provides valuable insights, helping to address wildlife mistreatment and promote proper handling of less sympathized animals like snakes, monitor lizards, and crocodiles, fostering a compassionate, informed community.
TRAPPED ANIMALS:
The game involves animals being trapped in glue traps, highlighting the issue of animals getting stuck and the need for awareness. Players will learn facts about these animals, including the dangers of glue traps, while using bottles and rings to “save” them. The purpose is to educate and promote the humane treatment of animals.
NIGHT ANIMALS:
The game involves listening to sounds of nocturnal animals and guessing which animal is making the sound. It educates players about bats, owls, and pangolins. Key lessons include not intimidating pangolins in their natural habitats, what to do if a bat flies into your house, and how to observe owls from a safe distance without disturbing them, especially near nesting areas. The goal is to raise awareness of wildlife protection and responsible interactions.
sss-Snake :
The Snakes and Ladders game educates players about different snake species, some poisonous and others not, by providing facts when landing on a snake. It also raises awareness about the issue of snakes being unappreciated and chopped up by the public. The game aims to promote respect for wildlife.
OVERALL REFLECTION:
Despite being a small project in collaboration with ACRES focused on the mistreatment of wildlife animals, this initiative made me realize that we don’t always need a large audience to create change in the community. Sometimes, it’s enough to engage a small group of people and help them understand the issues through the games we designed, which depicted various scenarios of animal mistreatment. Through the prizes and souvenirs we provided, we hoped participants would gain something meaningful. In the future, when they look back at these mementos, we hope they will remember the message we conveyed about animal mistreatment and that our efforts will inspire them to spread awareness within the community.
AECOM’s FastTrack CityHack Singapore 2022 was a weekend-long, in-person hackathon held from November 25 to 27, 2022, at AECOM’s Singapore office. My team participated in Challenge 8: Digital Inclusion, where we created an interactive screen to help the elderly adopt natural habits and familiarize themselves with smartphones and tablets.
DESIGN THINKING:
AECOMM was rather interesting as part of a design thinking competition as we were paired with people from different background where we are able to utilize our expertise from and all cotribtue together with our own technical knowledge and our thinking skills with the guide of our mentors.
PROTOTYPE SIMULATION:
HYBRID PLATFORM:
Recognizing Singapore’s growing aging population, we aimed to bridge the digital divide by creating a virtual experience tailored for seniors from the traditional era. As the nation advances as a smart city, we wanted to ensure they are not left behind due to a lack of familiarity with modern technology. Our solution involved a virtual experience screen that simulates physical interactions, allowing seniors to engage in daily activities in an immersive way. This not only enhances their daily lives but also helps them gradually adapt to and familiarize themselves with smart technology.
Enabling Everyone aims to make pop-up markets more accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities. Inspired by a visit to the Enabling Village, it identifies retail barriers and offers a guide with best practices like sensory-safe zones, spacious layouts, and assistive technologies. A model pop-up market has also been designed to showcase these principles, promoting inclusivity and better retail experiences.
ENABLING EVERYONE:
Through our guidebook, we wanted to provide an encouragement for retail buisness to adopt some design strategies in order to alter their buisness into creating a more inclusive space, such as Braille trail menus for the visually impaired and lower countertops for wheelchair users, creating a more accessible and welcoming space for all.
ENABLING EVERYONE:
This is the envisioned design of our guidebook, outlining practical strategies for creating inclusive retail spaces. It will feature clear, user-friendly layouts with sections on accessibility improvements, such as Braille trail menus for the visually impaired and lower countertops for wheelchair users. The guide aims to be an informative and actionable resource for businesses looking to enhance inclusivity in their spaces.

It was important to communicate effectively, share the workload, and motivate one another during challenging moments. This collective effort allowed us to overcome obstacles, stay focused on the end goal, and ensure the event ran smoothly.
ROLE AS A NDP MOTIVATOR:
As a motivator, my role involves guiding and encouraging participants by offering clear instructions, maintaining high morale, and ensuring everyone stays engaged. Through this experience, I’ve learned the importance of managing my social battery to stay energized, keeping a positive attitude, and maintaining high spirits. By doing so, I can inspire others, help them stay focused, and contribute to a positive and smooth event for all involved.
YOUTH EXPEDITION PROJECTPHO-NOMENAL (SOUTH VIETNAM)
Volunteer | 31/03/2022 - 13/04/2024
During my time in the Youth Expedition Project (YEP) - PHO-NOMENAL in South Vietnam, I spent two weeks doing community service, including teaching, housekeeping, and construction. We rotated shifts to complete these tasks, which helped me develop leadership skills, adaptability, and cultural understanding while making a positive impact on the community.
COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Through the Youth Expedition Project (YEP), I gained experience in road construction and teaching children from different language backgrounds. I learned that working in classrooms without modern equipment, as in rural areas, can be challenging. The lack of student care, public transportation, and other facilities made me appreciate the resources and support Singapore provides. Additionally, I developed a greater appreciation for the hardships and labor that construction workers face, realizing that construction is not an easy task.
CULTURE EXPERIENCE:
During the Youth Expedition Project (YEP) in Vietnam, we had the opportunity to experience the local culture through temple visits and by meeting neighbors who shared stories about their lives. Some locals spoke about the frequent flooding, which would sometimes last for days, halting their work and affecting their income. With the construction of the road, they expressed gratitude as it allowed them to navigate even during floods, unlike Singapore, where we have reservoirs to manage rainwater.
One notable experience was learning about a family that had to withdraw their children from school due to financial struggles. This taught me that while we may offer aid, we can’t solve everyone’s problems. Sometimes, life’s challenges are beyond our control, and while it may seem selfish, the best we can do is provide support and let others find their way.
