Lee Marley was established in 1997 and is the UK’s largest integrated masonry and scaffold company. Operating from offices in London, Reading, Glasgow and Leeds,

we

have the range and flexibility to operate nationwide. The company is underpinned by an uncompromising commitment to quality and a no-nonesense style of delivery.

Our scale, in addition to our extensive supply network, allows us to offer a comprehensive product range, from full material supply and installation, to labour-only contracts. We can also offer a full through the wall installation package, installed by our in-house staff, including fitting of masonry support, wind-posts, EDPM’s, fire barriers, SFS together with off-site produced brick slip soffits, lintels and arches.

Combine this with our scaffolding capabilities, and we take full responsibility for the building envelope, allowing our client’s management to focus valuable resources elsewhere.

Q UA L I T Y A S S U R A N C E

Quality across all trades is the cornerstone of our growth and reputation. Our in-house Systems Managers ensure that appropriate infrastructure and resources are in place at the start of each project. They also work with our Contracts Managers, project teams and Health and Safety teams to develop Project Quailty Plans and RAMS. Ensuring that the project workforce is fully briefed and given additional training where needed.

Our project teams utilise Procore and Field View to manage inspections, the audit trail and communication with our clients. Digital hold points are put in place to allow client sign off prior to progressing and to ensure NCR’s are dealt with immediately. All communication is submitted on our client’s preference of software.

A key part of our offering is a full cavity or through the wall service. All elements of this work including secondary steel/masonry support, fire barrier, insulation, SFS, blockwork, stonework and masonry are carried out by in-house operatives. This not only reduces our client’s management requirements on site but also offers the benefits of superior quality and performance.

Fire safety is of paramount importance in high rise construction. Lee Marley is independently accredited by International Fire Consultants Ltd to install vertical and horizontal fire protection within our façade or internal blockwork specialisms.

SAFET Y

Zero-harm is the starting point for safety at Lee Marley. Our in-house safety team, with specialists across all our trades, support our experienced project teams in planning activities, applying best practice and encouraging intervention if standards are not met.

Data is collated and monitored using our Procore online system. This includes health and safety reports, weekly plant, LOLER and harness inspections and PAT testing. Company and site inductions are carried out on the Causeway web portal providing a clear record of operatives understanding of risk assessments and method statements. The system is also used to capture operatives certified qualifications onto our digital training matrix.

Scaffolding requires absolute surety and confidence in its testing regime. All of our scaffolding is constructed and designed to TG20 regulations. Lee Marley uses Scafftag to electronically capture our scaffold inspection regime providing a clear audit trail and timing alerts to ensure our scaffolds conform to their design intent and use.

A powerful driver of developing a progressive culture is behavioural safety. An early adopter of the strategy Lee Marley developed an in-house programme ‘Think Smart Before You Start’ to reinforce a culture of planning and considering our behaviours before and during every activity that we undertake.

To develop a safety-first culture, provision must be made for operatives to provide feedback in a blame free way. To facilitate this, Lee Marley provides a QR code driven system that allows operatives to report near-miss events or provide feedback anonymously. This data is then analysed and acted upon. It also forms a key part of our Management Board reporting and continual improvement within our business management system that is audited to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.

WELLBEING

Our core trades involve hard work and focussed deadlines, meaning that a toll may be paid on both the body and mind. This in turn can put the individual and their co-workers in danger on the job if they are unable to focus on the task in hand. It can also cause harm away from the workplace.

We are highly cognisant of this hidden danger and a core part of our safety team’s remit is to ensure that our operatives have the correct support at hand. Consequently, we offer health checks for high-risk staff and have a mental health champion who sits on our management board and an in-house mental health first aider

CAREERS

People are the heart of Lee Marley. The recruitment and development of talent is integral to the continued success of the business. A dedicated Training Manager, who reports to our Managing Director, is responsible for our apprentices, graduates and the personal development of all our operatives.

APPRENTICESHIPS Lee Marley offers both brickwork and scaffolding apprenticeships in order to bring the next generation of tradespeople into the construction industry. The scale of our business enables us to offer over 40 places per year and gives the candidates a well-supported environment in which to learn their trade. Whilst we have long established relationships with a number of higher education colleges we are also in a position to take on apprentices as part of local labour requirements for our clients.

What sets our award-winning programmes apart from others is a combination of behavioural coaching and up-to-the minute technical instruction. The training offered goes beyond current apprenticeship requirements with specialist modules taught in-house to complement the curriculum provided by our college partners. This not only helps apprentices to become more productive more quickly, but also ensures that they are confident to operate in a fast paced high-risk environment.

Apprentices that show managerial promise are encouraged to take on more responsibility under the wing of an experienced site supervisor and are supported through their SSSTS and SMSTS for brickwork supervisors or their Advanced Scaffolder or CISRS Supervisor qualification for scaffolders.

GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT SCHEME The company works in partnership with the Built Environment Department at Reading University to recruit trainee quantity surveyors and construction managers onto our graduate development scheme. We support trainees through their Assessment of Professional Confidence for either the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or the Chartered Institute of Building offering in-house, supply chain led, or professional CPD’s in order to attain their chartered status. In addition, Lee Marley offers both summer and sandwich year placements for students who have just completed their second year of studies.

CAREER LONG LEARNING The continual professional development of our staff is key to the progression of our business. As well as a Training Manager we also have an in-house NVQ assessor that allows us to rapidly upskill operatives up to level three and we actively finance and support operatives that want to move on to site management positions up to NVQ level seven.

Industry essentials such as SSSTS, SMSTS, CISRS, IOSH and NEBOSH are also all supported.

Working with the Association of Brickwork Contractors, Lee Marley has developed eleven CITB accredited training modules focussing on modern methods of construction. This development has allowed us to upskill labourers to more specialist roles such as the installation of masonry support, insulation and fire barriers. Upskilling of local labour and providing a transferable qualification is seen as a significant value added offering by our clients.

We also invest in the development of our logistics and support staff and training for transport managers, lifting operations and human resources.

Brickwork is once again coming to the fore in façade construction as clients look to take advantage of the lower life-time costs of masonry and architects consider using fast developing off-site production methods to utilise the enduring aesthetics of masonry in ever more detailed designs.

We utilise our extensive base of highly-skilled staff and network of suppliers to ensure our client’s requirements are fully realised. When involved at planning and design stages we are able to advise on ways to make the building easier to construct and reduce costs whilst still achieving architectural detail.

On site we bring a high calibre of management to ensure that the programme is met without compromising safety or quality on all our projects.

Lee Marley specialises in installing natural, precast and GRC stone in both mixed brick/stone and pure stone façades. Predominantly focussing on new build we also have the capability to repair and clean existing stonework as part of our scope of works.

We work with clients and our supply chain from an early stage to ensure that design and production are harmonised. This combined with modern methods of construction leads to a quicker, more efficient build.

Working with both natural and precast stone we engage with clients and architects from design through to installation in order to bring their vision to fruition.
