By dispersing the clearings and scattering spaces of different functions throughout the floor plan, employees of different teams will pass by other clearings daily, creating a chance for spontaneous encounter and collaboration across teams.

Live plants, which studies show can increase productivity and creativity, are used to provide visual separation between different volumes, and signifies “breathing” space where workers can relax and recuperate.

THE CREATIVE JUNGLE

Designed for a newly established branding agency, this office space aims to help facilitate team collaboration by organizing space based on the smallest operational units: “tribes” (close-knitted team consisting of manager and supporting members). Each tribe is given a “clearing” - an open space in the office jungle that is surrounded by ample storage and worktops. Inside the clearing is an open space that the tribe leader and their team can customize. Team managers, other than the founding partners, will be seated among their members in the clearings, reflecting the egalitarian work culture of Pentagram. Having a relatively private "turf" in the office help create a sense of ownership & foster camaraderie within each team.

Located in a vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood, the Forest Cafe aims to provide respite for Brooklynites escaping from the hustle and bustle of the busy Atlantic Avenue. Indoor walls are retrofitted with the Florafelt wall garden system that utilizes hydropinics to sustain this indoor oasis. The single bathroom is updated to meet ADA standards. Custom CNC-cut backlit panels serve as decorative lighting and highlights the cafe's location in the neighborhood.

"The Link" is not just a train that links two places together, it's a community space where travelers come together to share experiences. Its multi-level deisgn incorporates various froms of linking strategies, creating a dynamic and innovative space. From the physical linking of destinations to the creation of a shared experience, everything about "The Link" is designed to connect people and places. The goal is to elevate the traditional sleeper car experience while keeping train travel affordable.

THE LINK Built-in bunks that incorporate various transformation allows for more bunks in the existing Amtrak sleeper train car, with the hopes that this will overnight train travel costs down, while creating a new experience for travelers.

"Hidden Lights" aims to evoke a sense of curiosity within visitors by using light emitted from displayed Akaris to guide circulation along a path of discovery. Upon entering, the Akaris are initially contained and hidden from view but their light is visible- framed and directed by boxes to entice viewers to walk through the showroom. Upon nearing the boxes, open corners reveal the Akaris allowing them to be fully viewable. The displays employ open-box assemblies and smaller scaled alcoves to provide diverse ways of seeing the variously sized Akaris. The spatial layout sequentially creates corners, aiming to promote discovery of the variety of displays.

This project stemmed from research on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global issues that design can help resolve. Zooming in on the water crisis in Ethiopia’s Gambella region, which suffers floods and droughts during different seasons, our team looked into nature to find solutions that could help the local ingenious Anuak people. Our proposal is based on a study of local buildings and materials, utilizing nature’s strategies to collect and preserve water while maintaining a lightweight structure that can float during a flood, and collect rain water that irrigates a community garden to provide extra food for the community during the dry season.

As the leader of this close knitted group of 3 interior design students, I orchestrated weekly Zoom meetings, set and ensured achievement of weekly goals, delegated tasks, consolidated group research & design ideas, and prepared final presentation slides to ensure the results of our 12 week research & design endeavor can be best showcased and properly understood by jurors unfamiliar with the project.
