In the grand tapestry of the cosmos, where celestial bodies dance to the ancient rhythms of time, the Leeds RAG Fashion Show, "Eclipse," draws its essence. This event is not just a spectacle of style but a profound narrative of self and society. Like a solar eclipse, where the moon dares to veil the sun in a fleeting, forbidden embrace, this fashion show is an audacious rebellion against the archetypes cast upon us by the world. Here, individuals reveal their lunar essence, the hidden self, often overshadowed by the blinding expectations of the solar stereotype. "Eclipse" symbolises the poignant defiance of cosmic law the sun and the moon, eternal lovers, denied union by the celestial script. It is in this rare, transformative moment of the eclipse that they converge, defying the very rules written in the stars. This fashion show is an allegory for the human spirit striving against societal norms, a canvas where the darkened moon reflects our deepest truths, and the obscured sun acknowledges the beauty of our hidden selves. It's a celestial performance, where mythology breathes through the weft of fabrics, and the runway becomes a realm where forbidden tales of love—like that of the sun's for the moon—are told in silence and light.

Mission

The Leeds RAG Fashion Show, themed "Eclipse," boldly challenges societal norms, celebrating individuality as a cosmic rebellion against expectations. Our mission is to stand against repression of any form and create a world where everyone can shine unapologetically. Beyond fashion, the event supports mental health and sexual health in marginalised communities, aiming to break down barriers and foster inclusivity. "Eclipse" becomes a powerful platform for self-expression, contributing to positive social impact by embracing authenticity and illuminating the beauty within each individual.

Vision

Our vision is bold, our message is clear. We celebrate the authenticity of the individual, challenging the audience to see beyond conventional archetypes. Through innovative design, evocative music, and transformative staging, we will create a space where the eclipse is not just observed but felt, where the boundaries of day and night merge in a dance of defiance and beauty.

Objectives

To empower: Provide an unfiltered platform, breaking down societal barriers and amplifying voices that yearn to be heard, allowing the lunar essence to shine brightly. To advocate: Rally on behalf of important causes, leveraging the runway as a powerful platform to raise awareness, destigmatize conversations, and support those in need. To celebrate: Let the runway become a realm where individuals celebrate their unique stories. To spotlight: Showcase the vibrant fusion of art and fashion on the runway, celebrating the creativity and authenticity of emerging voices. To eclipse: In this rare, transformative moment of the eclipse, cast aside the shadows that obscure our authentic selves, embracing the unconventional and the disregarded in a dazzling fashion display.

Yorkshire MESMAC

Yorkshire based MESMAC is one of the largest sexual health charities in the UK. They offer services such as counselling, training, and group sessions on sexual health. MESMAC is catered towards everyone including the LGBTQ+ community, sex workers, and marginalised communities. MESMAC aims to eliminate social and health inequalities by educating and empowering communities with the skills and resources to life safely without fear nor stigmas. The Leeds RAG Fashion Show have decided to partner with MESMAC this year because we strongly believe in the values they promote such as inclusivity and openness.

Ditch the Label UK is one of the Leeds RAG Fashion Show’s chosen charities this year. It is a global youth charity aiming to help 12–25-year-olds navigate relationships, bullying, identity, and mental health by offering advice and support. They create an online safe space for young people to have easy access to, so they can seek help when they need it most and to give them the opportunity to unite in their experiences.

Fundraising allows them to do ground-breaking research; provide personalised advice from mentors; produce free curriculums to combat bullying through education and give young people voices through their campaigns.

Leeds Nightline

Leeds Nightline is a well-established charity that caters to the unique needs of students in the vibrant city of Leeds. Its aim is to offer support during the quiet hours of the night, where the stillness of darkness may be too heavy for students facing various challenges when many other support services are unavailable. The heart of the charity is their team of extensively trained student volunteers who dedicate their time to offer empathetic and non-directive support. Leeds Nightline is an essential part of the student community, fostering mental health and well-being by ensuring that students have a safe and supportive space to discuss their concerns during the often isolating night time hours. It plays a vital role in promoting a healthier and more resilient student population, ensuring that students are not alone in their struggles and have access to the help they need, precisely when they need it.

In the second scene, we draw inspiration from Eos, the goddess of the dawn and the radiant sun. Picture the sun brightening up the morning skies, bringing warmth and smiles to all. The sun symbolises creation and warmth—an explosion of power and life. Powerful, extroverted, and bright, it holds a burning intensity, allowing only the moon to draw near.
