We Are Concerned Students We are concerned because our landfill is almost full. We want all schools to use plastic trays!

Styrofoam Things like Styrofoam sometimes never decompose. If the Styrofoam has access to oxygen it might take about 500 years to decompose, or even longer.

What is Styrofoam made of? Styrofoam is made of 90% air and 10% polystyrene.

Styrofoam Trays In just one school year our school has used about 54,000 styrofoam trays! For 4 schools in Burrillville that use styrofoam trays they use about 378,000 styrofoam trays a year! And ALL these trays go into our landfill!

According To Mrs.Lupis According to Mrs.Lupis our lunch lady, the only school in Burrillville that doesn't use Styrofoam trays is A.T.Levy.

According To Mrs. Hall According to Mrs.Hall, Recycling Coordinator from the town of Burrillville, she also believes that Styrofoam takes about 500 years to decompose.

KWD Mrs. Hall has informed us that the only place where you can recycle styrofoam is KWD, which is in North Smithfield.

Q: • Why don’t we send our styrofoam trays to KWD? • Why don’t we use biodegradable trays? • Wouldn't it save money to use plastic trays?

Send Answers We would appreciate your emailing the answers to our questions to Mrs.Auclair as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for answering.
