College Bestows Record Number of Gold Community Service Awards and Leads First International Service-Learning Trip In a year that witnessed an increased number of community service hours for the sixth consecutive year—23,810 hours in total—it is not surprising that LVC also awarded a record number of individual Gold Community Service Awards. Community Service Awards recognize outstanding service to the local community by individuals and student organizations. Individual students earn the Gold Award for more than 100 hours of service and completion of a three-day residential service project. In 2013–2014, 28 LVC students qualified for the Gold Community Service Award, 12 more than the previous year. Many of these record-setting service hours were earned by students while studying abroad or during the College’s first-ever international service-learning trip. Through a collaboration between the Department of Languages, the Office of Community Service and

three faculty members received a President’s Innovation Fund grant to travel to Peru in May.
