Petition against plans on PO site By ANDREA VILLIERS

A flyer circulated to nearby residents quickly gathered more than 60 signatures. The new owner of the property had requested the removal to make room for a garage at the back of the property. On Aug. 19 last year a city by-law inspector visited the site and determined the tree could be destroyed because of a problem where the trunk splits into two branches. The Silver Maple measured about 18 feet in circumference at its

He got 56 neighbours to sign. Many of them expected townhouses to be built, he said. Their biggest concerns are “height, scale, density and traffic”. A Tree Falls in Leaside … and a big stink breaks out on the street By ANDREA VILLIERS If a tree falls in Leaside does anyone care? It certainly seems so. A massive heritage Silver Maple was taken down by the city in October last year on private property on Southvale Dr. near Hanna Rd. As the tree came down over a two-week period neighbours started questioning why there was no notification or community consultation. Consequently the neighbourhood group Leaside Trees was formed by concerned citizens, most of whom live near the site.
