STUDENT PROJECT LEADS TO 100 TREES BEING DONATED TO HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL, PLANTED BY VOLUNTEERS LEESBURG, VA – March 29, 2019 – Heritage High School announced today that it is the recipient of a generous tree donation by Learning Tree International, a global IT and professional development training company. The initial donation was doubled by Meadows Farms, one of the largest independently owned nursery and garden centers in the country. In total, 100 trees will be planted at Heritage on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at 520 Evergreen Mill Road in Leesburg.

Student-driven environmental stewardships inspired the tree-planting effort. Heritage students Madison Ebersole, Aya Purdy and Natalie Tidler suggested adding trees to Heritage’s campus during Steve Hummer’s Government class. Other student-suggested initiatives include increased use of reusable water bottles and bottle fillers and increased recycling education, which were also implemented.

Learning Tree is delighted to include Heritage as part of its #TREEvolution initiative. #TREEvolution is all about transformation and renewal, as Learning Tree unveils the next evolution of its blended learning ecosystem to transform the professional training industry landscape, and supports Heritage’s effort to transform its landscape as well.

The trees, supplied by Meadows Farms, are Green Giant Arborvitaes, and will help cut down the cross winds while beautifying the campus. Volunteers will help plant the trees and do spring clean-up as part of city-wide Keep Leesburg Beautiful activities. Heritage Athletic Boosters will be joined by student organizations, varsity and club teams, and community partners and sponsors for the planting. Rock Water Farm and Meadows Farms will be on hand to provide planting assistance and advice. “This is a visible example of how Heritage students are making meaningful contributions to the world,” says Jeff. Adam, Principal of Heritage, “We are fortunate to have developed strong ties to businesses and individuals in our community who help make the learning experience come alive.” Athletic Director JJ Totaro agrees, “A day of spring clean-up and planting shows the kind of initiative and spirit of service found here. It’s just one of many ways our students and athletes project the high standards and values of Heritage as they care for the environment.”
