Global Investment Management Organization
To Optimize Excel Training Company-Wide
This Global Investment Management Organization uses Excel workbooks to help them in their decision-making process in all aspects of the business. Workbooks had been automated and passed on to other employees to use, and there were workbooks that required much maintenance due to increased manual tasks. As the IT department did not have the resources to assist every employee with their spreadsheets, they wanted their employees to begin to support themselves, to adapt macros for changing processes and to become more productive by potentially automating manual processes.
CHALLENGE: The organization wanted to address three key challenges: • IT support is over-stretched • Workbook solutions losing value • Poor workbook maintenance leads to poor decision making To address these challenges, the organization searched for a solution that would improve staff skill levels and their ability to support their own workbooks. The solution needed to fulfil three requirements. 1. Identify the skill level and development path for each individual within the organization. 2. Contextualized training to include technologies and data specific to their organization. 3. R eturn on investment through skill improvement measurements.

SOLUTION: Learning Tree developed a program of VBA training modules at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, and Excel modules at two levels. This provided tailored entry points for staff to build on their current skill level. Pre-existing proprietary Learning Tree content was leveraged to provide a cost-efficient development process as well as incorporating organization-specific content. To measure staff’s current skill levels, Learning Tree created a series of private VBA and Excel skills assessments to determine personal learning paths for each staff member. Skills assessment administration was managed by Learning Tree and staff took the assessments utilizing our convenient online skills assessment tool. Emails to staff to access their assessments were customized to the organization’s messaging and results were shared at the individual and organizational level. Based on the assessment results, the orgnization’s learning and development group was able to plan a learning path for each staff member so they could attend just those modules required to fill their knowledge gaps.

They implemented testing and review after each pilot delivery to make any necessary adjustments to courses.
