PRIZES, GRANTS, & GIVEAWAYS April 1, 2020, is Census Day. Statistics in Schools is a US Census Bureau program that stresses the importance of making sure everyone is counted, especially children. Worksheets for all grade levels introduce children to the concept of data and the importance of numbers, from counting for PreK and kindergarten students to examining career statistics for high school students. Download free teacher and student materials at census.gov/schools. You don’t need a school garden to enter the Carton 2 Garden contest, but you do need at least 100 empty milk and juice cartons. Repurpose them into a unique garden creation, and your K–12 school could win the grand prize valued at $5,000. Fourteen other winners get prizes valued from $1,000–$2,000. Submit your entry at kidsgardening.org/2019-2020-carton-2-garden-contest by the deadline on April 1, 2020.

Teachers in grades K–12 who include weatherrelated content in their science courses are invited to apply for the Project Atmosphere Workshop, held July 26–August 1, 2020, at the National Weather Service Training Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The online and in-person course covers the latest technologies in weather forecasting and includes travel, food, lodging, and instructional materials. Apply by March 27, 2020, at ametsoc.org/ ProjectAtmosphere.
