INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY A COLLECTION OF WOMEN-CENTERED RESOURCES FROM SOME OF THE LADIES AT

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we must hold space for girls and women who are unable to mark achievements and advancements. Many women are deprived of basic rights, globally, and we must continue to be action centered until they are able to progress with those of us who hold power, positionality and privilege.

Women around the world have worked tirelessly fighting for access to equal opportunities. This fight for parity is seen in education, employment, nutrition, financial services, housing, reproductive rights, citizenship, and climate justice. In different regions, we see women united in community working together to support each other through natural and man-made disasters. At the intersection of climate and gender justice, we find women who are demanding the right to live with dignity and respect. In the United States, we witness BIPOC women still fighting acts of racism and divisive rhetoric that promotes violence against historically and continuously marginalized groups. We see the disparities in choices women have, especially mothers, as they flee violence, famine and war.

We uplift and honor the women who have helped us get to where we're at. We also recognize and honor those who are on their way. We will do our part to further our learning and growing so that others can eventually thrive.

We’ve curated some material that educates, highlights and encourages female accomplishment. The women of LE have collaborated and invite you to read, listen and learn more with resources ranging from poems, books, websites, films and more, about women, for women, by women to help us continue to inspire one another, as we fight the good fight.

"The Mushroom Hunters"

by Amanda Palmer A poem shared by Software Developer Misha Robosova I saw this lovely animated poem by Neil Gaiman called "The Mushroom Hunters" (read by Amanda Palmer) recently. A YouTube link is here.

Excerpt that I enjoyed: Before the flint club, or flint butcher’s tools, The first tool of all was a sling for the baby to keep our hands free and something to put the berries and the mushrooms in, the roots and the good leaves, the seeds and the crawlers.

And here’s an article about the poem that says this about it: “…a work of lyrical storytelling tracing the history of our species as the sensemaking, truth-seeking animal who hungers for knowledge and advances by love. At its heart is an imaginative antidote to women’s erasure from the selective collective memory we call history.”

It was written on an opportunity for “celebrating women’s underheralded contribution to science."

The Women's Foundation of California Shared by Director of Financial Operations Sarah Setiawan I’m a big fan of the Women’s Foundation of California and their roadmap to a feminist future, working toward racial, economic, and gender justice. Blogging, Podcasting, and Soccer Shared by Head of People & Culture Rosanna Domino Tripp I follow A Mighty Girl to read about female role models and discover empowering books and toys for girls and The Female Lead podcast to learn from other women's stories.

As a soccer fan, I've been keeping an eye on the pay discrimination lawsuit filed against U.S. Soccer by the U.S. Women's National Team - four time World Cup winners! and was hearted by the recent victory of a $22 million back pay settlement.

I've always cheered for my local men's professional soccer team, lacking a women's team to root for. With that in mind, I am excited about the new LA-based Angel City soccer team which will take the pitch for the first time this year.

With mostly female ownership and investors, this team is joining the National Women's Soccer League to shake things up from the offices to the locker room. Role models are important, and progress can feel slow so I am celebrating these two small steps forward.

The Women's March, Anti-Racism Resources, and Other FemaleCentered Stories Shared by Communications Lead Carine Diaz I have to say that over the years, I've been constantly inspired by women, not only by the incredible women in my life but also those I see on the news, social media, books, films, websites and whose stories of resilience, dignity and courage inspire me to constantly strive to be better. More recently, the Women's March against Donald Trump is an event that still brings chills to my spine. What a beautiful display of global unity and strength!

Other than that, here are a few more things that help me learn from and admire women even more: Website: Anti-Racism Daily by Nicole Cardoza is a daily source of anti-racist education that makes you think deeply about your roles and responsibilities in helping create an antiracist society.

Book: Women Who Run With the Wolves - This is one book that has impacted me profoundly when I first read it in my early 20's and one that, coincidently, most of the women in my life have read also, regardless of their age, nationality, race or identity.

Film: Being Brazilian-Australian, I'd love to highlight some of my countries' filmmaking. Here is a list of films that tackle women's fight to break biases of gender equality and stereotypes from The Commons, a social change library, that I absolutely love. Khabar Lahriya Shared by UX Researcher & Implementations Manager Riddhi Avlani One of my favorite instagram pages is Khabar Lahariya, an alternative & independent journalism by an all-women team of reporters from the Indian hinterland.

I think the Indian hinterland is conveniently ignored by the mainstream media and to see these everyday women, going out in the field (rural india is very conservative), interviewing men, asking questions and bringing stories to the forefront, stories of the women to the forefront is extremely inspiring.

Indian media is dominated by men and Khabar Lahriya breaks that stereotype and has emerged as the only news media run by Dalit women.

A documentary on Khabar Lahariya called ‘Writing with Fire’ was nominated for Oscars this year. The documentary follows chief reporter Meera and her journalists and how they break traditions, be it on the frontlines of India's biggest issues or within the confines of their homes, and redefining what it means to be powerful

A Podcast, Book, and Show Recommendation Shared by Global Community Lead Laura Danforth Podcast: We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle - This has been my favorite from the last year. These ladies beautifully articulate so many of the things women feel and go through.

Book: The book that stuck with me the most from last year was Unbound: My Story of Liberation and the Birth of the Me Too Movement by Tarana Burke. There is so much bravery, vulnerability, and strength in her work and in sharing her story.

Show: Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You is a must-see, as is the story about how she turned down a $1 million offer from Netflix when they refused to allow her to retain any percentage of the show’s copyright.
