How To Use This Journal

Your final year of school is a culmination of years of friendship, learning, hoping, daring and dreaming. It’s a time of goal setting and grit, but also of reflection and gratitude.

This journal is designed to help you capture the many beautiful and challenging moments along the journey, while supporting your wellbeing in a way that guides you through these next few months.

As you go through this next year, remember to reach out to friends and family along the way. Don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it or to check in with your friends to see how they’re going as well.

Be open and honest with yourself on these pages. As you record your hopes and dreams, don’t be afraid to be bold and daring. Remember – you must first dream in order for them to come true.

It’s our hope that, many years from now, you would still turn each page of this journal fondly, as you are reminded of the friends, interests, thoughts and feelings you had during this time. We wish you well on your journey. Be brave of heart and true of spirit.

May your past be a pleasant memory, Your future filled with delight and mystery, Your now a glorious moment, That fills your life with deep contentment.

Core Values

Right now, you’re probably spending time thinking about what you want to do when you finish school. Perhaps even considering how you can make a difference in the world. The answers to these big questions are linked to your core values.

Everyone has their own set of values – only you can determine what they are. Our values are something we continuously aim to live and move towards.

Our core values are the things that are most important to us. They’re usually reflected in the way we feel, speak, think and act.

Living in line with our core values is key to making life feel meaningful. Knowing what matters most to you and, therefore, who you are, can also help you to feel less worried about what others think about you.

So, next time you’re struggling to make wise and healthy choices, to stand up for what you believe in, or to activate your willpower, start by reminding yourself about what you believe matters most.

Try This

If you’re feeling anxious, depressed or down, consider whether you’re making choices that are out of sync with your values, then have a conversation about this with a trusted adult.

Food for Thought

Knowing your core values helps to uncover a path toward a meaningful and satisfying life.

Idea

At the end of each day, take a moment to reflect on your core values and how you enacted them throughout your day.

Valuable Conversations

Use the questions below to engage in some values-based conversations with others this week!

What made you smile today?

What would a 'perfect' day look like for you?

How have you changed over the past year?

What message would you write in the sky for millions of people to see?

Motivation

Motivation is an important factor in driving us to create change. However, why is this desire for change sometimes more or less intense, and what causes us to feel motivated in the first place?

So, how can you increase your motivation to achieve a goal or to enable change, when you’re just not that interested in the task itself? Try these five steps below:

1. Make sure your goals are clear – know what you’re striving toward and why.

2. Acknowledge yourself as the centre of control – you have power to exact change!

3. Realise that you have choices – recognise that life is not happening to you.

4. Show commitment and care for what you are doing.

5. Ensure you’re facing an appropriate level of challenge and seek out new and interesting experiences.

Food for Thought

Motivation can mean sometimes needing to focus on what we want most rather than what we want now.

Try This

Identify how your goals align with your core values, to increase your motivation.

Idea

Need a study buddy? Team up with someone and keep each other accountable regarding your assignments and exams.

Personal Prompting Proverbs

Write some sayings, quotes or positive affirmations below that you find inspiring. Read these when you need some extra encouragement or need something to spur you into action!

Receiving Compassion

Reflect on times when others have shown you compassion. Maybe a gentle touch on the shoulder when you were feeling down. Someone who took the time to listen to you completely. A hug from a friend, right when you needed it most. Write some of these moments below and reflect on the kindness and compassion of others, and the impact this has had on you personally.
