Home Study Sessions
How do you study effectively? Have you been shown how to study effectively? Before you begin a study session, it is rewarding to prioritize your study:
• use travel time to organize what you will study and in what order so you can apply yourself once you arrive home
• set yourself a specific task to achieve in each session
• begin with subjects that have the most pressing deadlines and that you find the most difficult. In these Study Sessions :
• concentrated, uninterrupted quality application for 50 minutes
• have a break and get ready for your next Study Session for 10 minutes
• at times when you are a little tired, another strategy is to study for 25 minutes with a 5-minute break
• break larger or more complex tasks down into smaller, more manageable ones
• write daily summaries of work covered in class in your own words, listed under main points
• record your plan for different problems; create a logical series of steps or a list or flowchart
• practise skills learned by doing problems, exercises and essays
• do a 5-minute revision of what you have done in the session. This can help to embed information in your long-term memory. These sessions are the backbone of your study program.

Home Learning Sessions
To maximize your ability to study effectively it is essential to be an organized learner. To get the best out of your learning, study is required at home daily, including weekends. Studying provides you with a challenge to extend yourself, follow up on topics that interest you, make new connections with what you already know and transfer knowledge, skills and attitude across subjects. The best way to do this is to break up the time into study sessions. The number of sessions you do depends on your year level and how well organized your study habits are. At the beginning of each week, you should create a weekly plan of when you will allocate time to all of your activities; home learning sessions, sports, friends, relaxation, etc.
Each Home Learning Session is 40 minutes in length and made up of 30-minutes uninterrupted work followed by a 10-minute break.
To make sure you stick to these times, put reminders in your phone of when to begin, when to have a break and when to end home learning sessions. You will find that 30 minutes will test your concentration span; with practice you will be able to increase it. Set appropriate and manageable goals. If you are tired, break up your time into smaller pieces. This will help you to develop your focus and allow you to concentrate for longer periods over time. Actions What

Home Learning and Study
As you progress through school, it is important for you to complete some learning sessions at home. This is made up of two parts:
• Home Learning –allows you to finish your classwork and gives you the opportunity to do your own learning on things that interest you.
• Study / Revision –storing what you have learnt in your long-term memory by revisiting it using Thinking Tools, making summaries and colourful Idea Maps A Home Learning and Study Session is 30 minutes
20 minutes full on, no break
10 minute break. Make the most of technology; put reminders in your phone of when to begin and end these sessions. You need to do at least one session each night. Fill out the home learning timetable on page 144. Set an alarm for yourself.

Academic Profile
You are probably well aware of the identity you promote on social media and the profile you project to the online community. You also have an academic profile which includes your developing skills, knowledge and attributes. How are you presenting this side of yourself? You can find more details in this planner on creating your résumé, but this is only part of the story. You want to show future university, college and employers that you are a well-rounded individual on a learning journey. If you are asked about your skills and attributes in an interview, how will you respond?
Use this planner to create a record of your skills, knowledge and attribute development. Create a folder where you can store evidence of demonstrating skills. It is like curating materials in a museum, make sure that you have a carefully logged record of your learning and achievements. If you have gained certificates for academics, sports, arts or service, make sure you can access them!
You can use this record of achievements and learning evidence to help you to create your résumé, your university application personal statement, and it provides you with evidence you can use in interview processes and evaluations.

Leading By Example
Being a part of the school community will present you with a multitude of opportunities for personal development, as well as providing a variety of ways to give back to your school community.
Your school provides you with opportunities to:
• access a high quality education
• engage in extra-curricular activities; sporting teams, debating clubs, etc.
• develop social skills through working with a variety of different people while on excursions and camps
• discuss and plan possible career options. It is equally important that you enthusiastically involve yourself in opportunities that interest you and demonstrate a willingness to accept greater levels of responsibility. Act as a proud ambassador for your school, enhancing its reputation. You should treat your school as a workplace and be prepared to take on a student leadership position and support your peers by leading by example. Help to create a collaborative and supportive school environment that you all benefit from. Potential employers view active school involvement and school leadership favourably. The following are some ways you could be involved in your school community: • join the student council

Revision and Remembering
When your brain doesn’t see something regularly, it thinks that’s not important and lets it go. Your effort in learning the content is lost. Revision or study is a constant activity. Every week spend 10 minutes on what you have learned on each subject. Create summaries, write lists, use flashcards, write a jingle, brainstorm or make colourful posters for you to refer to for each topic. The main thing is that it must be hands-on and active. Not revising is like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in it; you will remember your learning far better when you revise every week.
Wellbeing Tip
To build energy for life reduce sugar intake; energy thieves.
• join a school production
• coach sporting teams
• set up a ‘peer learning club’ so that students can support each other
• represent your school in co-curricular activities such as; sporting teams and debating tournaments. Take pride in your school, your school certainly takes pride in you.
Actions
What are two things that I will start doing to improve my focus on leading by example?
Mindfulness Activity
Spices and Tangs. Imagine you are eating your favourite spicy foods. What tangy tastes do you have, what smells fill your nose, how do they feel chewing and swallowing them?
Surround yourself with colour, it stimulates the brain.
Leaf Feelings. Cut a small piece off a plant and remove the leaves one by one. What does their texture feel like and how many are there?
