“Out of adversity a new caree
Brian had an active career as an Army Reservist and HGV Driver until he had to leave his job in 2008 due to serious health problems. He was referred to the Northfield Well-being Hub and took the opportunity to start a computer course. This led him to wanting to continue learning and he came to BAES in 2013. Brian sees his learning as a step to developing his career as a Transport Manager. He is keen to add to his English and computer qualifications by starting a Business Administration course. Brian is aware of how easily he could have just stayed home, unmotivated to do anything, however attending the courses has enabled him to socialise which is something he has always enjoyed doing. Speaking with Brian his passion not only for his own learning and development but the ability to support others is very evident. He says that his “give it a go” approach to not taking everything too seriously helps. If he passes that is a bonus and if not he can always try again. Keeping his mind active is the most important thing to him.
