The European Language Label is awarded each year to recognise creative and innovative languages initiatives. The initiatives in this compendium were awarded the European Language Label in 2018 and 2019. Language initiatives from all fields of education and training can receive the award, and projects can be large or small, accredited or non-accredited. Awards could go to a structured language course or an inclusive group that encourages language learning over a cup of tea and a bun; the only criteria is finding creative ways to improve the quality of language teaching and to motivate learners.
Coordinators of the winning initiatives speak about the motivation
for starting the language initiative, the impact it has had on learners,
and their suggestions for others to replicate their work.
We hope their advice will inspire you to set up your own language
initiatives – and perhaps even apply for the next award!
