seeing eye-to-eye | an aquatic education center for Baltimore’s Inner Harbor This project mediates between the polluted inner harbor and the pristine Baltimore Aquarium with a focus on fish and people. The aquatic education center has three main focuses: creating habitat for harbor fish, designing public spaces to increase swim and water confidence among Baltimore residents, and providing an opportunity for people to come face-to-face with fish through scuba diving.

measure twice | a wood pavilion that welcomes conversation Working in a team of 13, our studio designed and built a wooden pavilion using reclaimed wood from a Virginia farmhouse. The structure responds to the site conditions, mediating between an existing and constructed staircase. Following construction, a smaller team focused on an obsessive analysis of the material and construction process of the pavilion. Taking 3,866 measurements, we cataloged and constructed each individual component of the pavilion using Revit.

pillowy plants | a whimsical meander through a dream-like garden Bounded by a parking lot on the west, and a open field on the east, a path weaves through an old field, a wet meadow, and a tulip poplar forest. Driven by texture and the senses, I created rooms within each habitat type. In the drawings that follow, the ideograms and corresponding planted form spacing diagrams capture the essence of two of these rooms.

Group project with Sarah Pate Collaboratively, we developed the concept, built the digital model and created the drawings. Specifically, I worked on the section drawing, the GIS stormwater analysis, and the Rhino model.

subtle infrastructure | parking lots for a rainy day Using the stormwater runoff from a series of parking lots in Richmond, VA, we followed a systematic approach to manipulate the flow of water through the city. By changing the pavement through a series of slices, channels, and gravel patches the system increases infiltration and plays with the flow of water.

Group project with Kyle Gename and Lu Yu Together, our team conducted site & systems research, site analysis, field study, and concept development. Further along, we selected sites within the project to design further individually, while supporting process and drawing creation. Region-scale drawings were collaborative, site-specific drawings were my own.

guided growth | an irreverent design inspired by the Phragmites reed Our interventions in the Meadowlands embrace the seriousness of sea level rise with a realistic yet optimistic view. It is through this approach that we expand the tired and confining definition of “resiliency”.

We believe that resiliency requires humor and playfulness, as well as critical landscape infrastructures. We have planted, mown, uprooted, pushed over, and embraced ‘Phrag’ across the Meadowlands, leaning into its utilitarian capacity to hold nutrients and sediment.
