Denim on Denim
Denim is a chic take on the “Canadian tuxedo”. You will see a lot of denim washes and various silhouettes, such as oversized pants with a fitted blazer or a maxi skirt with a strapless peplum top. The combinations are endless with denim! This trend has occurred in the past. An example is Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wearing head-to-toe denim at the American Music Awards in 2001. Since this trend is so timeless, the target customer will range widely. I believe this is a macro trend and it is here to stay!
Sheers
Personally, Sheers is one of my favorite trends that is making a huge comeback and is in the increase on the fashion cycle. This trend can be worn so many different ways, like in the Michael Kors example to the left, as a ruffled skirt. We are also seeing a lot sheer dresses and tops. The great thing about sheer is that it can be paired with pretty much anything underneath. It is a very complimentative style. I believe the target customer will be people who want to play with their style and experiment with different materials. I can’t wait to see how this trend grows and adapts.
Oversized Blazers
This is definitely a nod to 80’s fashion. We saw this item a lot in that time period worn by business women. The Oversized Blazer with defined shoulders not only makes a strong statement but it also shows the flare for structured fashion. If I were styling this item I would dress it with something form fitting underneath to give equal proportions. I feel like this would be a micro trend with a possibility of it reappearing in the future, just because it is a very specific style.
Easy Dressing
I believe this trend was made specifically for me! I love minimalistic clothing with an added special touch. Easy Dressing can work for everyone. This trend was popularized in the 1990’s when people would wear simplistic items together, like slacks and a cropped cardigan. I hope that this is a macro trend and it keeps rising on the fashion cycle curve, because sometimes, less is more.
Modern Romantic
Modern Romantic is a whimsical trend that I feel like it is on the increase on the fashion cycle curve. This trend incorporates creative designs that are delicate and elegant. I like the example to the left from Alejandro Gómez Palomo. He pairs a sheer
floral embroidered top with distressed skirt jean pant. It has that light and moody vibe. I can see younger generations catching onto this trend. This one might also fall into the micro category, just because the definition of “romantic fashion” is always evolving.
