The micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) sector is considered the backbone of the Philippine economy. Due to the pandemic, countless businesses including MSMEs closed while the rest struggled to sustain operations and profitability. Sustainability also became the operative word amid the social and economic downturn, and ESG is now expanding its influence as a survival strategy in the post-COVID era. Positive changes are coming for MSMEs. Their accessibility to information, the consistent guidance given to them, and their upskilling and capacity building training are measures that support their long-term development.
