MESSAGE FROM THE CITY LIBRARIAN We had an amazing summer interacting with members of the community and welcoming newcomers. This is your library, and we are so happy to have you visit and participate in our many programs. We create them with YOU in mind!

Speaking of programming, the Summer Reading challenge was a big hit, and I’ve got good news: The fun doesn’t end with summer! Sign up for our Fall Reading Challenge to keep earning prizes as you read. The challenge is from September through November and is open to readers and learners of all ages. Scan the QR code on page five to register.

We’ve got a lot of new events and programs this fall. One I’m really excited about is Pop-Up Storytime at Fire and EMS Stations around League City. Be sure to check the locations on page six as we take the library to your neighborhood.

If you’re interested in the library coming to you, please let us know.

Along with Pop-Up Storytime, there are more events coming up for families and visitors of all ages like Día de los Muertos, Halloween at the Library, and the Harry Potter Yule Ball.

The Library Holiday Open House is back this year and better than ever! Join us at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 2 for Story Time with Santa Claus. Photos with Santa will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Then head to League Park for the lighting of the tree.

Spring Preview The Library is turning 50!

We are planning a Helen Hall Library 50th Birthday Celebration, so consider this your “save-the-date” for the birthday party on Saturday, February 19 2022.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten One of the most important things a caregiver can do is read to their little one! Reading is the pathway to readiness when a child enters kindergarten. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a nationwide public charity promoting early literacy. The program encourages caregivers to track the number of books they have read to their little ones. At Helen Hall Library, caregivers can use the Beanstack app to register and track books. There is a sticker for every 100 books read and a cute backpack when a child reaches the 1000 books.

Music and Movement

Come learn and grow. Gardening is a fun and healthy activity, allowing children to develop a love for nature, nutrition, selfsufficiency, and responsibility. Weather permitting, this program will be outside.

Join us for songs, movement, and playing with musical instruments.

Storytelling with audiobook narrator and voice actor Pearl Hewitt

Join us for this six-week series on understanding the ins and outs of today’s legal system. The local Bay Area Bar Association and their talented attorneys will answer all your burning questions, helping you navigate everything from your tricky Homeowner’s Association to how to best handle your recent traffic citation.

As we continue to welcome back our volunteers, we are creating new roles for those seeking to connect with Helen Hall Library in unique ways. The goal of Volunteer Services is to further the library’s mission by providing our volunteers the opportunity to experience an enriching environment and engage with the community. With volunteer positions to match most schedules and interests, we are confident you will find Helen Hall Library a highly rewarding place to serve. Drop-in Volunteers

The library is seeking motivated teens and adults with a desire to engage with their community on behalf of Helen Hall Library and our mission. For ages 12+, orientation and a 10-hour time commitment in no less than 2 months are required. Applications can be found on our website or can be completed in person at the Adult Reference Desk. Orientation dates listed below.

For those who are seeking to fill service hour gaps or just participate in the most exciting events taking place at Helen Hall Library and around the city, our drop-in volunteers are welcome! For ages 15+, these unique set of volunteers are notified of all upcoming events for which we need “all hands on deck!” No orientation required.
