Why is polyethylene film so prevalent in flexible packaging?

Most flexible packaging is made from polyethylene, also known as polythene and shortened as PE. Polyethylene continues to dominate the food packaging market because of its inexpensive price and vast array of adaptable qualities. Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) are two of the most prevalent types of polyethylene, along with High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE). Variations in thickness, density, and other characteristics distinguish a number of distinct PE kinds. Polyethylene sheets are often regarded as the best option for flexible packaging due to their many desirable characteristics, including good chemical and impact resistance, low coefficient of friction, light weight, and minimal moisture absorption. To give you an idea, in 2019 alone, it is predicted that over 22.67 million metric tons of polyethylene will be produced. Polyethylene films can be formed into many different kinds of packaging, including wraps, bags, sacks, and pouches.
