FOUNDER’S NOTE

FOUNDER AMBER OKOLO-EBUBE

Hey Tribe!

As I reflect on the countless conversations and connections made within our community in DFW, my heart swells with gratitude and pride Each testimonial shared, each moment of support extended, and every act of kindness shown, reaffirms the incredible impact we are making together.

It warms my soul to hear parents express how our community serves as a beacon of inspiration, a place where Friday marks not just the end of a week, but the beginning of renewed homeschooling vigor

Witnessing children forge friendships, witnessing growth and progress in every little victory, fills me with humility and pride We are not just a community, but a tribe united by a common purpose - a mission to nurture, support, and uplift one another in our homeschooling journey

To each and every one of you who contributes, participates, or simply shares our story, I extend my deepest gratitude Your presence, your support, and your belief in our vision propel us forward and make our community the vibrant, thriving ecosystem it is today

The bonds formed in our Parent’s lounge, the laughter echoing through our programs, and the unwavering support extended to those in need, all embody the spirit of unity and care that defines us.

With heartfelt thanks,

AmberO.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that LLA specializes in providing meaningful services to neurodivergent children? Eighty-five percent of our learner population is neurodiverse!

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?

The weeks are starting to go quickly and we had another amazing week at Leading Little Arrows. On Friday at tutorial, we had the pleasure of having Unique Speech Techniques bring their services to our facility. Their Social Club was a hit with both our neurotypical and neurodiverse learners. We saw Ms. Patrice calmly guide kids to take turns and socialize. The kids also learned about Lonnie Johnson and Mark Dean for our Great Inventors unit.

LEADING LITTLE ARROWS’ WEEKLY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

I Am Muhammad Ali by Brad Meltzer

Muhammad Ali was the leading heavyweight boxer of the 20th century and a charismatic, beloved public figure His objection to the military draft during the Vietnam War made him an icon for a generation, and his impact in sports and the Civil Rights movement is still felt today.

When the Schools Shut Down by Yolanda

An inspiring true story told by Yolanda Gladden as she remembers the time segregation was supposed to end, but ended up in shutting down public schools African American families in Farmville, Virginia got together and created schools in their own homes. This story pertains to the civil rights case Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka.

Brown girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woods

Raised in South Carolina and New York, Woodson always felt halfway home in each place. In vivid poems, she shares what it was like to grow up as an African American in the 1960s and 1970s, living with the remnants of Jim Crow and her growing awareness of the Civil Rights movement. Touching and powerful, each poem is both accessible and emotionally charged, each line a glimpse into a child’s soul as she searches for her place in the world.
