TUESDAY

Our time-traveling adventure began with a visit to a historic log cabin The children stepped back in time to experience the simplicity and charm of pioneer life. They learned about the daily lives of early settlers, participated in traditional crafts, and even tried their hand at some pioneer chores. This immersive experience provided a hands-on understanding of life in the past, sparking a deeper appreciation for history.

THURSDAY

We explored the rich tapestry of history through art at the Dallas Museum of Art. The children embarked on a journey across different cultures and periods, discovering how art has been used to tell stories, preserve history, and express creativity. They engaged in interactive tours and participated in art-making activities inspired by the museum ' s vast collection. This visit highlighted the connection between art and history, and inspire their creative expressions.

FRIDAY

We concluded our week with a trip to the George W Bush Presidential Center. This museum and library had numerous hands on experiences for our learners, including a replica of the Oval Office and the opportunity to do some presidential decision-making! The featured exhibit, Freedom Matters, uses interactive experiences, historical documents, and personal perspectives to highlight the importance of freedom in building a society that embraces each other and the peace that inclusivity brings. The learners experienced the history of community building, the impact of their decision-making, and learn more about how legislative documents influence history!

CAMPERS’ AT HOME

To extend the spirit of exploration and learning beyond our camp visits, here are three fun activities you can enjoy at home as a family!

PIONEERING ART SHOW

Inspired by our visit to the log cabin, spend a day making pioneer crafts. Try activities like candle making, weaving, or creating simple toys from everyday materials. This hands-on experience brings history to life.

After our visit to the DMA, create your own family art gallery at home. Encourage your children to make artworks inspired by different historical periods or cultures. Display their creations and have a mini art show!

PRESIDENTIAL

READING

Extend the excitement of our presidential experience by having an American themed storytime. Read books about presidents, historical figures and the journey to America! You can even set up an Oval Office space to recreate some of the stories.
