In addition to her legal and corporate secretarial qualifications, she is a Chartered Arbitrator (Kenya’s third female Chartered Arbitrator) and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Certified and Judiciary-accredited Mediator, an accredited Governance Auditor, and holds an MBA in Global Technology Management. Jackie was admitted to the Bar in 2001 and her professional career began at Walker Kontos Advocates, after which she held various c-suite positions in diverse sectors including real estate; the non-profit sector; and financial services having served as Group Company Secretary of the Jubilee insurance group overseeing the Group’s insurance and related operations in Eastern Africa and Mauritius, as Company Secretary and Head of Legal Services at Family Bank Limited, and as consultant program coordinator for the Ford Foundation (Kenya). In addition to her professional practice, she currently serves as a nonexecutive director on various boards including financial services, non-profit organisations, dispute resolution bodies and State corporations, and was recently appointed as Chairperson of the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA) by the President of the Republic of Kenya.
Patent Expert of the Year South Africa At van Rooy At van Rooy is chair of KISCH IP’s Executive Committee, and a Director in the firm’s Patent Department. He has a BSc Chemistry and Biochemistry from North-West University and B Proc from UNISA. He was admitted as an attorney to the High Court of South Africa in 1995 and registered as a patent attorney in 1998.

At has 30 years’ experience in specialist intellectual property law litigation and has successfully represented a wide range of international clients in patent and copyright litigation up to the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court of South Africa (https://collections.conco urt.org.za/handle/20.500.12144/36586). He has extensive experience in patent, design and copyright litigation, plant breeders’ rights and GMO litigation, Anton Piller type proceedings, pharmaceutical, agrochemical and veterinary product liability litigation and related regulatory matters, patent filing and prosecution in a broad variety of jurisdictions and fields of technology. His technical expertise includes life sciences, pharmaceuticals, veterinary sciences, agrochemicals, medical sciences, chemistry, biotech, biochemical sciences, microbiological sciences, plant breeders' rights and genetically modified organisms, product liability and mitigation of risk and damages, copyright litigation, IP licensing contracts and registered designs. At has successfully presented at several IP workshops at Universities and numerous conferences over the past 25 years. He has also authored and co-authored various Chapters and articles for both local and international publications.
