Skadden Founded by Marshall Skadden, Les Arps and John Slate on April Fools’ Day in 1948, Skadden began as a scrappy upstart among a sea of established “white shoe” law firms in New York. In one project, he accompanied the Prime Minister of the Republic of Djibouti H.E. Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed in the context of the attractiveness that the Djiboutian state wishes to develop in terms of banking establishments.

The Republic of Djibouti instituted in 2011, a banking law that encourages the installation on its territory of banking establishments and financial companies by the establishment of a regulatory and normative framework strict and precise, which benefits from the credibility offered by a member country of the OECD. The firm, therefore, is developing this incentive in such a way as to explain to the various investment funds and financial companies that there is in Djibouti the emergence of a real financial center, strong, secure and destined to become a major epicenter of African and international finance.

This project is all the more interesting as the installation of these institutions on Djiboutian territory will make it possible to finance the development of a digital-free zone, in the province of Obock, which will make Djibouti the leader of Africa in digital, by setting up a Data Center, a digital university, and a free zone promoting the establishment of companies linked to the digital economy.

The second innovative project is a French digital company called UNIRIS. UNIRIS has developed a secure and tamperproof technology that allows any key password or medium to be replaced as securely as a bank card chip by reading digital blood networks. The client also developed a principle of "Smart Contracts", which facilitates, verify and executes the negotiation or execution of a contract, completely autonomously. They can be triggered alone or from internal events such as transaction dates where consensus is a cross of information. At the same time, their client wished to develop a cryptocurrency trading platform by having launched its own Tokens, the UCOs. Mr. Romain says, “I am convinced, moreover, that India will soon forge a lasting partnership with UNIRIS.” Moving Progressively Ahead As the world is changing, Mr. Romain says, “Social and environmental paradigms are radically different today and are evolving at an impressive pace.

We must constantly be on alert, to the effect of not remaining reactive and to be able to deploy a proactive approach.

Proactive strategy results from the use of analyses to determine the best option to prevent a problem. During the implementation of this new strategy, continuous monitoring of progress is carried out and the provisions are adjusted accordingly to improve what does not achieve the expected result. On the contrary, the reactive approach amounts to dealing with problems in real-time, without prior analysis or planning, with results determined downstream of the proposal. The paradox arises from the fact that if a crisis occurs and we have to deal with the problems that result from it, it is because we did not anticipate or poorly. We must therefore be reactive at the beginning of crisis management, before being proactive.”

GFK Conseils-Juridis has opened a secondary law firm in Singapore and aims to strengthen its presence in Africa and Asia. They look forward to building local ties in destinations where they become a global solution to all legal and strategic problems.

She holds a law degree from the University of Athens with first-class honours and an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Sören was born in 1976. These deal with injuries to the feet, ankles, and lower legs, considering the long-term effect those injuries have upon mobility, gait and posture. These cases can arise from an injury sustained in the workplace, a road traffic or cycling accident, negligence in surgery, or other causes.

Where a patient has an injury that impacts their ability to walk, to be mobile or has continued pain Simon can get involved. The cases often require the use of bespoke made specialised insoles called “orthoses” which often help to optimise foot leg and back function and can include referral to a bespoke shoemaker if necessary.

Simon has completed his official expert witness training and holds a (CUBS) Bond Solon certificate. He was first registered with the Legal Services Commission as a Podiatric expert in 1985. He holds full Expert Witness institute insurance indemnity cover.

Arbitration Lawyer of the Year China Luming Chen About Luming Chen Mr. Chen is based in the JunHe Shanghai office. Before that, Mr. Chen was a partner at Jones Day, and was associated with Debevoise & Plimpton and O’Melveny & Myers in the US. Mr. Chen has broad experience in the resolution of complex international disputes through arbitration, litigation, mediation and negotiation. He has significant experience in project construction disputes, disputes arising under long-term purchase agreements, complex commercial, share and asset acquisition, and joint venture disputes, and disputes involving insurance and insolvency proceedings. In recent years, he has represented clients in a large number of disputes involving assets management contracts and PE investment contracts. Mr. Chen has helped foreign clients in the enforcement proceedings of foreign arbitral awards in Chinese courts under the New York Convention.

Mr. Chen has been on the CIETAC panel as an arbitrator since 1989. Over the years, he has heard a large number of disputes of a varied nature.
