Seaford College SPORT

Saturday, 29th November, 2025

Welcome from the Director of Sport

What a brilliant week it has been around the Senior School, one of those wonderfully full, fast-paced stretches where you look back and think, “How did we manage all of that?” But somehow, with the usual Seaford spirit (and a remarkable amount of coffee), we did.

We began with the fantastic news that on a recount, nearly £2,000 was raised for LooseHeadz last weekend, an outstanding effort. Thank you to every single person who contributed – it was a shining example of what this community can achieve when we pull together.

As if that was not enough excitement for one week, the U16 Boys received a visit from Harry Potter – the actual first-grade Wallaby, not the one who needs a wand to get out of trouble. Harry was brilliant; he is a great person and we were delighted to welcome him back. A huge thank you to Bear for making this happen.

Across the school, we have seen students achieving representative honours, some of them at a national level! We have teams producing some outstanding performances, and countless moments of skill, resilience, and joy. Whether on the rugby pitches, cross-country trails, netball courts, hockey fields, or the training grounds, Seaford students continue to impress and max out their opportunities.

Speaking of impressive, this week has also been huge for the students involved in Arcadia. Rehearsals, performances, schoolwork, sport… it has been quite the juggling act. If anyone deserves a lie-in on Sunday, it is that group. We are sure the next few nights will be something special, and if you haven’t already, a few tickets are still available.

Amid this blur of activity, I found myself returning to something I mentioned earlier in the week, an idea from Damian McGrath that struck a chord. He wrote about the quiet trap many of us fall into: doing good work primarily in the hope of a reward, a thank you, recognition or a return on investment. And when those things do not appear, frustration can creep in.

He referenced a line from The Bhagavad Gita, and I promise I am not about to launch a philosophy lecture, but here it is:

“You have the right to work, but never to the fruit of work… Those who are motivated only by desire for the fruits of action are miserable, for they are constantly anxious about the results of what they do.”

Now, I am not suggesting we all start quoting ancient texts, but the message is again simple and surprisingly relevant . If our motivation depends on applause, outcomes or comparison, these winter weeks can feel long and heavy.

But when we do the work because the work matters, supporting students, coaching them, guiding them, cheering them on is valuable in its own right. By all of us supporting each other, we take back control. We become less anxious about the scoreboard and more connected to the purpose. Paradoxically, that is often when our best work appears.

So, I want to say an enormous thank you, genuinely, to the whole Seaford College community

To our staff, who somehow keep everything running even when the calendar resembles a game of Tetris To our parents, who support with positivity, patience, snacks, umbrellas and unshakeable enthusiasm. To our students, whose energy, talent, humour and hard work make every busy week absolutely worth it.

Enjoy the sport, enjoy the performances and enjoy being part of a community that does the work because it matters.

Onwards, Seaford…

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme. Blue Blood – Seaford
