ALUMNI London Studio Centre is proud of all its Alumni, many of whom are currently working worldwide with dance companies, in musicals and mainstream theatre, from the West End to Broadway, in television, ďŹ lm and commercial dance. FACILITIES London Studio Centre took up residence in its premises in artsdepot in 2012. The partnership provides the conservatoire with rehearsal and performance spaces that facilitate LSC’s high quality training, and the building’s bright, contemporary feel has quickly provided the ideal atmosphere for London Studio Centre.

LSC’s facilities comprises of ten dance studios, two fully equipped performance theatres (Pentland - 450 seater, and Studio Theatre 150 seater), three acting rooms, four singing rooms, a library with IT suite and a seminar room. The triple-height atrium café and social areas also offer ample space for students to relax between classes.

STUDENT WELFARE SUPPORT London Studio Centre sees the welfare and pastoral care of its students as a vital aspect of its work.

A clear structure exists within LSC to facilitate this aspect of student services. LSC consults with dance industry bodies, such as One Dance UK and Higher Education partners, and is constantly looking to review and enhance its practices to provide students with the best possible support.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES At London Studio Centre we believe in learning through experience when it comes to performing. Performance is at the heart of our undergraduate programmes and is embedded in all three years of training, with over 60 performance opportunities per academic year.

Performing before a 'live' audience is an indispensable aspect of theatrical training, oering students a whole variety of experiences from auditioning, through rehearsals with established professional choreographers and directors, to the stresses and disciplines of a professionally devised production. These productions are staged in a variety of dierent venues, both in London and throughout the UK. They are all steered by an experienced professional team of lighting, sound and stage management technicians.

BA (HONS) THEATRE DANCE

CLASSICAL BALLET | CONTEMPORARY DANCE | JAZZ DANCE | MUSIC THEATRE Providing professional conservatoire training, the 3-year BA (Hons) programme is designed for students who have completed A Levels (or equivalent qualifications) and wish to train as professional dancers and musical theatre artists.

Students focus their training through specialist pathways in classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz dance or musical theatre. The programme celebrates and prepares students to take advantage of the breadth and diversity of professional opportunities in the dance and musical theatre industry. This programme is quality assured and awarded

by Middlesex University. Performance opportunities are built into the curriculum throughout all three years, ranging from in-house performances in our own fully equipped professional theatre to major London venues and elsewhere across the UK. In the first two years the core technique dance and musical theatre training is extended by specialist technical and performance skills and repertoire in pathways. Students also focus on expanding their versatility and developing additional areas of interest as they progress through the programme.

Classical Ballet students study virtuosity, pointe work, classical repertoire and pas de deux.

Contemporary Dance students build on Graham-based core training with Cunningham and Limón-based technique, contact improvisation and release techniques.

Jazz Dance students benefit from core work in Isolation Technique and different lyrical, theatre jazz and hip-hop styles.

Music Theatre students focus time and energy on singing and acting, combining those disciplines with dance performance.

LSC students benefit from regular exposure to industry practitioners, ensuring their technique and skills are industry ready. Graduates may be found performing in international dance companies, West End and Broadway shows, on film and television. They also achieve successful and sustainable careers in choreography, directing, arts management and education.

FOUNDATION COURSE The Foundation Course aims to prepare students successfully for professional training and helps them audition for major colleges offering mainstream dance and performing arts courses.

Technical training is focused on classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz dance, singing, acting, fitness and Stott-based Pilates technique. It is designed to provide students with a secure foundation on which to build a successful career. As with all LSC activities our intention is to ensure that individual students progress into all areas of the performing arts. Specifically, the Foundation Course is intended to provide a thorough preparation for students to successfully complete an undergraduate programme.

Mock audition classes and an end of year showcase performance opportunity will help students prepare constructively for the next stage of their training.

In this way, the Foundation course enables students to take ownership of their own training to become versatile performers able to work in a wide range of genres and to have a realistic awareness of where the student’s professional future lies.

MA DANCE PERFORMANCE This one-year (12-month)* postgraduate programme of study leads to a Masters degree that provides for the development of specialist skills in classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz dance or musical theatre.

The programme is aimed at dance graduates who would benefit a further year of specialist education and study to develop and refine technique, gain a greater understanding of performance, and develop research and analytical skills. Applicants must demonstrate the skills and aptitudes necessary to work in a 'professional' context, as the course aims to provide aspirant performers with relevant experience and a portfolio of performance work, so that on graduation they can audition successfully for professional companies.

Students join one of LSC’s four performing companies Images Ballet Company, INTOTO Dance, Jazz Co. or Seedtime (musical theatre company), working with industry professionals to create a full-length production that is performed at major London venues and across the UK. Each company is engaged with established professionals in its chosen field as well emerging new talent, furnishing students with invaluable connections as they progress into their professional careers. It acts as a bridge to a professional future. The programme is designed to help students explore and inform themselves about performance opportunities and shape their own professional futures. The programme will offer a nuanced and contextualised understanding of the dynamics that shape career development for graduates, whether as independent dance artists or as employees within a company structure.

The theoretical components culminate in an independent research project born out of a creative and critical enquiry that will require independent research supported by a seminar programme and individual tutorials.

MA DANCE PRODUCING AND MANAGEMENT Developed with leading industry partners, this innovative postgraduate qualiďŹ cation validated

by Middlesex University nurtures business, ďŹ nance, marketing and creative producing skills.

Industry placements, projects and sessions taught by professionals working in all areas of the performing arts enable students to hone the necessary knowledge and skills to develop artistic concepts into performance. The programme is designed for those seeking to transition in their career and bring their experience as artists to producing and management.

Recent guest speakers include: Cassa Pancho MBE (Founder of Ballet Black) Lauren Clancy (Executive Director Bush Theatre) Emma Southworth (Creative Producer The Royal Ballet)

The demand for dance producers in the industry has never been greater. London Studio Centre is addressing an urgent need to train skilled dance producers, who can work as a catalyst to create new opportunities and respond to growing artistic ambition in the performing arts industry. I look forward to a close collaboration on this much needed and exciting MA programme, mentoring these students through workshops, projects and placements.

LONDON STUDIO CENTRE DIPLOMA

ONE YEAR PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA

London Studio Centre's Diploma is a broadly based full-time dance training, which also supports specialisation and celebrates the breadth and diversity of professional opportunities that now exist in the industry. The curriculum is structured to run in parallel with the degree programme, with Diploma students enjoying the same opportunities to study with professional directors and choreographers in the creation and presentation of new work in professional venues.

This 'post-graduate' course provides an apprentice performance year for students who have completed their training elsewhere. It is possible to specialise in classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz theatre dance or musical theatre. Applicants must demonstrate the skills and aptitudes necessary to work in a 'professional' context, as the course aims to provide aspirant performers with relevant experience and a portfolio of performance work, so that on graduation they can audition successfully for professional companies.

The weekly programme of this demanding course provides professional training, regular performance opportunities, rehearsals and professional development.

This intensive one year course provides a demanding year of training. The training focuses on strengthening the relevant genre which leads onto an intensive rehearsal period and company tour towards the latter end of the academic year.

(jazz dance) • Seedtime (musical theatre) They tour to professional venues across the UK, performing newly commissioned work and repertoire created by internationally renowned professional choreographers and directors. LIVE AUDITIONS

The audition is run on one day in two stages with applicants auditioning for one of four specialist pathways. The audition which takes the form of an assessment in three technique classes; ballet, contemporary dance, and jazz dance. Singing is required for candidates auditioning for the musical theatre pathway and optional for all other pathways at this stage of the audition process.

In the afternoon applicants may be taken through to a second stage. They will present a solo based on their chosen pathway and attend an interview and physical assessment.

The audition panel then submit their recommendations to the Admissions Review Board following the auditions.

Initial outcomes are notified via email, with formal letters of offer being sent by post.

FUNDING & SCHOLARSHIPS Tuition Fees These can be found on LSC’s Website, along with greater detail about financial support available both internally and externally to LSC. As a conservatoire with a professional focus and significantly higher contact hours than a normal university programme, LSC fees are naturally higher. As an approved and registered Higher Education Provider with the Office for Students, London Studio Centre students are able to obtain Student Finance for maintenance costs and to fund part of their tuition fees. As LSC charges a higher fee than the tuition fee cap there is a limit by Government to the tuition fee loan available for LSC students.

Students studying for a postgraduate qualification may be able to apply for a Postgraduate Master’s loan. More information on Postgraduate Loans can be found at the link here.

Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) LSC successfully holds a Gold TEF award, this means students studying at LSC are able to apply for the highest amount of Tuition Fee Loan for an approved provider (£6,165).

UNDERGRADUATE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The following list sets out the support available to different groups of students. Please note many students fund their funds with a combination of different funding sources –both loans/scholarships.

TUITION FEE LOAN

WIDENING PARTICIPATION FUND

UK Students can obtain a Tuition Fee Loan from Student Finance which will contribute towards their tuition fees. The amount available for students in 2020/21 is £6,165. Tuition fee loans are paid directly to LSC on the student's behalf in three instalments throughout the academic year.

LSC is committed to diversifying its student population, ensuring all applicants have the opportunity to study. The Widening Participation Fund awards significant tuition fee bursaries to students from under-represented areas that require additional financial support to enable them to embark on a professional training programme.

STUDENT MAINTENANCE LOAN

The Student Maintenance Loan is aimed at helping with living costs; which enables students to support themselves whilst studying and attracts a very low interest rate. Maintenance Loans are means tested, if household income is £25,000 or less, the student will normally receive the highest loan. The maximum amount for a student living away from home in London in September 2020 is £12,010.

LONDON STUDIO CENTRE TUITION FEE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

LSC’s Tuition Fee scholarship fund is approximately £300k per annum, supporting a large number of students. The Scholarship works on a sliding scale with the maximum amount of £3,000 being awarded to students from lower-income backgrounds. Those students receiving the highest possible maintenance support from Student Finance will be awarded a £3,000 Tuition Fee Scholarship which will be deducted directly from the student’s tuition fee account.

LSC LEGACY SCHOLARSHIPS

London Studio Centre is thrilled to announce the introduction of LSC’s Legacy Scholarships; initially the Teneisha Bonner Scholarship and the Bridget Espinosa Scholarship. The commencement of these scholarships further LSC’s widening participation commitment to support talented individuals the ability to train at conservatoire level. LSC’s Legacy Scholarships are a collection of scholarships named after key figures influential in the establishment and continued support of London Studio Centre during its history. The scholarships will be awarded annually and will provide the recipient with full tuition fee support for their three years of study.

THE WALL TRUST SCHOLARSHIPS

LSC has a long standing relationship with the Wall Trust, who have provided financial support for many students who have successfully transitioned into professional performing careers. These Scholarships are awarded to exceptionally talented musical theatre students recommended to the Trust by LSC. A formal audition with members of the trust normally takes place in the autumn term, once students have begun their course. Criteria for nomination is talent and financial need. The award would be a contribution towards the student’s tuition fees.

LEVERHULME TRUST ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

Leverhulme Arts Scholarships are for specialist arts institutions providing opportunities in the fine and performing arts. LSC is able to offer second and third year students these scholarships to help contribute to its Mission of enabling students to become innovative and skilled performers regardless of background. Criteria is talent and financial need.

PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

Many of our students may decide to rent privately and share a flat or house with other students.

Finding the right accommodation is of vital importance for any student. An extensive list of accommodation options within easy travelling distance of London Studio Centre will be sent to all successful applicants.

London Studio Centre is ideally located to easily find a range of rental accommodation. There is an abundance of estate agents in the immediate proximity which offer a great selection of suitable housing within a few minutes’ walk or a short bus ride from LSC. This enables students to live in an affordable residential area within easy reach to our facilities, as well as being only 25 minutes from central London; leaving students well-placed to visit all that London has to offer!

Although it is the responsibility of students and parents/guardians to find their own accommodation, we provide assistance both initially and throughout students’ time on the course. LSC also set-up a dedicated Freshers social media groups for students to join prior to entry; offering them the chance to meet with new/current students who are also navigating the accommodation choices.

CHESTER HOUSE We have a long-standing relationship with Chester House in Muswell Hill, just a short 20-minute bus ride from LSC. Muswell Hill is a fantastic place to live and is rated highly in London guides due to its family friendly atmosphere and beauty.

Chester House provides fully furnished rooms and catering as well providing students with excellent facilities, which include: a gym, a dance studio, two practice rooms (one with a piano), a garden with an on-site tennis court, a quiet study room, a games room and movie room which hosts regular film nights.
