Please register for all classes, leagues, and special events through the Parks and Recreation Office unless otherwise indicated.

Please attend the programs you have registered for unless otherwise notified.

No registrations are taken over the phone or without full payment.

We only accept cash or checks. Please make check payable to the City of Harlingen.

The City of Harlingen Parks and Recreation Department may take photos of participants enrolled in all programs. Please be aware that these photos are for department use only and may be used in future brochures or fliers.

Class Registration • Register for classes at the Parks and Recreation Desk located at 502 E. Tyler from 8:00am-5:00pm • Pay with cash or check made out to City of Harlingen.

• Money will be refunded if the class is cancelled due to insufficient numbers.

Yoga in the Park

Ninjutsu (Martial Arts)

Yoga is a form of moving meditation that enhances physical capabilities and sharpens mental abilities. It challenges the mind to be quiet while bringing focus and strength to your practice and your life.

“Rough Boy Ninjutsu” focuses on delivering the fastest way to learn Ninjutsu, while building your confidence. Ninjutsu is more than just a martial art: it is exercise, a weight loss plan, and one great adrenaline boost of energy. At the end of the class you will not only go home with a great workout, but with skills that may, one day, save your life.

Students can wear jogging pants or shorts with a t-shirt.

All levels Vinyasa: This class consists of a series of traditional yoga strengthening and stretching asanas (postures) linked with the movement of the breath. This class has a higher level of movement and synchronization as well as pranayama (breathing exercises). Participants need to bring a mat and a blanket, and wear comfortable clothes.

Zumba Forget the workout, just lose yourself in the music and find yourself in shape at the original dance-fitness party. Zumba® classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats.

Before you know it, you’ll be getting fit and your energy levels will be soaring! It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating. Please bring a yoga mat and 1-2 pound weights for some extra floor work.

Arts and Crafts for Veterans Want to enjoy a new hobby while socializing with fellow Veterans?

This class allows you to try out different forms of art at your own pace in a comfortable environment.. Projects include painting, mosaic, quilling, wood burning, holiday crafts, wood staining and more.

Cumbia Dance Lessons

If you feel dancing is just too hard, then Tejano is for you. This fun class includes learning very basic foot-work to medium and advanced dance steps in both Polka and Cumbia beats. If you can walk, then you are halfway there. No partner required, but highly recommended.

Cumbia has a characteristic heartbeat rhythm that you’ll know if you ever heard it, and is a great tool to start learning any Latin American dance style. Come and learn how to do basic to advanced dance steps in CUMBIA.

Texas Two-step Come and see how easy it is to learn the Texas Two-Step! Instruction is well paced and includes the learning of proper dance etiquette, correct footwork, turning as a couple, and the very popular WHIP turn. No partner required, but highly recommended.

Tai Chi Tai Chi literally translates to “supreme ultimate fist”. Tai chi is known for its slow moving attributes, but little do people know that if done correctly Tai Chi is a great work out as well as a self defense system.

This gentle form of exercise is also said to prevent or ease many ills of aging and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life.

Beginning & Intermediate Ballet, Tap & Jazz

Baby Combo (Ballet & Tap)

In this class students will start to become familiar with the terminology and techniques for Ballet, Tap, and Jazz Dance. Along with these skills, students will gain the strength, coordination, and confidence that come with these disciplined dances.

Bring your little ones to learn the basics of Tap Dance and Ballet.

They will receive a full hour of instruction on creative movement to a number of fun songs. Along with starting the foundation of dance, Lorri will help your child increase coordination and spatial awareness.

Tony Butler Golf Course is a twenty-seven hole course complete with driving range, putting and chipping greens, snack bar and Pro Shop. The 18-hole course is a championship layout measuring 6,400 yards, par 71. The 9-hole course is a shorter course measuring 2,600 yards, par 35. Continuous paved cart paths have been installed on all 27 holes.

Youth Service Department 2015 Spring Calendar

The trail at Pendleton Park has been named the Harlingen Hometown Heroes Trail and handicap accessible exercise equipment has been placed by the tennis courts.

Story Times Toddler Tales January 6th - March 31st 10:30 - 11:15 a.m.

• Children ages 4 and under are invited to attend story time with are parent or caregiver. Hear stories, learn songs, and make a fun craft together Character Wednesday Every Wednesday 4:15 - 5:15 p.m.

• Children of all ages are invited to join us as we read stories, make a craft, and see a puppet show based on our Character of the week.

Over at Rangerville Park the playground is getting brand new surfacing with artificial turf. Say good-bye to the puddles from rain and wood chips in shoes. This surface will drain better, be more durable, and is easier to maintain.

Harlingen Parks & Recreation is getting ready to join the hunt. With an estimated 30 new caches to find, you will enjoy getting to know Harlingen that much better. Find just one or try to find enough to win a prize from the Parks & Recreation Department. Keep posted for more information.
