Mental health is a pervasive issue which ails everyone. No one is immune to its
impacts, as inconspicuous as they could be, and it is plain to see that there is a
need to combat the plight that is mental illness. In recent years, there have been
an increasing number of initiatives to promote understanding of mental health,
yet statistics show that mental health issues of Hong Kong are not improving.
“There is no health without mental health.” This is often emphasised by the
WHO, and parroted by the Hong Kong government. That being said, many
question the effectiveness of the efforts headed by the government to the end
of promoting mental health in Hong Kong.
With that in mind, Chi-zine’s goal is to gather and retell Hong Kong centric
mental health experiences and investigate the underlying problems of the
mental healthcare system, in an effort to find possible outs that we have in this
dire situation.
