COUNSELOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Meets with students and families. • Offers counsel and advice through the university decision-making process. • Help students develop a balanced and realistic list of universities. • Writes letters of recommendation. • Sends requested documents to universities ((e.g., LCS recommendations, LCS profile, and transcripts, predicted grades mid and final year reports). • Advises on the personal statement and essay writing. • Informs students about the appropriate test dates and deadlines. • Helps students interpret PSAT and SAT test scores. • Coordinates visits by university representatives. • Acts as an advocate for the student to universities. • Provides information about most appropriate course selections. • Wherever possible, stays up-to-date with changes in entry to higher education around the world. • Provides assistance to LCS faculty and staff with writing letters of recommendation. • Shares scholarship and financial aid information where applicable. • Offers a variety of workshops or information sessions for students and parents. • Offers information evenings for students and parents.

PARENTAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Meets with the Counselor to discuss plans and confirm the final application list. • Actively partners with their child in exploring university options and possibilities to ensure an appropriate"best fit" universities are chosen. • Reads LCS email messages, links and LCS Facebook Group announcements. Discusses plans and any financial restrictions openly and honestly with their child early in the process and share these with the counselor. • Encouraged to visit university campuses. • Reminds child of upcoming LCS internal deadlines for the application process. • Supports their child through the application process but does not write the or edit any portion of the college essay or personal statement. • Helps to send official test scores to the universities. The counseling office is not allowed to do this. • Finds other things to talk about besides the college application process during 11th and 12th grade. • Enjoy the remaining time you have together!
