SATURDAY 30 JULY | prideinliverpool.co.uk

Pride is a celebration of our diversity, a festival of tolerance and inclusivity, and a perfect encapsulation of the values that make the Liverpool City Region great. Just as importantly, though, it is a protest too. I have supportedLCR Pride Foundation throughout my time as Mayor and am delighted to be able to sponsor it again this year. It’s fantastic to have an in-person march again!

With Pride, Andi Herring, CEO, LCR Pride Foundation

When we set up the LCR Pride Foundation in 2019 our mission was to take the meaning and power of the one-day-per-year Pride event and extend it through the other 364 days in the year, as well as further across the region.

It is as vital as ever that we Come Together as a community. We need to stick together as one LGBT+ family and stand up against division, intolerance and the removal of our rights which is not only still going on today globally, but right here in the UK too.

Hello to all,

Turning our programme into a digital one was both scary and an exciting challenge. We knew our community was becoming more and more isolated as lockdowns went on and that we needed to find ways to connect and bring us all together. We did this in many ways - through film, taking our annual march online and funding grassroots organisations to continue their work in difficult times. You’ll find more information about our 2020 and 2021 work later in this Finally,brochure.hereweare.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a devastating time for many people and we know that its impact is felt more acutely by minority and marginalised groups, and this will be for years to come. That’s why, during the pandemic, we have been proud and even more determined to continue our work.

After three long years’ wait we are pleased to be able to present the annual March with Pride and Pride in Liverpool festival and finally come together again.

In 2022 - the year that we can all ‘Come Together’ again - which is exactly why we have chosen this as our annual theme. To make this happen, we’ve had to negotiate the impact of COVID-19 on our teams, suppliers and volunteers, Pride in Liverpool has had to make the move to Pier Head for the day and we’re taking a little bit of a detour for our annual March with Pride - but the reason we do it stays the same...

Although we were unable to deliver Pride in Liverpool physically in 2020 and 2021, with the help of our sponsors and donors we set out to ensure we remained true to our mission.

The 3.7 tonne container, which is one of several painted in the colours of the Pride flag, has been touring the world since 2020 as a symbol of equality, inclusion and diversity and to raise awareness of issues faced by the LGBT+ community.

Global integrated logistics company A.P. Moller – Maersk marked its second year supporting Pride in Liverpool as a Festival Supporter, by making the city the first public stop on its 2022 Pride Month rainbow container roadshow.

Gary Jeffreys, Maersk UKI Managing Director, said: “Maersk’s rainbow containers serve as a symbol of equality, inclusion and diversity –boldly sharing with the world our stand on creating a culture where all employees, partners, and customers feel welcome and can be themselves without judgement.

We are committed to building and nurturing an inclusive culture at Maersk and are immensely proud of our diverse workforce who ship these very containers and integrate the world on a daily basis. This will continue to be a global priority for us beyond this year’s Pride Month, as we’ll be spreading awareness and impor tant messaging inside and outside of our organisation all year round.

PAGE 8 action#COMETOGETHERandbe heard on issues such as hate crime against LGBT+ people, the exclusion of Trans and Non-Binary people from the proposed conversion therapy ban and continued discrimination against the LGBT+ community.

“Since the start of the pandemic, we have supported the re-establishment of the city’s Pride Quarter, the launch of new CMAGIC services improving Trans, Non-Binary and Intersex healthcare, artistic responses and intervention alongside Homotopia and Culture Liverpool to address hate crime targeting the LGBT+ community. We also continue to see projects funded from our community fund deliver real, lasting change for the LGBT+ community in the city region.

“By coming together now, we can forge a path forward that will allow LGBT+ people to live their authentic lives visibly, safely and happily in our region.”

PAGE LCRPRIDE.CO.UK9

As part of the “Come Together” campaign, the foundation is continuing to provide a platform for LGBT+ news, interviews and events through its newsdesk and weekly newsletter.

It will also continue to grow its “You’re Safe Here” training programme and deliver further community consultations, like those launched in Halton and Sefton, to ascertain the wants and needs of the community across the six boroughs.

Andi Herring, CEO and Co-Founder of LCR Pride Foundation, said: “This year will allow us to ‘come together’ as a community, to consolidate all of the work that has been done in the region over the past two years, in the face of great adversity.

PAGE 10 In 2020, our theme asked us to consider what matters to us, self-care and our mental health and doing the things that we love that make us feel part of the wider community. We made our annual march virtual, with the ‘MarchONline’ reaching over 2 million people and we were able to provide vital support to grassroots organisations by launching our LCR Pride Foundation Community Fund. •MarchONline Reached more than 2 million people • 50+ organisations from all sectors took part • Hundreds of individual submissions! Community Fund • £20,000 funding diverted into community grassroots activity • Funded three locally-produced short films • Funded four sports and physical activity projects • Funded nine Community projects and initiatives Film With Pride Online Programme • Screened more than 30 short films • Over 2,000 submissions from around the world to take part in the programme • Official partner of the IRIS Prize #COMETOGETHER

LCRPRIDE.CO.UK In early 2021 there was hope that physical events may return, but as the months moved on it was clear that here in the UK free, mass-person events would remain on hold for a little longer. Our theme of ‘From Now On’ took on even greater meaning. It started conversations about what we’d like to change and how we’d like things to be post-pandemic. It was a pledge that all of us could make, individuals or businesses, to make one change that would make a difference to the community. We once again focused on what we could do to support - continuing our digital connections through newsletters and social media, our second MarchONline and strengthening our partnerships across the Liverpool City Region. Digital Programme • More than 2,000 subscribers to our weekly newsletter • Reaching 45,000+ people through social media Proud to have supported: • Liverpool TDOV • CMAGIC • Liverpool Loves You What will you change?

You are researching other issues alongside violence, why is this important?

“Our team is made up of 13 peer researchers aged 16-21 and we are from all across Merseyside, which means we each have a shared understanding of Merseyside as a whole, while maintaining unique insight into our individual communities and how they may have similarities or differences to other areas.

PAGE LCRPRIDE.CO.UK23

If you’d like to be part of making Merseyside a fairer and safer place for young people you can get involved by participating in research or becoming a changemaker.

Can you tell us a bit more about the team and PAC’s work?

What are you doing differently from others researching this area?

We are currently in the process of conducting our research, and this is being done predominantly through one-to-one interviews as well as focus groups in settings like schools and youth groups to help us reach as many young people as possible and to be accessible to different groups of young people.”

Deadline for interviews: 1st September 2022 Merseyside PeerAction Collective (PAC)

Find upandmoreoutsignhere:

As a team we were struck by the lack of research completed relating to Merseyside, and we wanted to explore how youth violence impacts our local communities by amplifying the voice of young people living in those communities.

“Collectively we feel that youth violence is a subject that is predominantly discussed through statistics, in a way which presents it as detached aged 10-20, with the aim of reducing youth violence. entirely from any other issues. We agreed that in order to fully understand the issue of youth violence, we needed to also explore the potential root causes which we could only do by speaking to young people directly about their lived experiences

“We feel it is crucial to understand the wider social context of the topic of youth violence, and so we have been equally keen to explore issues such as mental health and poverty, as well as LGBTQ+ and minority identities to form a realistic picture of youth violence and what fuels it.”

St Helens Pride returned on Saturday 2nd July, following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

The day’s activities kicked off with the ‘Walk With Pride’, where hundreds came together to walk through the town centre in celebration and support of the LGBT+ community.

The walk was joined by Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner, Emily Spurrell, who said the event sent “a clear message that our region is no place for hate.”

An afternoon of music, dance, interactive workshops and exhibitions followed in St Helens Town Centre and The World of Glass. There was a host of community stalls to browse, family-friendly activities at St Helens Library and pavement art and face-painting for younger attendees (and the young-at-heart).

Halton is set to celebrate its first-ever Pride festival on August 13th and 14th, with a host of diverse and family-friendly activities at Halton Castle.

Halton Castle | Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th August 2022 DJs, art activities, kids’ entertainment and a candlelit vigil are all expected to take place across three independent areas set amongst the grounds of the castle.

The event will be supported by The Studio in Widnes, GLOW LGBTQ youth group, Halton Veterans and The Castle.

Lead event organiser, Hayley Smith, from North West HIV Support said: “This year marks 50 years since the first Pride rally in the UK. What better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pride than with the first ever Pride in Halton, an event the borough truly deserves.”

Tickets cost £8 and all proceeds from the 2022 event will be used to grow the event for 2023 and allow for the introduction of other community-focused Pride initiatives throughout the year.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the event, one of the event’s community organisers, Jamie Lee Carter, said: “Here on the Wirral we have a massive and close LGBT+ community but there has never been a Pride or anything to celebrate it. Myself and others thought it was about time that changed.

“Most of all, we want our beautiful LGBT+ community out in force. This event is for you to celebrate who you are, so please save the date, follow us on socials and come along on the 27th of August!!”

The march route will work its way from St George’s Plateau through our beautiful city centre, ending at the Pride in Liverpool festival site at Pier Head on Liverpool’s stunning and historic waterfront. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration of equality, diversity and inclusion, alongside friends, family, supporters and other allies. We’re really proud to remain a march, only permitting walking groups. The march is made up of large organisations, national and local charities, community groups alongside thousands of individuals – there is no minimum requirement for participant numbers and you can just turn-up and take part. We welcome banners and placards - the more colourful the better - and we ask you to bring your voices and your enthusiasm!

For more information: lcrpride.co.uk/march/ St George’s Plateau, Saturday 30th July Muster from 10:30am, march from 12noon

Every32 year our Pride march grows, both in size and passion, but the act of coming together and making our voices heard has never been more vital. This year marks 50 years since the UK’s first Pride rally - a protest to fight for equality and inclusivity. Progress has been made, but that fight still continues today, as we see the rights of LGBT+ people being attacked and rolled back, most significantly those of the Trans, Non-Binary and Intersex communities.

March with Pride is an opportunity to show the city a united front, where thousands of people join together in solidarity and support, celebrating the LGBT+ community and its culture and marching against prejudice, injustice and hate faced by our community here and around the world.
