SOLACE OF COHESION This public library in Oakland is designed to suit the needs of the many different types of people that occupy a public space, ranging from the homeless to students to professionals. It is meant to provide a private place for every person to go about their business so the space graduates from public to private as it rises. The form of this structure was derived from carving a cast which was then translated to a digital model using Grasshopper and boolean techniques. The concept was originally meant to be accessed as private-to-public spaces but upon formal investigation, public-to-private was much more conducive to the program of a library.

This siteless, futuristic apartment complex focused on fully sustainable, self-contained pods that would plug into a home structure with other units, thus providing a sense of community and, ideally, greater efficiency through combined systems. The exposed systems force inhabitants to keep in mind where their consumption is going and coming, even as the units are connected and the utilities travel beyond their singular unit.

This mixed-use complex replaces the Westside Pavilion in Los Angeles.

It was an exploration of rectilinear geometry juxtaposed with curvilinear shapes and the hollowed-out spaces that those create. Careful program placement was employed to provided public foot traffic to retail spaces, Equinox Hotel, and WeWork, while privacy was created for residents and Google. Mixed income housing types are identified by “block” types which create mini-communities that are then interspersed throughout the site to help encourage interaction, and provide large numbers of much needed housing in LA. There was much exploration in various facade possibilities and then further development into how that screen and glass system might work.

This was displayed as textures within the physical model.

This project was for the low-budget remodel of a small conference room in an office building in Oakland. The client had specific instructions that pre-existing pillows be incorporated in the design.

I proposed new lighting, a fresh color scheme and new built-in seating to accommodate the pillows.

The addition of more chairs, rugs, and plant life all added to a more comfortable environment.

I am choosing to work mainly with the muted colors and tribal patterns in this pillow type.

Plan My Final Plan is create a smaller more manageable meeting area while also providing comfortable seating in the form of built in seating meant to make use of the existing pillows, as well as the addition of new comfy chairs.

These are various examples of fabricated designs ranging from large scale livable projects, to furniture, to games. These always provide fun challenges in the building process from designing buildably to construction complications.
