ALL students will be transitioning to Google Chromebooks this fall. Students will receive their Chromebooks during Crusader Periods.

Junior class deployment will begin the week of 10/1 and Senior class will begin during the week of 10/22.

Students must turn in their school issued iPad during their scheduled time to receive a Chromebook, or choose to buy the iPad “As-Is� for $25.

Student turning in their iPad must include the iPad, case, charger, and cord. Any student choosing to purchase their iPad must present a check made payable to LCHS on the day of transition.

NO CASH will be accepted.

Only school issued devices (Chromebooks) can be used in the classroom.

What can you accomplish in forty-eight hours?

Read a book, do chores. . .the options are endless! But would you think of writing an award winning composition complete with lyrics?

Most of us would say no but that is exactly what Lancaster Catholic’s Lizbeth Stephan, Class of 2021, did when she composed and recorded her original song, “Provider of Joy” on the piano with classmate Cody McSherry on vocals for the Catholic Daughters of America National Education Contest.

Lizbeth was not sure if she was going to compete in the Catholic Daughters of America competition for 2018 because she faced the adjustment of being a Freshman, trying to balance homework and other obligations. But once her mind was set, she was determined to submit a piece of music to the contest.

“Sometimes it is hard to write music,” said Lizbeth. “Once you find a flow, the music just comes to you.”

“Provider of Joy” took less than two days to complete and won Lizbeth 1st place in the Music Category for Division 3 Catholic Daughter of America Chapters for Lancaster County, 1st place for the State of Pennsylvania and 2nd place Nationally!

Seven students from LCHS with the Lancaster Chamber Women in Business for their first field trip to PA College of Health Sciences on Friday, September 28th.

Members of the 2018 State Champion Baseball team were honored at the Capitol building in Harrisburg on Wednesday, October 3rd.

Breakfast with Santa Request In about two months we will be having our annual Breakfast with Santa for the little kids which supports the Fine and Performing Arts here at LCHS.

Catholic College Fair Lancaster Catholic Juniors and Seniors visited the Old Gym today to talk to representatives during the Catholic College Fair.

This year we are asking for donations of Christmas wrapping paper. Donations can be dropped off in the Good Samaritan Office.

Please bring them by mid October/ early November. Thank you!

Breakfast with Santa This year Breakfast with Santa will take place on Saturday, December 8th from 8:30-10:30 in the morning.

Christmas festivities will begin at 9 AM.

Crusader Legacy Golf Classic On September 24th, Catholic High was able to raise over $50,000 through the Crusader Legacy Golf Classic for student scholarships.

Attention Class of 2020 students with an interest in health care careers: Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) is currently accepting applicants for the 2019 Winter Student Program. The program allows students to experience first-hand the day-to-day activities in a professional healthcare setting.

The students are given the opportunity to work side by side with LGH clinical staff members who will mentor them throughout the program.

Upon completion of the program (50 hours) the student is eligible for a $500 scholarship to the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences for a major clinical program.

Applications will be accepted from September 21st to October 5th.

If students would like to apply for the high school program, they should log onto www.LancasterGeneralHealth.org to obtain instructions and download the application from the student volunteer page.

Lancaster Catholic’s Homecoming Court is composed of eleven senior ladies who were voted onto the Court by their fellow senior classmates. Homecoming Information The theme for the dance is “Around the World.”

Tickets are now on sale during lunches until Oct. 11th. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Lancaster Catholic Homecoming Dance The LCHS Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 13th. In the interest of student safety, please be advised that Catholic High will be administering random breathalyzer tests to students as they enter the dance. Any bags brought into the dance will be kept in a secure and locked area and are also subject to search.

Dance begins at 7:00PM and ends at 10:00PM. No student will be admitted after 9:00. Any student wishing to leave before the end of the dance may sign out, and will NOT be re-admitted.

Dance Attire Ladies are expected to dress in a manner appropriate for the occasion, and reflective of the modesty expected of Christian women. Specifically listed below are dresses that are NOT acceptable. o No exposed tattoos o No appearance of exposed flesh (nude or mesh material) in inappropriate areas o No plunging backs, necklines, or overexposed backs o Length of dress must meet the fingertips o No excessive cleavage o No bare mid-drifts (no two-piece dresses) Men are expected to dress in a manner appropriate for the occasion.

Seniors to Washington, DC As an extension of their literature study, seniors from Lancaster Catholic will be spending the day in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, October 10th.

One group will begin at the Holocaust Museum and move on to Arlington National Cemetery for the afternoon. Students that studied literature from several wars will tour the Smithsonian Museum of American History, visit the Vietnam War Memorial, and end at the cemetery.

We pray that this day will prove a moving and memorable experience for all.

Freshman Retreat The Freshman retreat will take place on Wednesday, October 10th and is designed to welcome our new class to the LCHS family and to begin to build class unity and is held in the fall on a regular school day.

The day starts with Mass. Students will work on team building activities, and discuss why it’s important to be an active part of the school.

They are challenged to explore and grow in their faith and begin to learn that the purpose of their education is to serve God and help proclaim the Gospel with their lives.

Important Details: - Students are allowed to Dress Down as long as they follow the Dress Code Guidelines laid out in the Handbook.

- Students NEED to bring their own lunch to the retreat.

NO Food will be served in the lunch lines.

- You do not need a permission slip, this is a regular school day for you 8am to 2:55 PM.

A few tips about the upcoming PSAT on Wednesday, October 10th • While many juniors may have taken the test last year, students can only qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition during junior year.

• It’s tempting to allow your students to take the day off, but this test is a great preparation for college admission testing and additional targeted areas of practice through Khan Academy.

• For test day, make sure your student has at least 2 pencils (non- mechanical) and a calculator with fresh batteries.

• Get a good night’s sleep the night before testing and eat a good breakfast before the test.

• This is a national test, students who take this test must listen carefully to their room proctors as no student will be permitted to go back to previous sections and change answers or use their cell phones during the exam period.

Room assignments will be posted in the hallways directing students to specific rooms.

- Students taking the PSAT are required to be in proper Lancaster Catholic uniform.

Dig Pink The LCHS girls volleyball team is hosting a Dig Pink game, October 9th to raise funds for the Side Out Foundation, an organization that raises funds and awareness for breast cancer.

The October 9th game will be a PINK OUT, we are asking all fans to wear pink to the game.

In addition, we will have a bake sale to raise money for the Side-Out Foundation. Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our team will also wear our Dig Pink uniforms October 4th and 17th (home games) to raise awareness. Baked goods will also be available during those home games. If you wish to donate to the SideOut Foundation, click here.

If you are a parent of a Crusader Athlete, remember that a minimum of 10 hours of service to the Athletic Department is required to help off-set costs of hosting sporting events.

By volunteering, the Athletic Department does not need to pay someone to be a clock keeper, sell tickets or work concessions.

On Sunday, December 9, 2018, we will depart Lancaster Catholic High School at 7 a.m. sharp!

We will be dropped off at the rear of the Winter Garden Theater which is a prime location to enjoy shopping, the theater district, the museums, and Time Square. NYC will be abuzz with Christmas decorations and good cheer.

Bus picks up at the same location at 7 p.m. for an approximate return to Lancaster Catholic High School at 10 p.m.

The Campus Ministry Department is looking for adult volunteers to help with the I Am Youth Rally!

The rally is for Middle School aged students on Sunday, October 21st. The event begins at 11, but help is wanted from 8:00am – 6:00pm. You can volunteer on Sign-Up Genius.

Adult volunteers will be needed for check in, hospitality, and chaperoning.

Star Team Update: On behalf of the STAR Team, we wanted students and families to be aware of a new way to make a STAR referral if you are concerned about a student. We now have a electronic form that students or parents can complete right from our LCHS web page.

From the LCHS web page you can click the student or parent tab (at the top of the screen) and look on the right side drop down box for the STAR Form. The form has the option to make an anonymous referral if preferred.

The mission of the LCHS Student Assistance Program (STAR) is to identify, intervene, refer, and monitor students having school-related problems. These may be due to personal difficulties, mental health issues (anxiety, depression, etc.), or drug & alcohol concerns.

Resurrection Elementary Catholic School Open House

Resurrection Catholic School will host an open house October 18th featuring animals.

In recognition of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals whose feast day is in October, the public is invited to a 1 p.m. Zoo America assembly called “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tails” that will teach how animals survive in the wild – including foraging, eating, swimming, escaping from and defending against predators.

Alternatively, come in the evening, 6-7 p.m. , for Fun With Our Animal Friends to see kindergarten through 3 rd grade animal projects.

The school welcomes families considering Catholic school especially if kindergarten approaches for their child.

Resurrection strives to create a balance so children learn, socially interact and get what they need to prepare them for success in future grades.

“Anyone thinking about kindergarten for their children will want to see the fun and creative lessons our students engage in every day,” said Principal Brenda Weaver. “Our primary grade teachers and families will share their animal creations they imagine and design themselves.”
